Norman Bay Kenora Stay

Nicely updated room renovations. Very clean and comfortable. Digital key punch room access was convenient. Tim Hortons a short walk.

It is a budget motel and in that category it is good. I didn’t read the fine print about self-check in so I wasn’t prepared to turn my cell phone on to check messages but as soon as I did there was a code sent to me for entry. The design of the motel is a little odd but it all worked out.

The beds 100 percent need to be replaced. The pattern of springs can be seen looking at the mattress, other than that the facility is in line with the cost.

I know that this was a "value" property but besides being that the major complaint's are (1) that the window AC was vented into the hallway. So if you turned the noisy AC off you roasted. The hallway was extremely hot. (2) The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms from conversations to "everything" else. We will sleep in our car before we stay at this property ever again.

Its okay but not again.

Its okay. Good location, comfy linens, but it was a spring mattress and were worn out, my back suffered. Was expecting a renovated hotel but its old, outdated and poorly maintained. The floor needs to be cleaned/swept thoroughly, its dusty and dirty especially on the corners. The curtains cover/over the AC whenever you close it, and u cant open. Sadly, its very over priced for the condition and quality of the hotel. I dont think ill stay there again.

The room looked clean and recently renovated. However, the covered hallway to get to the room had cobwebs and didn’t look so clean. The front door didn’t close properly (big gap). The shower door didn’t close completely. We were not provided with hand soap for the sink. There doesn’t seem to be staff on site. Having said that, we contacted the property manager after our stay and we’re told that all the issues mentioned above will be corrected. We walked in the neighbourhood and felt very safe.

Accommodations very basic. Had fridge, microwave and a/c. Did not like the fact that there is no one at reception. Had to speak by phone for information. Could not watch TV as it had an input error. There is an irritating green light blinking all night near the bathroom and getting to the room was like walking through a maze only to find that we had to lug up our suitcase and gear up a staircase. Not impressed!

We called the city to report this property. We’re a mature family with a child and have done a lot of travelling and know what taking a “chance” can reveal on a property. The city official with health and safety reported this property used to be a halfway house. The floors and walls are dilapidated, Black Mould seeping through paint. Mattress old with springs visible; painful to sleep on. Dirty linens. Towels so thin you can see through them. Rats rats rats all over the parking lot and outside front door! Spiders and bedbugs. Some sort of flying moth infestation?! Loud and smelled terrible. The pictures are NOT accurate. This place needs to be condemned AGAIN!

We stayed in room 9 and it was what we needed. It was clean, odour free, the bed was comfortable but softer than to my liking. The fridge was nice and cold. The microwave worked well. The water pressure was good and the hot water was hot. It was a little disappointing to discover that all exits/entrances didn't have code access necessitating walks from the far end of the parking lot/back end of the building. Emergency exits were alarmed with signage preventing near-access to the parking lot. Management, who we accidently met a couple of times were friendly and helpful. I'd suggest tea and de-caf coffee at the easy to use Keurig coffee maker, and also some signage on the drawer "hiding" the coffee. I was slightly annoyed that our room door did not latch easily - it needed a hard push to latch, putting our belongings at risk. The room-door code entry device is poorly lit, and the unlit numbers are difficult to see, until the first number is hit. The window curtains flapped because of the air conditioner fan and it would be nice to see some weights to place on it to prevent flapping. The air conditioner controls seemed to be unresponsive until I discovered a remote control for it. The walls were well constructed for sound and we never heard our neighbours or even if we had neighbours. A good stay inspite of these annoyances.

Building is locked and they provide a code to get in. Our room was upstairs (weird hallway walk to get there)and hot. Couldn't set the temperature. Small room and small bathroom. But it was clean.

Great for a one night stay. Close enough to view the marina. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. The manager was able to help with the heater. No issues. Would recommend for travellers and convenient being on the TransCanada Hwy.
