About this property
Kern River Willow Cabin Private Waterfront Cedar Hot Tub Fireplace Native Garden
Welcome to River Willow, our wonderful 1950's cabin on the beautiful Kern River in the quaint, residential neighborhood of Riverkern. 3 miles from Kernville. An idyllic setting perfect for couples or small groups. Property is 1 acre with river access, fenced front yard, surrounded by mountains & lush vegetation. Explore the area, sit on the deck, follow a sandy path to relax by the river & then continue the path to a private neighborhood beach for river swimming. As our guest you'll have the cabin and entire property to yourself.
Our classic, updated cabin's main floor has one bedroom with a queen bed and a small adjoining bedroom with a twin xl bed. The loft is accessed by a steeper stair/ladder with handrails on both sides & a fixed baby gate at the top. The loft has a full bed & a twin sofa bed. The cabin can accommodate up to 5 people comfortably. Main floor has a bathroom with a tub/shower and a separate toilet room. The second bathroom is between the 2 downstairs bedrooms and is a half bath. Please not: there's no bathroom in the loft.
Perched high on granite boulders with incredible western views of the rugged Greenhorn Mountains, you'll feel right at home in your California getaway. A lovely seasonal stream sometimes runs through the property during spring runoff (California weather dependent, please inquire). You can hear the Kern River from the cabin then walk the sandy path to your own slice of riverfront. Relax in the boulder patio or swing in the hammock & take in the serene landscape. On the covered deck, unwind with yoga or a book with coffee in the morning. Watch the sunset over the majestic peaks with a cocktail in the evening. Enjoy a BBQ on the patio under the oaks. When it's chilly outside, unwind with a board game in front of the cozy wood fireplace. The night sky gives way to stargazing and the calming sounds and scents of the southern Sierras.
Inside the cabin, you'll find it thoughtfully designed and furnished. It's carefully appointed for comfort and convenience. Plugin or unplug – the choice is yours. Enjoy the fully stocked kitchen with locally roasted ground coffee, back deck with binoculars and rocking chairs, curated reading library, outdoor essentials: backpack, life jackets, sand toys, beach chairs, blankets & towels.
Ask us about any of the following: Hiking trails, Fly fishing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Paddleboarding, Rafting, Rock climbing, Giant Sequoias, Isabella Lake, Kern Audubon Preserve, Spring Wildflower Blooms, Salmon Creek Falls – even a single chair lift ski resort less than a half-hour away - and so much more, await you all within a short distance. The area is home to an incredibly diverse natural environment with endless possibilities to explore. Have a quiet stay in Riverkern where you can walk to the General Store for basics, or drive a few minutes to Kernville to shop & get some dinner. Whether your visit calls for adventure or the quietude of a peaceful sanctuary, you'll find a very special place at River Willow Cabin.
Please note: We have a Nest security camera pointed at the driveway in order to ensure only the registered guests are on the property. We don't record audio, and we don't have any other cameras on the property.
Riverkern is a small, quaint residential neighborhood just a few miles upstream from downtown Kernville. Our cabin has cabins next door on both sides. It's a quiet neighborhood with paved, well-maintained streets, no need for any specialty vehicle. The speed limit is 25 MPH on the main street with no sidewalks, so street bicycling isn't recommended.
Riverkern itself has a General Store within short walking distance from the cabin. You can grab coffee & breakfast or sandwiches for lunch! The General Store is closed from Thanksgiving (November) to President's Day Weekend (February).
Because it's a small and quiet community, it's very important to respect others' property and our neighbors. Please be aware of private property and of keeping the noise down at night. We've never had a neighbor complaint - yay!
We're in a very high fire hazard area, so outdoor fires or smoking are never permitted. Use of the propane BBQ on the front deck and back deck propane chiminea is permitted at all times of the year.
Getting to restaurants, shopping and other local activities requires a short drive - 3 miles. The well-maintained, paved mountain road to town doesn't have a sidewalk or much of a shoulder for walking or bicycling - be aware!
PETS: Well-behaved and house-trained dogs are permitted with pre-approval, so please tell us about your pup (breed, size, etc). Please note that there is a $60 pet fee per stay. The fee is for up to 2 dogs maximum. No other animals are allowed without prior approval.
The mighty Kern River runs at the back of the property, and you can access it by walking down a sandy path from the back deck off the cabin. During spring runoff only, a small stream sometimes flows through the property (weather dependent, please inquire.)
For guests traveling with small children - there's a Graco Pack n Play with a fitted sheet, high chair, and bathroom sink faucet hose (for bathtub) for your use in the cabin. Outside we have sand toys & a variety of life jackets.
POLICIES: 1. Guest max for nightly rate is 5. Extra guest is $50 per night per guest up to 1 extra guest max. 2. The hosts communicated well, provided tons of information about the property and the local area, as well as some coupons. The cabin was beautiful, very clean and well appointed. Coffee was provided from a local brewer. Lots of things there that I didn't have to pack. We can't wait to come back!
This is our 2nd time staying at River Willow Cabin. My husband and I and our dog very much enjoy this location. Relaxing beside the river is so tranquil. Just what we needed. Also, enjoyed our day trips up into the Sequoia National Forest. Rob and Carol are wonderful hosts. Cabin has all the amenities you need. Can't wait until our next visit!
We experienced ultimate relaxation during our stay at the cabin. It had everything we could possibly need and more! The scenery was beautiful, activities abundant, and the cabin was cozy in every way! We definitely hope to return soon!
Me and my husband plus our Doberman boy had the best relaxing time there. The attention to details made all the diference. This is a very special location and I could stay there forever :)
Thank you guys for an amazing stay and for the hospitality.
