Katase Onsen Holidays

This used to be my favorite hotel in Shinjuku. Unfortunately the hotel hasn’t been kept very well. The rooms were very dusty. I could see dust particles in the air coming from the air ducts. I left with a throat infection. The onsen area was weathered. There was a broken handrail in the men’s onsen. The glass was very dirty. I had arranged for a birthday cake surprise and they showed up about an hour late making it very awkward. Checking in and out is frantic with “self checkin” stations that seemed to create more issues rather than streamline the process. They are short-staffed. The lobby is unenjoyable with hundreds of pieces of luggage lining the walls.

I really enjoyed my stay at GRAND MONday Ueno Okachimachi. The best part was definitely the 2nd floor because it had the gym, sauna, vending machine and public bath all right there together. It was so convenient to finish a workout and go straight into the spa to relax. The front desk is staffed and they are super helpful. Having a washer/dryer and a full fridge made everything so much easier. It’s also in a great spot—super close to the station and within walking distance to the markets and Akihabara. I’d definitely stay here again!
