Tynwald Hop Kiln

Tynwald Hop Kiln is ideally situated in one of the finest scenic parklands in Tasmania.
It is an historical landmark, nestled on the banks of the Derwent Valley in Tynwald Park within a 10 minute walk to the High Street.

The period accommodation features:
Wi Fi connectivity, blue tooth Sony Speaker, Netflix and Smart TV.

Tynwald Hop Kiln has been tastefully renovated by skilled artisans over many years.
It offers a rare opportunity to relax and stay in a unique architecturally repurposed accommodation. It features modern living convenience and style.

The 19th century building is spacious, inviting and bristling with comfort and convenience. It offers a unique atmosphere for people seeking a new experience.

A beer wall exists in the kitchen, specifically for making craft beer and a wood school exists on site. Details of classes can be found on the web if you search for Derwent valley woodworking.

New Norfolk is regarded as the country capital and only 20 minutes from MONA, Hobart's world class Museum of Old and New Art, 30 minutes to, Salamanca Markets, and the Hobart water front.

Travelling west there are bucolic rural settings, small townships, Mt Field National Park, Forestry, fishing, hunting, bushwalking and adventure.

The township of New Norfolk represents one of the earliest towns in Tasmania, circa 1807. The 19th century early settlers relied on stunning river frontage, timber cutting and forestry, later cropping, fruit and hop farming and mental health.

The 20th century was marked by industrial growth and the emergence of mining, dam building, paper making, tourism and continuing service to the mentally ill at Willow Court.

This accommodation features heritage bricks, substantial timbers flooring and walls, heavy exposed beams, high ceilings, and well ventilated rooms.
The rooms are heated by a fan forced wood burning heater in Kitchen / Dining room and an imposing free standing wood burning fire in the lounge / library.

Today, the Oast House operates as a holiday home and Fine Wood working school.
The woodworking school commenced in 2015.
We offer short courses and accommodation throughout the year.

Details of the classes and accommodation can be viewed on the web address listed above.

We had a wonderful 9 days (us and elderly mum) in this amazing historic home in New Norfolk, 25 mins from Hobart. Full of character! Chris showed us around the ancient parts of the building (really interesting g). His workshop is awesome! The house is a lived-in family home with lots of interesting books, decoration etc (chris and Kaye have separate apartment). Not the whole cookie-cutter beige pristine rental property thing! That suited us just fine. Comfy lounges, Netflix, beautiful balcony made for a very relaxing break. Our little dog was welcome. Some stairs and very high beds. We loved the location (inside Tynwald park). Lots nearby - don’t miss Agrarian kitchen., Quilted Teapot, wineries, antiques. Chris and Kaye are beaut people and were very helpful.

Had a lovely family holiday. Stunning heritage property with lots of charming and unique features. Chris and Kay were delightful hosts, who were even able to hook us up with a loan car when all the commercial operators were out of stock.Derwent Valley it'self, is well worth an explore.

This property was an ideal location for our purposes- 5 minutes from my sister’s nursing home who we had come from Sydney to visit. Kaye and Chris were very on site to greet us when we arrived and showed us through the apartment. There was a supply of necessaries available for our use -salt and pepper, teabags ,coffee maker and coffeee, eggs and milk available. They were on hand if we needed anything and were very charming hosts. I recommend The Oasthouse cottage to anyone wishing to visit New Norfolk.

Our home for 4 nights was the delightful Oasthouse Cottage. The cottage was lovely and clean, warm but spacious, very well equipped and was perfect for our stay. Great location close to the Agrarian kitchen, the town centre, local attractions and an easy drive to the all important Maydena Bike Park. Even more perfect was our delightful hosts Chris and Kaye - Genuine people who are Warm, Kind and Super helpful, they were simply lovely! We hope to be back soon. Thank you again Chris and Kaye

We had a delightful stay at the Oast House. The owners went above and beyond to make our stay over Christmas special, including a Christmas tree, decorations and flowers from the garden. The deck off the main living area is lovely with a great view over the river and surrounding hills. The house is rustic and character filled with hand made and antique furniture - not for IKEA/faux Scandi decor lovers. WIth plenty of space and all necessary mod cons. Stella, the resident cat made our stay feel just like home. Highly recommended if you like peace and quiet in a great country setting. Try the Badger and Bike Cafe in town for good coffee.

Chris and Kaye met us to let us in and tell us about the place and it’s amenities. They were really lovely and cater for your every need. We loved the house the location and the style. The veranda is a particularly nice place for a morning coffee or afternoon champagne. It was great that they had a Smart TV so we watched movies as well as free internet.its been our favourite place to stay so far in Tassie and we have stayed in a lot of places. We will definitely come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at oashouse, the property looked like something out of escape to the country, set in a old hops drying barn. Beautifully done with attention to detail with a lovely relaxed, homely vibe. Couldn't of asked for nicer hosts, stocking our fire and having everything you need for a good old fashioned English breakfast. My two boys and our dog didn't want to leave. Thank you.
