Covid blown out of proportion! False advertisement
Well well, Travelling a lot during covid you experience quiet something but nothing takes the prices as this hotel. First of all they advertise that their spa is fully open again- well it’s open but only one sauna I function - no showers - and you only get a 20 minute time slot to manage both spa and pool !! Same with restaurant - where you in advance have to book a table for breakfast and dinner, and if you arrive like us mid afternoon - there’s only the really inconvenient time slots available. We stayed in this hotel many times before and was always very happy about all , but they have taken covid to an unpresidented level that has no ground in recommendations nor legislation. To narrow it down, all that used to be a commodity is gone - all that you pay is still fully functional.

Dear Camilla, thank you very much for your feedback. We regret that you were not satisfied with your stay this time. In fact, 2 saunas and our tepidarium were open at this point. In order to enable all our guests to use the wellness area in compliance with the measures, a reservation is necessary for the pool and separately for the saunas. If available, multiple use per day is also possible. In order to avoid our guests waiting for breakfast due to the currently reduced number of seats, a reservation was also necessary here. We hope for your understanding that we will adhere to the guidelines in order to be able to continue to be there for our guests and we would like to see you again soon. Great hotel. Far enough from the city to be quiet and peaceful, but only 10-15 minutes drive to city center. Staff was excellent, and the hotel and rooms were clean. I would highly recommend and would stay here again for my next visit to Kiel.

Great Hotel

My Trip to Kiel and Hotel Birke
The hotel had some construction work outside which looked off putting , however once inside the atmosphere was once of welcome and friendliness. The Bathrooms were so clean and bedrooms so comfortable. At breakfast there was such a relaxing atmosphere and the shuttle service was invaluable for local business meetings.

A lovely pre-Christmas weekend stay
The hotel has most pleasant bedrooms which are comfortable and very well equipped, although the door mechanisms can be tricky to operate. The staff are friendly and helpful and fully aware of the door problem. Breakfast was excellent with both hot and cold buffet provided in a spacious and dining room decorated for Christmas. We also took lunch there on arrival and that too was very good. The pool was nice although a little cool but the sauna and steam room were excellent. The hotel has easy bus access to Kiel and is located in a quiet suburb.

Excellent beds, excellent restaurant
We intended this to just be an overnight stop on our way north, but we enjoyed the stay so much that we will return. We got an upgraded room and it was excellent, roomy, and clean. They were very pet friendly as well, and weren't just one of those places that say they are pet friendly but really aren't. It was farther from the waterway than we expected, but that turned out to be a bonus as the port was more industrial than expected. We found good walks locally for our pets. The restaurant was most excellent as well. We had an amazing dinner of fine fresh local seafood. We will be back.

Nice hotel in Kiel with a lot of parking space
I have used this hotel for several times now for an over night stay before we use the ferry Kiel-Oslo with our 4 person family. The rooms were always very nice and quite big. I can totally recommend it. There are hotels in the world with a fancier breakfast though.

No real wow factor
Not quite the wow factor we expected. Hotel is quite old fashioned no double beds only singles pushed together with single bedding & uncomfortable pillows. Ill fitting curtains with 5 a.m wake up as the room lit up. No hospitality tray. The restaurant had a nice ambience serveing a good evening meal but didn't promote the fish night to us. The wine we ordered was not available as advertised causing confusion with the staff. The Gardens & grounds are well maintained & pretty. The Spa was very nice but be prepared as clothing is optional. Despite informing them it was our special anniversary unfortunately we were not made to feel special. The hotel is on many levels & quite hard to find your way around.

Pleasant but NO wow factor
Booked to stay for a special anniversary celebration -first room small & stuffy so paid to upgrade.Walls covered in creamy old fashioned wallpaper curtains ill fitting allowing light to wake you up at 5 a.m. Despite requesting a double bed and informing them it was a special occasion no effort was made to make us feel special.Beds are singles pushed together with single bedding & single duvets.No hospitality tray. Building is confusing &disjointed on lots of levels very easy to get lost in. Spa was very nice - be prepared clothing is optional.We ate one meal spoiled by the fact they offered a French wine but When ordered staff were totally confused tried to sell us wine for about 3 times the price of the offer.All in all having read the reviews beforehand we were left feeling a little deflated It's publicity appears to promote 'The Family Owners' being hands on. We never saw anybody only young staff. Maybe the family were on holiday!

Easy to get to on No.31 bus from town!
Stayed pre-cruise leaving from Keil. It is a long way out from town but the No.31 bus takes you from the railway station almost to the hotel door in 15 minutes at a very reasonable 2.50€! Restaurant is very good and staff friendly. Didn't get a double bed though. Spa is useful but beware the naked sauna users.

Best of Both Worlds
We enjoyed our stay. The hotel combines the quaintness and charm of a small hotel with the amenities and features of "fancy" hotels. We were impressed with the spa/fitness/wellness features. The food and service was outstanding (we had dinner and the included breakfast). The location is ideal if you want to get away from it all. We would stay again.

Very nice hotel, but forget about working online.
It is a nice hotel with a decent restaurant. The breakfast was one of the best I have had. The hotel was in general very well kept. The only thing we will complain about is that the internet speed was so low that any work involving internet access was not possible. And that is a blocker for us.

Really nice area, and generally speaking a nice hotel. A few complaints though, I am a guy of 1.9 meters and I couldn't really fit into the bed lying straight. The deskchair there was also a narrow fit for some reason. Last, but not least, I had a room facing into the courtyard on a basement level, which meant that everybody who was in the courtyard or looking into the courtyard from the rest of the hotel could look directly into my room when my curtains were not closed. All in all nice stay, very nice breakfast, nice room even with a couch etc.

Easy parking and still close enough to downtown
I picked this hotel because it was clear from the online description there was free parking. It was a bit further from CAU, the university I was visiting, than I would have preferred but parking rental cars in cities always makes me nervous. I was completely satisfied with my stay at Birke. Very nice all around and a fantastic breakfast.

Perfect Place to Prep...
We stayed here for anight before a wedding in a surrounding town. The staff was great, the food for dinner and breakfast were incredible and we were able to request a late check out so that we could go do some sight seeing and then clean up and change before the wedding late in the afternoon. The rooms in the newer building seem to be the only rooms with AC, but since we were on that side of the property it worked out great for us on that warm July evening. The chef's special for dinner was a local catch and the on-site dining establishment takes pride in serving local foods - dinner was slow and the wine amazing, it truly made for an incredible start to a wedding weekend.

The hotel looks like it has been recently refurbished. Nicely done--modern, but relaxed and retaining the character of the building. The rooms are nice, clean. We no longer smoke, but appreciate the willingness of the hotel to make smokers feel welcome--the bar offers cigars for those who indulge, and has a cozy, jazzy atmosphere (but not smoky!). The pool and sauna looked inviting although it was too late for me to care when we arrived. Breakfast was fantastic--everything you might want of a european buffet breakfast, complete with the lovely crusty bread I was craving. The service was excellent. Professional, friendly without being cloying. I thought we got a great bargain. I'm afraid when the hotel is even more popular it will be out of our reach.

The hotel is rather old and run down. Staff is trying to compensate for this with professional and friendly service but this can hardly compensate antiquated elevators and shabby rooms. Everything in the hotel smells the '60s
