Tiny House on Top of a Hill: SPECTACULAR VIEWS!
My place, a custom build from HGTV-featured tiny house builder Randy Jones, is on a ridge with unparalleled, 270-degree views of Grandfather Mountain, all three area ski resorts, and on in to Tennessee and Virginia's Mount Rogers. We're located 20 minutes from Boone and West Jefferson, and closer than that to the Blue Ridge Parkway and New River activities like fishing and tubing. If you've considered downsizing, or you just want to give living tiny a try for a getaway, this is the place!
Please note that the reviews for this tiny house before 2020 are from its old location just down the road in Todd, NC. HomeAway/VRBO required me to start a new listing due to the change in address, though I got to keep the reviews. It's the same great tiny house, now with VIEWS!
The tiny house is in a quiet spot on top of a hill with just four other properties (a second tiny house on wheels and two small, stick-built cabins). Alone, the tiny house is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with a kid or two), and dogs. You can rent the whole mountain top for events. Combined, the four properties can accommodate 16 people.
The tiny house features wifi, a smart TV, a stocked kitchen with a real range and fridge. The spacious bathroom is stocked with toiletries and linens. There is a sleeping loft accessed by steps, no ladder required, and two sofas that convert to beds. The space is cooled and heated efficiently by a mini-split heat pump. There are lots of windows to enjoy your surroundings as well as a deck with a custom bench and table made from reclaimed materials.
In the event of snowfall, four-wheel drive and experience driving in snow is an absolute must to go the last 1/2 mile or so to the house. If snow is forecast for your stay and you do not feel comfortable trying to access the property, you will be offered a full refund. However, if you're feeling adventurous, you could definitely hike the last bit or maybe even catch a ride on a side-by-side ATV.

We enjoyed our stay at Dave’s place. The property was very clean and the views were amazing! Dave was also very accommodating to adding a couple of nights on to our stay. We highly recommend this property and hope to stay again, the next time we are in the area.
This was a great little property to enjoy the mountains. Conveniently located close to multiple cities/towns, yet just far enough away to give you that secluded feeling. Hopefully I'll be back soon!
This tiny house was comfortable for my husband and me with all the comforts of a much larger space. We enjoyed the views and hearing the rain falling on the roof. We hope to return to stay here again soon!
The property is beautiful. The tiny house is the perfect getaway location. Boone is a short drive away with great restaurants. We will definitely go again.
Wonderful property. Beautiful view and lovely sunsets. Just great for 2 people to connect and relax. Looking forward to staying there again in the fall.
This was a wonderful place to stay for a weekend of hiking/visiting Boone. The tiny house was very clean, had a good amount of space for two people, and had a great porch with beautiful views. The check-in/check-out process was easy and we had clear communication and instructions from the host. We also had a chance for some good stargazing at night. All around great place to stay.
Such beautiful views and very quiet and relaxing stay on top of the mountain. Very beautiful majestic sunset!! And the sunrise too! Just us and the animals and the rest of nature. Totally awesome tiny house on a very nice piece of land on top of the mountain. A must stay!!
Great view! The location of this Tiny Home is excellent. Getting to it may be challenging for some once the paved road ends. Inside is compact, but efficiently built. Water pressure seemed to drop when other nearby units are occupied, but good otherwise. Thank you for the stay.
We stayed in this tiny home in the mountains for 2 nights. It was the perfect little getaway! It has everything one might need and the best views of the blue ridge mountains! Very quiet and relaxing. Not too far from Boone/Blowing Rock. Definitely good to have a truck but looks doable with a car when there is no snow. Highly recommend checking this place out!
Amazing place for a little getaway. No negative things to say at all. Very cute, very clean. Awesome views. Host contacted me a few times just to check in and always responded super quickly! If you need some time to yourself or with a partner to relax and reconnect I highly recommend staying here. Will be coming back! :)
This is a cozy tiny home just right for someone wanting to get away from the bustle of town and enjoy the sights of nature. The loft beds add a touch that most kids will be excited about. Adults, too, should be ready to climb up! But if you choose to stay on the lower level, the futon does make a comfortable bed.
Perfect views and space for two celebrating our 30th anniversary. The bed was surprisingly comfy and the crossbreezes through the small windows in the loft were lovely. We enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast at the outdoor picnic table watching the birds and bunnies and planning hikes for the day. We had everything we needed. Book it!!
The view is amazing! You do have to take a tiny mountainous gravel road to get there. It is one of 4 tiny houses on the overlook (and it has the best view!). The house is clean. It has everything you need. It’s great to sit out on the porch and look at the mountains. We visited Boone and Grandfather Mountain during our 2 day visit. Highly recommended.
My sister and I stayed at the tiny house and we absolutely loved it! The property was beautiful and flourishing with plants and wildlife. The house was clean and comfy. We slept with the windows open most nights and woke to birds chirping! It was like a fairytale. The tiny house was stocked with essentials and the host did an amazing job communicating and ensuring that we enjoyed ourselves. I’m so thankful we found this little spot and will definitely come back again one day!
I had been curious about seeing a Tiny House and this didnt disappoint. Everything we needed was included and well organized and the location felt remote yet was only a 20 min drive to Boone which is a lively town. The view was spectacular and the property was shared with only a couple of other rentals. I was also surprised to have decent cellular service as well as wi-fi available. I would definitely recommend.
This was our first time staying in a tiny house and it was adorable!!!!! We really enjoyed it and the views were amazing. I wasn't expecting other tiny houses to be around us but it was okay and everyone was very friendly.
If there is a wish list I wish there was a blow dryer because I forgot mine....lol other than that it had everything you could want or need. They did a great job!!!!!! We will definitely be back next year!!!
