Let the oceanfront, gated retreat of Hilo Shangrila envelop you, with its private saltwater pool, hot tub, and covered lanai, all just a stone's throw from the peaceful Pacific. New air conditioning has been added in all bedrooms for total guest comfort. We are constantly upgrading our home with guest comfort in mind! Situated in the quiet, rural Hawaiian Paradise Park neighborhood, the home beautifully accommodates six guests.

Hilo Shangrila's airy, inviting living room and well-equipped kitchen feature soaring ceilings and a wall of glass doors to maximize ocean views and indoor-outdoor living. The home also boasts a dining space for six in full view of the ocean, an office space and additional sitting area, and a laundry area.

The master bedroom at Hilo Shangrila offers more vaulted ceilings, a king-size bed, a walk-in closet, and an ensuite bath with a walk-in shower. The welcoming guest bedroom also has high ceilings and a queen-size bed, as well as its own full bath just steps away, with a large tub and shower. The third sleeping area is adjacent to the master bedroom and has a pull out sofa.

The saltwater swimming pool has a breathtaking view of the brilliant blue Pacific. Its surrounding lanai provides the opportunity to soak up the warm Hawaiian sun or lounge in the shade. A covered hot tub is the perfect setting for enjoying cooler evenings, and a gas barbecue grill creates another option for meals at home.

This Puna-area home on the Big Island's east side allows easy access to attractions such as black-sand Kehena Beach, Pohoiki (aka Isaac Hale) Beach Park, and the Na Ala Hele hiking trail. In nearby Pahoa town, guests will find excellent seafood, Italian, Mexican and Filipino restaurants, along with a 50's-style coffee shop and a natural foods market. At the farmers' markets, take advantage of the opportunity to sample unusual local fruits (like passion fruit, star fruit, lychee, mango, and papaya); feast on a homemade crepe with bananas, chocolate and cream; try some homemade Thai noodles or salads; find a unique, hand-crafted piece from a Big Island artist; enjoy a soothing professional massage; or experience authentic Hawaiian music. Loved this property

We loved this property, the views were beautiful (including watching sea turtles playing in the waves) and we used both the pool and hot tub as the weather was rainy. A good location for a day trip to the Volcano National Park.

Beautiful oceanfront home

We really enjoyed this home. It was big enough for our family of 6. Clean & well equipped. The home is in great condition & felt classy. The oceanfront deck, hot tub & pool were awesome.

Most relaxing getaway

We stayed here for two weeks. We were not ready to leave. Beautiful home. Beautiful view. The house is very clean and well stocked for cooking. Comfy furniture inside and out. The hot tub is a bonus. The pool was cool, but I was able to get in 3-4 times. Bring your binoculars. Whale playground just out back. The only problem-any rental we do from now on will pale in comparison.

Beautiful view

This home has a million dollar view with the pool oceanfront. You can see the neighboring homes but it’s not a noisy neighborhood at all. The home has most all the necessities you’d need for your stay. Beds were comfortable and showers were very good. There is the extra guest house where my 15 and 9 year old stayed and they thought it was great to get their own space. It’s quite a way from Hilo but the view and neighborhood is worth it.

Gorgeous location and property

Everything was as-advertised and the ocean front views were amazing! Check in was easy and the house was easy to navigate. The hot tub got alot of use! The only negative was that the pool light didn’t work, so effectively made the pool useless after sunset. Other than that, great experience!

The Hilo Shangrila was an amazing location. Getting up each day to have a cup of coffee outside, many times standing on the other side of the pool to watch the waves and take in the breathtaking sights. We were pleased to find that both bedrooms had air conditioning as the rooms get a little stuffy without. Overall, we loved the location and being something opposite of a resort environment (offering privacy and a true local experience). While we were there we saw a humpback whale, a family of dolphins and a family of sea turtles who were always present in the water below. This is an amazing location. The house is well equipped for those who like to cook.

We'll Be Back

This is our second stay, but certainly not our last. We have some very specific "wants" for our Hawaiian holiday. Single story, private pool, oceanfront, doesn't cost us an arm and a leg...and Hilo Shangri La provides all of this. It is a funky, Hawaiian beach house and we love it. Due to airline schedule changes we had to make numerous changes to our reservation and every interaction was positive and fun.

We explored the entire island during our stay and loved coming “home” each afternoon to Hilo Shangrila. We encourage you to stay here!

Paradise

We absolutely loved our stay at Hilo ShangriLa. Everything was as described. The home is very comfortable and well stocked. The weather was cooler and rainy for part of our stay, so we didn't make a lot of use of the pool, but the hot tub was perfect. Watching the waves by the pool was incredible. We saw several sea turtles riding the waves and the sunrises/sunsets are breathtaking. Communication was excellent. We saw some amazing things on the island, but justsitting on the patio watching the waves was a highlight of our vacation. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we had the opportunity to return.

Beautiful Ocean Views

Great outdoor spaces for swimming and relaxing. Lots of pool toys. Pool and hot tub were clean. Had all of the basic items you would need. Room AC was nice. Clean bedrooms and bathrooms. Ceiling fans and door and windows are a must. Best when there was a breeze. Small adjacent apartment was great for my parents. About 20 min. away from a store and gas. Propane grill was nicely clean and we used it every night. There were turtles just off shore day and night you could watch. The kids loved this!

Relaxing Stay

First impression wasn’t great as it was very warm when we walked in but once we got everything opened up it was great. The pool is fantastic and we enjoyed watching the turtles swim in the crashing waves. Also, the mattresses were fantastic. Always looking for a great night sleep on vacation!

Stunning location!!!

Absolutely stunning/beautiful location!!! Right on the ocean!! Very secluded as it is in a neighborhood so plan on being about a half hour out of Hilo. Very clean and organized house, beds were very comfortable, ceiling fans in every room. We also made use of the extra Ohano unit, which had an AC unit & fan. The primary bedroom and 2nd bedroom both had floor AC units which kept the rooms very comfortable. The pool is a salt water pool and very well maintained! We also were able to have a coconut from one of the palm trees. This was my son’s 13th birthday trip and this house allowed us to make so many memories!!!

The home is spacious, clean, comfortable, amply furnished and equipped. The ocean view is spectacular. We saw whales on three of the seven days we were there. A special treat was watching the sunrise at Maku'u Point, just a short walk away at the end of the street. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Love Hilo Shangrila

We absolutely loved our week at Hilo Shangrila! The waterfront location with breathtaking views and watching the sunrise every morning was amazing! The home is very comfortable and nicely decorated. It is on a dead end street in a very quiet neighborhood…we never heard anything but the ocean and the frogs at night. I would absolutely stay there again!!
