"Perfect spot. Homely, tidy and really well set up with everything we needed. So cosy with the fire going and with a beautiful view down to the lake. A stones throw to the waters edge (and the pub!).Fabulous!!"
"We read the reviews and were intrigued. We stayed in winter, and it is cold in Bothwell. It would have been much more inviting if the hosts had the heater running prior to our arrival, but once the property warmed up after a few minutes the shock of how cold it was faded away. We stayed in the 1837 cottage. The accommodation is rustic, eclectically furnished and decorated, and gives an appreciation of life in times gone by. If you are after elegant, refined and well finished accommodation this property is not for you, however if you enjoy history that you can touch and feel the cottage is adorable (we were the latter). Would definitely stay here again but you need to accept the accommodation for what it is - a lower class colonial piece of history."
"What a cool place to stay. If travelling to a remote mystical place isn't enough, step into this absolute comfort zone. Tucked away down a funny dirt road, this place is THE PLACE you want to arrive to. Space, fireplaces, ability to cut wood, go and entertain in the openness of the kitchen to those relaxing by the fireplace of a very generous lounge area. This is luxury after a day's travelling. Devine!"
"Rathmore was everything we had hoped for a tranquil weekend escape. We stayed in the Shearer’s Quarters, separate from the main homestead and very private, with delicious meals delivered by Cally - the lamb ragu was a favourite, highly recommended.
Both hosts, Richard and Cally, encouraged us to wander the historic property, which felt a little like stepping back in time to a more peaceful era. We even saw one of the dam’s resident platypus!
Cally’s local suggestions enhanced our day trip to Mount Field NP and the Gordon Dam. I only wish we could have stayed longer to take better advantage of the many hidden treasures along the route.
Our weekend was topped off by an impromptu tour of Rathmore House, a true beauty of a homestead and, despite the age, very much alive. Cally and Richard clearly love their home and sharing that joy with visitors."
