This is one of the places in east Texas that not many Texans know of. This was my third visit to this place and I was still amazed with the beauty I could see in a place like Texas. It's just 4 hours drive from Austin and 2.5 hours drive from Dallas towards East.

What makes this place special is cypress trees in the lake and their beautiful reflections. You get a different flavor in each season - greens all around in spring and summer, different colors in fall and a brown cover in winters. Also, you would be in for a treat if you are a bird lover. Get up early in the morning and you could hear several birds chirping.

Tips:

1. Avoid visiting this place in summer as it's still Texas and it gets very hot and humid during that time.

2. Instead of booking a hotel in Karnack town, get a vacation rental (go Vrbo) in "Uncertain" -- yes, that's the name of the place. Most vacation rentals have a minimum of two night stays so plan the trip accordingly.

"Such a charming farmhouse getaway!! We spent most of our time poolside which was breezy & sunny for most of the daylight hours. The pool is very clean & clear with fountains and lights that added a nice ambience to our view and serenity. I loved the 2 sunken pool chairs nestled between fountains on the pool deck. "Hotel served its purpose, was only there to sleep, paid for what i got. However do not prepay for room. They are no longer under this name and new owners do not take 3rd party reservations. I had to pay again for room. Expedia is helping with my refund, but it’s something you don’t want to deal with. "

"This was absolutely the best weekend stay. Loved being by the water, the kids fished and i soaked up some sunshine. The upper deck of the house was great, we played a few games outside. The entire house was clean and very comfortable. We are already planning a trip back!"
