"Property was clean and staff was friendly and efficient. Beds were comfy and shower was good. Decent lighting in room with microwave fridge and coffee. Only minor complaint was the door for the bathroom. It’s a sliding barn type door across the sink/shower & toilet/micro & fridge area. Ok if you’re VERY comfortable with your travel mate but would be better if there was a proper door for the toilet area. Poor was a welcome treat, clean and warm with plenty of towels. You could walk to all the sights around the hotel including to hike the gorge. Recommend for a good base or nice overnight leaf peeping trip. Woodstock was about a 15 minute ride away. "
"Dowds' Country Inn was beautiful and picturesque, and charming in that way that only old buildings can be. The sign was very difficult to read at night, but once we found the place, we loved it. Just beyond the inn parking lot you could see a beautiful herb and vegetable garden. The entryway was beautiful and inviting. My partner and I entered the lobby and found it warmly lit, with a sign expressing regrets that no one could be there to greet us (we were arriving late at night). On the front desk, we found a laminated info sheet on checking in with my name written on it in dry erase marker, as well as our room number and key. We shuffled quietly upstairs into our room, which was fresh and clean. The room included a bed, dresser, sink/vanity, and closet with and iron and ironing board. The bathroom included a standing shower and toilet, with an overhead light and a red heat lamp setting.
We heard there was a complimentary breakfast and went down to eat in the morning. We found some well-stocked tea and coffee stations, but no food, and were confused until a staff member came out and took our order (there was a signboard listing our options of French toast or pancakes with blackberries, or yogurt with fruit and granola, plus milk or orange juice) and she made our breakfast to order. It was absolutely delicious.
There's not much going on in Lyme, and we were staying to attend a nearby wedding, but this charming little inn is worth a stop, even if only for the French toast. "
"Breakfast was great. Disappointed there was no fridge in the room, no extra blankets, it did get down to 28 degrees, also no extra towels, 1 of each for each of us. At almost $200.00 a night it was disappointing. Thank you Ellen Clark "
"This was our favorite stay for our 7-day New England trip! After a hectic day exploring Vermont towns with thousands of other tourists, it was a breath of fresh air to pull into peaceful Lyme. The inn is well appointed with gorgeous gardens and sitting areas. Comfortable rooms with tasteful decor. Easy parking. The onsite restaurant is wonderful! We didn’t know to make a reservation but they offered to seat us at the bar. We got lucky and a cancellation came through, so we had a leisurely meal in the sunroom with a very kind and helpful server.
There’s not much to do outside the inn, but we enjoyed strolling by the historic horse stables and down the main road after dinner. Would absolutely stay again, and next time, we’ll remember to reserve a table for dinner! "
