The Otter Box Cabin is a beautiful cabin situated on the 92-acre retreat property known as Woodland Retreat at DeSoto. As its name implies, this cabin and retreat property offer guests a peaceful retreat and cool mountain getaway, deep in the woods and high atop Lookout Mountain in Alabama. This cabin also has an optional no-stairs entrance (4 ft+ ramp), 32” interior doors, and wide floor space in the bedrooms and in the living room. Explore waterfalls, parks, shops, and restaurants. Relax by the rock fire pit or on the front porch with a cup of coffee, and enjoy views through a canopy of trees. Wildlife is spotted frequently on the property, and beautiful hiking trails are walking distance as the backyard of the cabin is part of DeSoto State Park. Renew, refresh, and be restored!
**THE RETREAT PROPERTY** Not long after you turn onto the private road that winds through the retreat property, you will pass Coyote Cabin on your left (also listed). Soon after, you will see The Otter Box Cabin, also on the left, along with your own private parking area (2 cars max).
Beside your parking area at The Otter Box Cabin, there are stairs leading up to the cabin's entrance from the parking area as well as a no-stairs option with a wide ramp that leads to the front porch. You will appreciate the beautiful treehouse views from the covered porch area. This is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea in the morning and take in the views :)
Stepping inside the cabin, you will know your peaceful retreat has begun as you are surrounded by windows that reveal refreshing views through a canopy of trees. Be sure to look up and notice the beautiful wood ceiling that was built by the homeowners and upcycled from hurricane-weathered wood planks on Alabama's own coast in Baldwin County.
Moving into the main living area, you will appreciate the sight of a large comfortable sofa and loveseat. There is plenty of room for your family to enjoy this space and additional floorspace consideration for our guests who require a wheelchair. The sofa folds out to a queen bed when there are 6 guests. There is a gas log fireplace for your enjoyment, and for movie nights in, there is a 55" HD smart television in the living room with fast Wi-Fi for streaming your own favorite channel subscriptions. A DVD player is also available if you'd like to bring your favorite DVDs.
Directly next to the living room area is the dining area and kitchen. There is a smaller dining table to allow for wider floor space consideration, and there are 4 chairs, with additional chairs on the front porch. In the kitchen, there is a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, blender, cooking pots, can opener, pans and utensils, dishes, drinking glasses, eating utensils, cooking spices, coffee mugs, and more.
Both of the bedrooms have 32-inch doorways, wider floor space and beautiful window views into the wooded backyard. Each bedroom has a closet with a dresser inside to accommodate more floor space in the bedroom. In each bedroom, there is a queen bed and with comfortable bedding for your rest and relaxation.
A full bathroom, also with a 32-inch doorway, includes a full tub/shower combo with a hand-held shower option.
Directly across the hall from the bathroom, there is a full laundry room with a washer and dryer available for your convenience, as well as a fold-out ironing board with iron. You will also find extra quilts, a portable fan and a sofa-bedding kit.
Back outside and near the cabin, you will notice a river rock fire pit designed with your retreat in mind. You are welcomed to use any small pieces of fallen wood that can safely fit inside the fire pit, and firewood bundles are sold at nearby stores. Please only burn firewood, as the homeowners and guests roast food over this fire pit. Extendable roasters are located in a kitchen drawer for your convenience, so be sure to bring ingredients for s'more memories.
Near the fire pit is your Charcoal/wood-burning Campground-Style BBQ Grill with a metal bucket and lid to collect BBQ grill ashes :)

Everything was as we expected and then some. The cabin was very nice and the location was very quiet but still close to anything we were looking to do. The management group was very responsive.
My mom and I needed a place for a week and we chose the best!!! Beautiful home! Very clean plenty of room! I would recommend to everyone! Very quiet!

Peaceful and relaxing cabin in the woods
We enjoyed staying at Otter Box cabin for the long Labor Day weekend. This cabin is close to grocery, restaurants and outdoor adventures near Desoto State Park. We travel with our dogs and they loved the porch sitting and being able to get them out for walk up the hill and back to cabin was very nice. Thank you for your great hospitality and we will for sure be back.

Wonderful Place
This place was perfect, clean, stocked and ready to go. We had a nice little thing of treats waiting for us when we got there, which was so nice. The place was very peaceful (minus the acorns hitting the roof 😉). Very close to Desoto State Park and not far from the falls. Will definitely consider going back.

