Having lived in Gunsan for three years over the past decade, I am very familiar with the city. During my most recent visit (Oct 2017), I was pleased to see a nice hotel finally built closer to Kunsan AB, the airport, University, and especially Eunpa Park, which is only a five-minute walk. The park/lake is wonderful for running/walking, with paddleboat rentals, and numerous casual dining options. There are also several nice restaurants, but you need a taxi to get to those. The room was comfortable and contained a small refrigerator, but was a bit perfunctory for the price. The hotel, open for about a year, was not booked to capacity during my stay, but the staff didn't offer me a room with the wonderful view of the park, and I didn't know to ask. Instead I saw only aging apartments out my window. So, since they don't volunteer the lake view rooms, be sure to ask for one, unless the city views are priced significantly lower. Only two (small and slow) elevators service the entire tower, so plan ahead for extra riding/waiting time. Four, larger elevators would have been more appropriate. An extensive breakfast buffet is available for about $17, but, the dining room is also undersized for the hotel, so guests should be informed at the desk that a reservation is required, and a significant wait is very likely. Alternatively, exit the hotel, and walk (left) about 200 meters to the corner, where one can enjoy a delicious bowl of "hangover soup" for only $6, served 24 hours a day!
