"No wi-fi and no tv were two of the main perks. The dark skies and end of the road location were the main attraction. The nearby hiking trails and endless beauty were the surprise. The desert had just had rain so it was blooming everywhere (luck, not good timing) which added to the awe. The room was dated but clean and neat. Only disappointment was that the restaurant was being remodeled so the option was a food truck. AS someone who has lived nearly 40 years in Texas, I was surprised and delighted that it looks just like my dad's old westerns that always showed the Indians ride down from the mountains, etc. Take food in an ice chest (rooms have a mini fridge and microwave. Take bottles of water and other beverages (they have a convenience store with a fair selection but a little pricey). Take the time to make the scenic drives to the canyons and the border areas. Make yourself hike the mile up for the view at surnise (good trails easy to follow and I have had a knee replacement last year). Oh, and one last thing; don't forget to breathe."
"Our stay at Casita de Chiles was absolutely incredible and became one of our favorite trips we've ever taken. Mark and Michelle were amazing hosts and truly made the experience special. You can tell they genuinely care about both their guests and their property.
The location was exactly what we hoped for — peaceful, remote, and completely off the beaten path. We were surrounded by breathtaking views of the Christmas Mountains and spent our nights under some of the clearest skies we've ever seen. The stargazing alone was worth the trip.
The wildlife experience was unbelievable. During our stay we saw deer, quail, javelina, Mexican cardinals, bats, scorpions under UV light, a tarantula, and even a rattlesnake. It truly felt like stepping into another world.
A major highlight was the excursion with Mark and Michelle. We spent about 6.5 hours covering roughly 52 miles exploring Terlingua Ranch. They showed us incredible canyons, beautiful views, and hidden places we never would have found ourselves. It felt less like a tour and more like spending the day with friends.
And we can’t forget Chula, who completely stole our hearts.
If you want peace, adventure, wildlife, dark skies, and a chance to disconnect and recharge, this place is perfect. We’ll be talking about this trip for a long time and hope to return."
"Our Hosts, Janet and Daryl, were extremely helpful and their response time was great. The home is perfect and has anything you would need. The bed was so comfortable. We enjoyed stargazing in complete darkness! So many stars and a wide open view!"