Peaceful
The Otter Box cabin was the perfect getaway for us to relax and unwind. The cabin was immaculate and so comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch listening to the birds and the wind in the trees. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Misti was so helpful from making reservations to suggesting local events and activities. We had a great time.

Amazing
We really enjoyed our stay. Cabin was exactly as they described. The beds were very comfortable and the cabin was very clean. We have a daughter in a wheelchair so we loved the wide door ways and the ramp. We had no issues at all getting her in and her being able to move around in the cabin. It was so peaceful and quiet, we will definitely be back. Misti was an excellent host and available if needed. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay.
We were looking for an alternative to a hotel when we were directed to these cabins. Glad we chose this, because it turned out the location was phenomenal, the cabin was more than a cabin (it was a small house) and our stay simply was perfect. From having dinner around the campfire every night, the hiking, trails and nearby waterfalls, this truly was a hidden gem. I immediately told family and friends about it. I'm sure we'll be back!

Perfection
We had a wonderful weekend at the Otter Box cabin. The home was beautiful inside and out and everything was fresh, clean, and inviting. We appreciated all of the extra compliments, from soft cozy blankets to fresh ground coffee and Christmas treats! We also loved the location, private and surrounded by the forest and wildlife, but close enough to town to visit attractions and enjoy restaurants. We highly recommend the Otter Box!

Fresh cup of coffee was a favorite!
The Otter Box cabin was the perfect getaway! We were offered very early check-in to this immaculate cabin. We had absolutely everything we needed and some extras to include snacks and the best coffee.
Sitting on the porch and watching the deer with a hot, fresh cup of coffee was a favorite. We were comfortable, and the setting is so peaceful. The host is friendly and very precise with directions. Our only regret is we couldn't stay longer.

Slice of heaven on earth!
The Otter Box Cabin is a slice of heaven here on earth! The actual cabin as well as the grounds is so peaceful and beautiful! The living area in Otter Box Cabin is spacious for a Cabin sleeping six guests.
Otter Box is graciously stocked with all the comforts of home. Parking is extremely convenient...you can back up your vehicle to the steps, and most importantly, there is a handicap ramp available to guests who are less comfortable with the stairs!
Having the ramp was the #1 reason we booked this specific cabin! We intend to book The Otter Box Cabin for our next visit!

Hurricane Francine uninvited
We had an uninvited guest in our home state of Louisiana too close for comfort with dogs. We were guest in this cabin during Labor Day weekend and contacted Peaciful Retreats about Otter Box cabin short notice. The hosts were quick to accommodate us and our pups. Thank you again for your hospitality and we will always consider you first on our list for cabin rentals.

Amazing Getaway!
From the moment we arrived at the Otterbox Cabin, we fell in love with the area and the cabin. The cabin is beautiful and clean and had everything we could have asked for! The location was perfect- secluded, but still not far from Desoto Falls and the park and the canyon and restaurants. This was our first time in Mentone, and I never dreamed it was such a hidden gem. We did lots of hiking, even around the cabin itself, and sight-seeing and the Otterbox Cabin was the perfect place to come home to after a busy day out. We can’t thank you enough for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. We can’t wait to rent it again ,and hopefully the Coyote cabin as well, and bring our family back to experience the beauty of this area. It was a perfect weekend!

Well Stocked and Very Clean
My stay at this property was fantastic. The cabin was well cleaned and the kitchen was well stocked with supplies and utensils. I had a few questions during my stay and Misti was able to answer and address those immediately. One of my favorites was the variety of teas they offered and the fact that they had an electric water kettle. It made my tea experience that much more enjoyable.
Also, there are several throw blankets lying around. This was nice because when we did get cold, we didn't have to hunt for something to cover up with or pull bedding off the beds.
The area was very quiet and close to DeSoto State Park. I would highly recommend the Otter Box cabin.

We love this cabin!
We love this cabin! We rented this cabin for two nights. It had a ramp for me to get to the high porch that was unbelievable. I am handicapped and in a wheelchair. The ramp could not have been any more perfect. The front door was plenty wide for me and the rooms were spacious.
We love being outside and we stayed on the big front deck most of the time. We saw two deer that grazed up to the cabin, one squirrel jumping from tree to tree, and lots of birds! The only thing we didn't see was a bear and I was so thankful it or they didn't come see us :) We will be back to rent again! We had a great weekend!
