"This is a beautiful resort and the onsens were amazing, quiet, relaxing, rooms were lovely. The kasieki meal was superb, breakfast had 100 choices. Only complaint os coffee at night had coffee grounds in it. i recommend a two night stay so you may visit both baths. The pajama wear and takata wear were so awesome to wear all over the resort and to dinner! What fun. No racial prejudice felt at this resort. Also a great location to catch the cable car to the ropeway which is a must do! Take the romance car back to tokyo very easy! Try to see Mt Fuji at the lake ferry just breath taking!,"

"We stayed here in November 2023 in a room on the 4th floor. Right from the get go, the staff were attentive, bringing a refreshing welcome drink ahead of checking us into the room. The room was lovely, with the tatami floors and beautifully decorated screen. The star of the show was the private onsen on the terrace overlooking the mountains. We would definitely recommend the 4th floor for the views, it was spectacular! The food was also delicious, with the kaiseki course for dinner in a private room, more and more food kept coming out and the variety of different japanese dishes was great to learn about traditional foods. Breakfast was also lovely, with the option to go with either a japanese or western style meal, again served in the private room. We found out stay here relaxing and rejuvenating and have already booked a return trip in 2025! "

"A beautiful properly. We had a room with an onsen on our deck, it was supposed to have a lakeview but trees are all grown in and blocking. This place feels remote but there is a bus stop station close and the pirate ship/ cable cars. No stores or restaurants close by but we really enjoyed the breakfast and dinner buffets."

"Great ryokan experience. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and well stocked. The food was phenomenal. We stayed for two nights and they had a different menu each day. The service was exemplary. We brought our 4 month old baby boy and they went out of the way to accommodate us. They put us in a slightly more secluded room and dining section so we didn’t need to feel bad when he cried. They set up a little bed for him at dinner time. "

"The quality of the dinner that we stay on the second night was not very good but the assistant manager helped us to solve the problem right away. In the next coming, the restaurant manager do the follow up on the issue. They are so considerate. My friends and my family have a very pleasant stay in here. Thanks all the staff."

"The staff, grounds, and food were all superb. We booked the Open Air Big Stone Bath room type so we had a private hot springs bath in our onsen. It was amazing to get in whenever we wanted, but it may be unnecessary depending on your budget since their public (hotel guests only) open air baths are so spectacular. Also, if you don’t book a room with a private bath, you can reserve a time slot for a private one on the hotel grounds. The time slots will give you access to a private bath, steam spa and bathroom for 40 minutes. We did this for the experience and it was a beautiful and relaxing private bath with forest vegetation to look at. There is a downside to the Gora Kadan but it is still 5 stars for me. I mention it next because I feel it is worth noting. When I first arrived I heard some traffic noise from vehicles and the mountain railway from our room. I was initially discouraged by this but the experience at the hotel that followed muted my disappointment. If I knew about this beforehand, I may not have booked but that would have been a mistake and an amazing experience missed. You may be able avoid the noise if you book one of their higher end rooms. I’m not sure. Absolutely make sure you book a room with in room meals though. I believe at least one of the annex rooms does not have in room meals. At this price point, I often do not feel like we got our moneys worth from our accommodation but with the Gora Kadan we absolutely did. "