Would definetly come back
Had the best experience at the River Willow cabin. It is a beautiful property and as nice - if not better - than described and shown in the listing pictures. From before your trip starts you're given access to their website/app that has ALL the info you need about the house and surrounding areas. We arrived later in the evening and the entire house was lit up which made us feel immediately comfortable and welcomed. The house is spotless - not a speck of dirt or grime anywhere. Including the outdoor areas - there are tons of seats and tables and little nooks to enjoy the views and not a cobweb to be found anywhere. We loved it, our kids had a blast and loved all the outdoor fun - we cannot wait to come back. Thank you so much to the hosts for such an incredible weekend away.
Very comfortable in every aspect. It was obvious that the hosts had put a great deal of thought into making our stay enjoyable, with amenities you would only find in a 5 star hotel. This will be a definite repeat!
Absolutely fabulous!!! The cabin and all of the amenities are absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately we had to leave early however we will definitley be back. Rob and Carol and also Beth (their assistant) went above and beyond. Thank you so much!
The property was perfect for my husband and I and our 2 big dogs. Lots of room for the dogs to roam around and explore a little. The house is fully supplied with all sorts of amenities. All you need to bring is your food and sunblock. Will definitely rebook this site again. Loved it!!
We stayed in August 2024, visiting from Indiana. The property is amazing! We swam in the river every day and spent the evenings cooking out, roasting marshmallows, and soaking in the hot tub. The hosts checked in with us to make sure we didn't need anything and even suggested additional swimming areas near by. Cabin had everything we needed, everything was good quality, and the beds were very comfortable. Overall a wonderful place to stay. We drove north to the Sequoias and it was a quick drive with beautiful lookouts along the way. Highly recommend this propery!
Thank you! What a marvelous retreat spot you have here. We have had the most perfect, relaxing, delightful stay and love everything about this place. It was the perfect choice for us. We love your style and taste. The art! All the carefully thought-through details, including the fenced-in front yard and deck, outdoor shower, and both beaches.
Kind regards and huge thanks,
Gina, Doug, and Tilly
The cabin is a great stay with all the features you’d hope for. The pictures don’t do it justice. But the location is a hidden gem for those interested in fishing. The “Bubbles Beach” location, about a 7 minute easy trail walk away is a perfect “honey hole” for trout. Easy and sandy beach access makes it convenient to reel in and land your fish but its location at the mouth of two converging rivers make it a perfect spot for trout to hang out and wait for food. We stayed there most of the time and didn’t even need to venture out looking for other spots along the river. Very private and peaceful location. Would love to return.
I've used Vrbo to find rentals for years. This is the first time the property owner had communicated with me around check in time to make sure everything was perfect and to assure us they are there to help. Both Carol and Rod were quick in response and extremely helpful with any questions I had. The property itself was breathtaking. The hot tub under the string lights made for a beautiful night. My favorite part was the seating by the river for early morning peace and quiet. I hope we can return again for our future kern river trips. Thank you Rod and Carol for hosting such a beautiful rental.
We booked this place last minute (a week before our wedding) as a mini-moon. We wanted somewhere nearby Sequoia National Park where we could bring our dog and this place ended up being a wonderful choice. We were rained in for most of our 3 night stay so we never made it to the national park but it was very relaxing lounging around the house, doing jigsaw puzzles by a roaring fire and relaxing in the hot tub. There's not much to the town nearby, maybe a half dozen stores and restaurants each, and most didn't even open until Thursday, which was unfortunate because we showed up on a Tuesday and left on a Friday. I'm guessing that's part due to us coming in March, but who knows. If we make another go at the park, I'd be willing to come back, I'd just make sure to plan to cook my own food for the stay.
My family and I truly enjoyed our stay at River Willow. The home is clean, well organized and equipped. Everything is well maintained throughout the inside and outside of home. Description of home is very accurate. Super cute place for a relaxing vacation.
This was breathe taking place to stay!! We can say enough how amazing this stay was! The hosts have everything you would need! Clean close to the town for groceries and restaurants and antique shopping! We just had the most amazing time! Thank u for all the effort you all have put into to making our family trip one for the books!!!
Well stocked and comfortable/cozy cabin right on the river. We loved listening to the sound of the rushing water and the views of the hills beyond are gorgeous! Definitely would recommend this place and would stay there again!
A beautiful property in a beautiful spot. The owners were easy to communicate with and there were so many thoughtful touches around the property. This place, and Kernville in general, were definitely a highlight of our trip!
The property was decorated with mid century cabin charm inside and outside the garden area had distinct seating spaces to enjoy whether you wanted to dine alfresco, take a siesta in the hammock or chill on the patio listening to the river flow. All the amenities were high quality and plentiful. I wish we could have the bed shipped home it was so comfortable. I would stay there again without hesitation.
Absolutely fantastic cabin on the Kern River! The cabin is beautiful decorated and the furnishings were very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with quality cookware and dinnerware. The outside of the cabin was even nicer. Both the front barbeque area, with the native garden, and the back porch were peaceful and relaxing. A short walk from the cabin and we were in the river. The owners provided lots of water equipment for our use. We felt like we were away from it all, yet the proximity to Kernville and Lake Isabella was very convenient. Our stay was rejuvenating and we hope to stay here again.
This home and property is amazing. Had a great time getting away from the city and enjoying the great outdoors. The property was perfect for us and our 2 daughters and two dogs. Very welcoming and inviting.
Thank you so much!
Hope to come back again soon. 😊
