  • "I still believe in a place called Hope" - President Bill Clinton The Clinton Birthplace Foundation, Inc. preserved the two and one-half story frame house as Bill Clinton’s 1st Home Museum. The home has deep projecting eaves and a broad one-story hipped roof porch on the front. Its style is American foursquare, so called because of its square floor plan. There are many foursquare houses in towns and cities across the country, most built during the early years of the 20th century. The Clinton house dates from 1917. The Cassidy family moved into the home in 1938, when Clinton's mother, Virginia, was in high school, and purchased the house in 1946. The restored interior still has much of its original detail, including the staircase in the living room, with its turned balusters and massive, paneled newel post. A small pantry features built-in cupboards. Virtually all of the second floor finishes are original, including the flooring and the beaded board in the hallway and nursery. ADA person using cane and rolling walker. Caution to wheelchair users, entry is up a ramp-like slope, (no steps), double door but my rolling walker did not fit through the single unlocked door. As I was unlocking the door's other side, person from desk asked me to stop, but when I said I couldn't get through, I continued unlocking and went to my car. No problen when arriving except doors are difficult to hold open, due to angled entry. No handicap parking. Only mobility assist in room was one bar in tub.Toilet was low rise. Top bath towel too high to reach.But great bed, excellent space in room for my walker, good lighting, functional desk, lots of plugs and ports.

The room was clean and although it was labeled as non-smoking it smelled mildly of cigarettes. The paint on the walls was warping, mirror in bathroom had a large crack. The window screens were crooked and whoever painted the room left plenty of paint on the window. The good news was that the room was quite clean as were the bed linens. No signs of insects or bed bugs the beds were reasonably comfortable. It was an inexpensive place to sleep before moving on. Hope, on the other hand is a dying town with plenty of trash and unhappy people. A local Pentecostal preacher stood on the street corner with several followers and proclaimed loudly through a bullhorn about the certainty of hell and eternal torture awaiting anyone who did not join his church. It did make air some interesting entertainment.

My room was supposed to be booked for two noght and i should jave been able to check out thurday the 1st and now im having to check oht today. I dont have the extra money to pay for another night. Me and my son are having to sleep in our car in the 20 degree weather.
