Seabury Lookout – Elevated Bach Living with Expansive Outlooks
Seabury Lookout is a classic Kiwi bach perched high above the coast, with sweeping views from estuary to ranges. Cosy, relaxed, and full of charm - it’s the perfect place to unwind, explore, and soak in the scenery.
Once the original Postmaster’s house, this classic Kiwi bach blends character with comfort. Perched high on the hill, it captures sweeping views in every direction. Start your day with coffee overlooking the estuary and the Tararua Ranges, then wind down in the evening with a glass of wine as the sun sets over farmland and the community below.
Inside, it’s easy, relaxed holiday living. The main lounge offers generous seating and a wood burner for cosy winter nights, while a separate kids’ lounge with its own TV gives everyone space to unwind. Bedrooms are simple and restful, and the spacious bathroom includes a bath, shower over bath, and separate toilet. For slower moments, you’ll find puzzles, board games, and the latest NZ House & Garden magazines ready to enjoy. With partial double glazing in the bedrooms and lounge, the house stays warm and snug - perfect for curling up with a good book.
The deck is a favourite gathering spot, complete with built-in picnic seating, shade umbrella, and gated access for peace of mind with children. As evening falls, the settlement lights begin to twinkle and the sky opens up to a blanket of stars.
Adventure and local charm are right on your doorstep. Beat the fuel surges as you can grab legendary fish and chips from Mr Grumpy’s 400m away, or stroll to the Ninja Cafe 100M further on or beach for swimming, fishing, kite surfing, surfing or white baiting in season. The estuary is even closer-just a short walk from the house as is the fantastic playground (with skate ramps, flying fox, tennis courts (basic racquets, BYO balls and more) to keep the kids entertained, some of it visible right from the lounge and bedrooms.
Take a walk or bike ride into Foxton to explore its iconic windmill, quirky museums, vibrant murals, and a great selection of cafés and local shops. Book lovers shouldn’t miss Mewington’s Bookshop, while seasonal highlights include fresh produce at Lewis Farms. For those wanting more activity, a short drive away there’s golf at Foxton Golf Club, wakeboarding at Off The Loop in season, and a range of local markets and events throughout the year.
Whether you’re planning a family getaway, a couples’ retreat, or a laid-back trip with friends, Seabury Lookout offers a genuine Kiwi bach experience in a setting that guests return to again and again.

It was a good stay owners seems friendly and the house was quite warm and cozy but i did not like that a white tail that bit my leg in the bed but i guess its just a spider not tooo bad it was close to the park and beach which was really great my son enjoyd it so much would happily go stay there again
Lovely place to stay with elevated outlook and good views. Well stocked with appliances and essentials. Liked the proximity to the tennis courts and the park. Handy location with good parking at the top and secure. No wifi. Narrow driveway. Would prefer not to bring own linen and do cleaning for lesser surcharge. Overall great play to stay.
Very nice beach property. Well equiped with everything you could need. Good access to walks, river and beach. My only quibble would be the requirement to provide your own linen and doing the cleaning. It’s not really appropriate when you are paying a commercial rent.
A wonderful holoday house, a great stay pre-christmas before the holiday buzz took off.
Dianne and Riley were great hosts and prompt with their responses back to our inquiries.
Their Foxten Beach home was a lovely and relaxing place to unwind and forget the city life. Playground close by for our little 4 year old including tennis and netball courts and a flying fox, bonus! Lovely natural nature reserves close by and the beach very accessible. A lovely walk there over sand dunes for kids.
Cafes and local shops close by were good to get brunch or a coffee after a nice walk along the beach.
Highly reccimend staying there.
Our brief stay was great! Easy and early communications with the owners meant no last minute fluffing. We are a family of 4 and wach kid got a room and their own bed. Warm and dry.. easy to get into late at night.

Authentic bach experience in a lovely spot
We had a great relaxing time and the owner was very helpful. The elevated position of the house gave a good view of the estuary and surrounding area. A great place to come to if you're in to bird-watching.
