About this property
Shores of Saturn · Tiki Boat Bar, Hot Tub, Quonset
Summary:
Shores of Saturn is no ordinary Joshua Tree getaway. Inside a soaring Quonset hut, a full-sized 1969 Chris Craft motor yacht has been transformed into a tiki bar. Spend your days exploring this wonderfully eccentric home, spinning vintage records, and soaking in the six-person hot tub. With 15 private acres, mountain views, and an atmosphere unlike anywhere else, this is a desert escape with a personality all its own.
The Space:
The first thing you notice is the scale. An enormous arched ceiling rises above an eclectic collection of vintage furnishings, century-old rugs, and unexpected architectural details, while walls of glass bring the surrounding desert into view. Industrial steel meets warm wood, rich leather, and playful tiki-inspired design. Every corner has something worth discovering, yet the home feels inviting and comfortable, with plenty of room to gather, lounge, and enjoy a slower pace.
There's a sense of adventure built into the architecture itself. Wander between the boat's furnished deck, the open living room, and the upstairs loft, where a king bed and antique clawfoot bathtub sit beneath the curve of the ceiling. Whether you're here for a creative getaway, a weekend with close friends, or simply to experience a home that breaks all the usual rules, Shores of Saturn makes staying in part of the destination.

-Outdoor Amenities-
Beyond the enormous glass doors, 15 acres of open desert give you room to appreciate the quiet, changing light, and distant mountains of North Joshua Tree. The landscape is beautifully simple, with native vegetation, broad horizons, and little between you and the surrounding scenery.
The six-person hot tub is an especially good place to take it all in. Settle into the warm water after exploring Joshua Tree, or enjoy a leisurely soak while watching the colors shift across the desert. A propane BBQ and outdoor dining table for four make meals outside easy, while the propane fire pit offers another place to gather when the evening cools.
Adding to the property's wonderfully unconventional character is Dry Bones, a vintage 32-foot 1971 Airstream parked on the grounds. It's a fun piece of the property's retro landscape and makes a memorable backdrop for personal photos, though the trailer itself remains locked and is not available for guest use.
-Living Area-
The main living room feels like an eclectic design lounge set inside an aircraft hangar. A generously sized cognac leather sectional wraps around a marble coffee table, with richly patterned vintage rugs adding warmth and color to the polished concrete floors. The towering windows and curved ceiling give the room an extraordinary sense of openness.
Settle in for a movie on the 50-inch smart TV, pull out a board game, or put on a record using the vintage McIntosh sound system. The collection of unusual furnishings, artwork, and artifacts gives the space plenty of character without sacrificing comfort.
Because the living area connects visually to the upstairs loft and the boat, the home has an especially social atmosphere. Music, conversation, and activity can flow naturally throughout the space.
-The Tiki Boat Bar-
And then there's the boat.
A full-sized 1969 Chris Craft motor yacht sits inside the house, complete with its original hull, wood detailing, helm, and vintage gauges. Rather than simply displaying this remarkable piece of nautical history, the owners have transformed it into a furnished tiki bar and lounge.
Step aboard to discover rattan seating, blue banquettes, tropical details, tiki mugs, and a collection of curious artifacts. A mini fridge and cocktail supplies make it easy to mix your favorite drinks, while the original wheel and instruments preserve the yacht's character.
It's an unexpected place to spend an evening, whether you're sharing cocktails with friends, listening to records, or simply enjoying the novelty of lounging aboard a vintage motor yacht in the middle of the California desert.
-Kitchen and Dining-
The kitchen brings a more refined, midcentury-inspired sensibility to the home's playful interiors. Custom white oak cabinetry, glossy olive-green tile, clean white countertops, and a retro-colored refrigerator create a warm, beautifully considered space for cooking and gathering.
A generous island with four cane-back stools naturally becomes the morning meeting spot. Brew fresh Joshua Tree Coffee Co. beans using the drip coffee maker, French press, or pour-over setup while everyone decides how to spend the day.
The kitchen includes a gas range, oven, dishwasher, cookware, utensils, spices, and olive oil, making it easy to prepare anything from a quick breakfast to a full dinner. An indoor dining table for four sits near the boat's hull, giving even an ordinary meal a distinctly unusual backdrop.
-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
Shores of Saturn features two sleeping areas and two bathrooms, with a king bed upstairs and a queen bed downstairs. The home accommodates up to five guests, though there are only two beds. Its open architecture is an important part of the experience, so it's best suited to couples, close friends, or groups comfortable with a shared, loft-style layout.
-Primary Loft | King Bed-
Upstairs, the primary sleeping area occupies an open loft beneath the dramatic curve of the Quonset hut ceiling. A king bed rests on a vintage Persian rug, surrounded by warm plywood walls, built-in shelving, and distinctive furnishings.
The adjoining open bathroom is one of the home's most memorable spaces. A 70-year-old clawfoot bathtub invites a long soak, while a walk-in shower adds everyday convenience. The toilet is housed in its own enclosed room with a door.
Privacy screen panels provide some separation from the rest of the house, but the loft is not a fully enclosed bedroom. It overlooks the main living space below.
-Downstairs Bedroom | Queen Bed-
Tucked behind the yacht, the second sleeping area has a cozy, slightly hidden-away quality. A queen bed, comfortable lounge chair, colorful accents, and a sculptural orange cone-style fireplace give the room its own personality.
Like the loft, this sleeping area is not completely enclosed by walls and a traditional bedroom door. Guests have access to the fully enclosed downstairs bathroom, which features a spacious shower and playful alien-themed wallpaper.
A separate laundry room with a washer and dryer is also available for guest use.
-Surrounding Area-
Downtown Joshua Tree and the Integratron are both an easy drive, and the park's West Entrance is within reach. Locals swear by the burger at the Copper Room, the yucca fries at Tiny Pony, sound baths at the Integratron, and the Red Dog Saloon and Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown. For an adventure, hike around Giant Rock, said to be an extraterrestrial vortex.
