The hotel meet my expectations the cleanliness and service. Every employee I had contact with with was outstanding. Million the front desk clerk was always smiling and ready to be of service. The only negative issue a had was with my room location. The rooms is the area of the bar / lounge and outside smoking area should be avoid due to the late night and early morning visits by guests. I would suggest getting a room on the backside of the hotel and away from the elevators to avoid the noise. I would most definitely stay here again.PS: the breakfast buffet was cheaper at the property than on-line.

Friendly staff, excellent food options in the hotel, close proximity to the city center, all of these contributed to a wonderful stay. The hotel room carpet felt a little bit dirty but that's my only real concern for an otherwise quality hotel.

Fantastic hotel option in Joburg
I travelled with my family to Johannesburg in July 2023. We had a wonderful experience during our stay at the Holiday Inn Johannesburg Sunnyside. The staff was friendly and always ready to assist, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The hotel's location was conveniently situated for tour pickups and in a safe area, making it easy for us to explore the city. Moreover, we thoroughly enjoyed dining at the on-site restaurant; the food was absolutely delicious. We had the buffet for breakfast and dinner, but a la carte options were also available. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others looking for a pleasant and satisfying stay.

This is a gracious old hotel. The staff are very accommodating and the meals were excellent. We loved our stay. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with towering trees.

Nice Hotel
Good experience. Nice mix of old and new. Generally the service was good with two exceptions. The location is great - very peaceful area and close to Killarney Mall; and the facilities are quite good as well. Go for it.

Regrettably this hotel has deteriorated. The grounds are lovely and the rooms clean. However, service is average and food definitely not great. It is also not a walkable area, and there is no little convenience store in the hotel to buy basics

I had a HORRIBLE weekend at Sunnyside Park Hotel. There were renovations going on in the same floor that I was staying in. Everyday from Friday to Sunday I would be woken up by the banging and the machine sounds. It was really annoying and disturbing. I had particularly chosen the hotel because it is secluded but little did I know what awaited me. I should have been moved to a different floor or section of the hotel or not booked at all.

Stay was good. Passage to the room looks run down with dark & old carpets. But r under renovation. Breakfast was excellent. Bed is super comfortable. Hotel itself is beautiful structurally. Garden, pool area and bar area excellent.

The thing is.. if you don’t have a car the place is not for you.. it’s in the middle of nowhere and the area is dangerous.. I was robed just two blocks from there.

The hotel was comfortable if in need of refurbishment. The staff tried hard to make our stay enjoyable, but the hotel suffers from being Parktown so you have to take a taxi to get anywhere, but this is easily arranged by the hotel

Staff were friendly, helpful and sincere. Rooms in hotel has a nice decor, comfortable beds and clean. Breakfast was adequate and good quality. Overall hotel condition is well maintained despite its age but the fitness Centre and pool need attention and proper maintenance.

Plus side: Was upgraded to a suit with a balcony (room 102), as the hotel is busy with renovations and the standard rooms not available, only ones outside. I was one of prob a handful of guests, very quiet, so I did not want to be staying in an isolated outside room for safety reasons. I could check in already around 11am. Negative side: I stayed at 4-star hotels before abroad and in South Africa. Not sure why this is a 4-star hotel as there is no attention to detail. Or perhaps slipped up due to the quiet season in Johannesburg? No cushions on the deck chairs at the pool, wilted roses at the breakfast tables, staff making food order extremely complicated. Only nice parts of the hotel are the lounge and lobby areas. Room 102 needs an update. Carpets old, balcony very dusty.

Old world charm in the middle of Jozi
Beautiful Hotel in a great area, loved the large trees and the old world charm, it felt as if I was staying in a Caste. The building is over 100 years old, but kept well. It was a cold winters day and there were two fires lit in the fireplace in the lounge, which is nice to just sit and relax or meet with friends. The breakfast buffet was lovely. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it and would come and visit again. The WIFI was helpful.

Happy at the Sunnyside Park
Top marks to staff who are all charming, to the lounge with two fires roaring in it, to the good breakfast, fast wi-fi, coffee and cake in the lounge, security, parking etc. Door to my room was't secure and they changed it immediately. Needs a bit of a deep clean - they are revamping so the passages and elevators on the one side were a bit grubby - carpets in my room too ... needed a good shampoo. Positioning was really central for me and the meetings I needed to get to. Meant I didn't spend hours in traffic. That was another huge plus. Would happily stay there again.

Comfortable hotel, with character
The hotel is a comfortable colonial hotel with very nice gardens. There has been an ongoing programme of renovation in recent years, which is almost complete. The staff a friendly, and sufficient in number, but it is sometimes hard to catch their attention at breakfast time to get some tea or coffee. This aspect of the service could be improved. I have stayed in this hotel three times in the last three years, and it has been the same each time. On a positive note, the last two times I have stayed were in the winter, and the log fires in the very comfortable lounge area are very welcome, creating a very cosy atmosphere.

Friendly service
Before I arrived at this hotel, I knew this was an old property. The staff throughout my stay were friendly and courteous. However, the ceiling above the reception has a number of old water stains. The look throughout the main building where the reception is, is really quite dated although clean, well maintained and in good condition overall. The curtains in my room both appeared to be falling down. Otherwise, all in all, I enjoyed my stay. The food was excellent and this is a quiet location.

We have started with rooms changing the bathroom to a more modern look, as well we replaced the Milner’s Restaurant carpet with tiles during December. Nice, spacious room. Passage ways etc. undergoing renovations, so naturally not perfect, but not unpleasant. Will stay there again.

Sunnyside Park Hotel
My booking through Expedia was not registered on their system. They had no idea I was booked into the hotel. When I showed them the confirmation from Expedia, they found me a room. The explanation given was that Expedia had used the incorrect email address to make the booking and yet my colleague had booked through Expedia and there was no problem with his booking. They had no card key for me because their card reading machine had broken. I had to be escorted to my room each time I needed to get in. The hotel took a deposit of R500 from my credit card when I checked in and yet I was told at dinner and the bar that I had to pay cash. When I told the staff that I had given a credit card deposit when checking in, they showed me a list on which my name appeared with instructions that I had to pay cash. Very awkward and inconvenient. The hotel is a beautiful old building but it is run down and tired. It needs a lot of maintenance. The aircon kept switching itself off and a technician had to be called to re-set it.

Historic hotel set in lovely grounds, however the hotel is in need of modernisation / refurbishment. Also, the CBD is not an attractive area to explore safely
