The Salty Soul is a cozy, bright, and cheerfully decorated cottage in the heart of the Outer Banks. Nestled between the highway (US 158) and beach road (NC 12) in Kill Devil Hills at MP 10, it is conveniently located to restaurants, shopping, mini golf, and more. Our cottage even backs up to Kill Devil Grill--one of the best restaurants on the beach!

Getting to the beach is easy with two nearby accesses...one at Lake Drive a little north, and a parking access at Eighth Street just a little south (still walkable, though). Or walk a footpath north of the cottage... about a 3 minute walk.

The Salty Soul is perfect for a couples retreat, small family, or a quiet friends weekend. The lower level (and entry area) of the cottage has a convenient heated and cooled room with washer and dryer, utility sink, extra refrigerator, and a private toilet. Upstairs features an open living room with a cozy deck overlooking a large fenced in backyard, kitchen & dining area, as well as a large ensuite bedroom that has a king size bed and a bathroom with double sinks, toilet, and a tub shower combo.

A queen size bed in a spacious room is on the top floor. Working space is available with desk and chair. This bedroom has a large full bathroom. Off this 2nd bedroom is a walk-through closet leading to the 3rd room that has the full size bed in it and a nightstand with light. Great for the snorer in the family or someone wanting privacy. This small quaint room is best suited for children or 1 adult.
Note: This 3rd room has no windows and accesses the bathroom through the 2nd bedroom.

The outdoor space is spacious under the house, on the back deck, or in the fenced in yard area. You can enjoy eating outside, playing corn hole, or grilling out on the gas grill. After a long day at the beach, you can rinse off in the outdoor shower and relax by the fire pit with a cold drink in hand!

Things to note:
- You must be 26 or older to rent the home
- We have irrigation in the front and back yard, so please do not park on the grass
- We DO NOT allow pets, so please do not ask or bring one to the cottage
- Access is given via a key box in the outdoor shower
- Property backs up to a small local restaurant's parking lot, but it closes early--just worth a mention
- Smart Roku TV’s in living room, king bedroom and queen bedroom. You must use your own logins, and are all set to guest mode, No Cable available
- Wireless internet provided, but speed cannot be guaranteed as we live on an island and it can sometimes be intermittent
- Linens and towels are provided
- Beach Towels are not provided, so you will need to bring your own
- We do not offer beach equipment, but we are a few steps away from Ocean Atlantic Rentals and they have everything you may need for your stay
- Property has outdoor ONLY security cameras under carport and on back deck

A Great Family Getaway Convenient to Beach, Restaurants. Shopping & Attractions

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Salty Soul. It was convenient to everything in a nice neighborhood. We were within walking distance of restaurants and the beach. Our daughter snd her friend moved the upstairs area that gave them private space as young adults. It was nicely furnished. We wanted a place that we could enjoy and feel comfortable in. The owner pays attention to details, takes pride in providing a nice place and wants guests to enjoy their stay.

Great October weekend

Our family booked a last minute OBX trip and the Salty Soul was the perfect place to stay. The house was very clean and well kept. Kids loved the backyard for kicking the soccer ball. Perfect location for us as we did activities north of Nags Head and on Roanoke.

A Perfect Beach Getaway!

Annual Vacation Spot

This is my second time booking the Salty Soul and it is the perfect house for my family’s vacation. You have 2 beach access points within walking distance. Many bars, restaurants, and store within walking distance as well. The neighborhood is quiet and safe and the house is cozy and has everything you need from rooms to balcony’s. The house is super clean, the beds are comfy, and there is plenty of space.

Perfect House, Perfect Location!

The property was clean and felt new. The house had everything you needed for a weeks stay at the OBX. It was a very short walk to the beach and easy to carry your gear there. It is close to the museums, Bodie Lighthouse and short drive to Duck and Corolla. Plenty of stuff to do. We would definitely stay here again!

Easy walking distance to the beach and super clean!

We stayed here with our young family and it was the perfect location. Close for little legs to walk to the beach and also close to a grocery store and some non-beach activities in the area. My kids loved the fenced in yard. The best part of this property was how clean it was. I hate renting at the beach normally because beach homes are often run down and dirty but this place was very clean and well maintained!

For our family this home was absolutely perfect! The house was lovely, very clean. However, we were there for 4 days and only 2 dishwasher tabs were available for us to use. I have never come across that before. Also we were required to unload the dishwasher before leaving. Again, I had not come across that either. Every other place I have rented, we load the dishwasher, turn it on and leave. Those are small issues that can and should be addressed. Everything else was lovely; easy access to the ocean. It stormed while we were there, I was there had been games &/or playing cards to pass the time, but we were warm and safe inside.

Best home on the Outer Banks!

I can’t say enough great things about this house. Everything was beautifully appointed and made you feel like you could be in your own home. So many amenities were provided for comfort, cooking, and activities. Kids loved playing the back yard. The location was perfect and many choices for dining, shopping, attractions, and beach access were so close by. I hope we can come back and stay longer next time. The owner’s communication was top notch. If you are coming to the OBX, you need to book this property!

We had an amazing time at Debra's vacation home! From the moment I booked the rental through the day I messaged the cleaning staff of our departure- time we had nothing but the BEST experience. The house is so new and clean! Lots of room for our two families (4 adults and 2 children) to spread out. Spending every night on the back deck and every morning with coffee there was just so relaxing! The close walk to the beach access is just ideal with smaller kids. Even hurricane Debbie that passed through while we were there did not dampen the amazing time we had. It was part of my family's first time to OBX (our sixth) and they were just blown away! Thanks so much Debra for being a wonderful host throughout all of our vacationing time!!

Perfect Family Getaway!

This property was perfect for my wife and our 3 kids (6, 4, 2). We were astonished at how clean the property was! The home is beautifully updated and modern with a private master wing off the kitchen with its own deck and rocking chairs. The large driveway and covered seating area under the home were perfect for games and relaxing away from the afternoon sun while the fenced in backyard with its pristine grass provided us with the ideal area for fun with the kids. The property managers, Nell & her husband, were fantastic at communicating and were able to respond to all of our questions and needs throughout our stay. We will definitely be coming back to The Salty Soul!

The perfect early season getaway

The Salty Soul will be “our” OBX home for as long as the hosts are willing to have us. (This is already our second visit!) It’s a beautiful home inside and out, close to the beach, shopping, and dining, and the perfect size for our family. We’ve done the “ginormous beach house with 5 families” thing and prefer this situation. The hosts are incredibly kind and responsive, and it’s a joy to care for their home for a few days while it cares for us. Do we like The Salty Soul? NO. WE LOVE IT. And we’re already planning our next visit.

Good Vacation Rental

Overall, The Salty Soul was a good short, weekend rental. The house was modern and decorated well. The location was perfect. The house was not visibly dirty, but it was obvious the floors were not mopped prior to our arrival because our feet were very dirty all weekend if barefoot. Also, one of the upstairs smoke alarms was open and didn’t have a battery inside- this is a safety concern for guests. The third bedroom size was misleading from pictures. It is a very small room/closet with a double bed. It would be a great option for children, but a challenge for two adults. The hostess was made aware of these concerns. Check in and check out went smoothly. We enjoyed our weekend here.
