Relaxing getaway
We loved our stay at Fred’s property. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate enough for us to enjoy the water, but the views and cozy cottage provided a relaxing time away nonetheless. Location was great — off the beaten path but still a quick drive to town.

Tucked Away Gem!
Well-appointed, adorable home located on a BEAUTIFUL piece of property on the water in the Northern Neck area (Kilmarnock). Easy check-in, easy communication with the owner/property manager, clean and bright. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and hope to come back again in the near future.

Great Place to Stay
Very clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. Such a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Sitting on the deck overlooking the water was just what the doctor ordered! Fred and Karen are outstanding hosts. Highly recommend their place!

What a great place for a long weekend in Kilmarnock. Cottage was darling, cozy and cute and cleanliness was superb! Definitely a winner!!! Can’t wait to return.

Deck of tranquility
Despite the apartment being above a garage, it was one of the most spacious vacation rentals we have ever been in so it truly felt like a home away from home. The deck is just above the river where we watched blue herons and woodpeckers. The kitchen was well-equipped and a supermarket nearby. King bed, plenty of towels, wifi and streaming tv. Within 15 minutes of the shopping area, we did it all: antiquing, dining, walking. We drove to Windmill cove and the nature preserve to see some pristine beaches. We had dinner in Irvington at The Office for our anniversary dinner. Highly recommend it. We went to the cidery and vineyard. But above all, we enjoyed relaxing on the deck most of all. It was tranquil, and a wonderful getaway. It isn't far from Richmond yet it felt like another world. Fred was always in reach and was kind enough to offer earlier check in and later check out. Lovely stay all in all.

Peaceful, Tranquil Get-a-Way
We went for a few days to recover from an unexpected health issue and this was the perfect place. We took our own food and the kitchen was well stocked. We didn't go out at all...just enjoyed the beautiful view, played cards, binged our shows, fished and rested. It was lovely. Thank you to our wonderful hosts. Hope to return again sometime.

Hidden Gem
Highly recommend! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property. It was very clean with all of the comforts of home. Sitting on the deck overlooking the water, listening to the sounds of nature was so peaceful. This home is tucked away and makes you feel like you’re in the country but it’s only 5 minutes from town. There are so many cute little shops and restaurants in town to enjoy. The homeowners are fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. We will definitely be back!

Lovely time
This is indeed a cottage on top of the stand alone garage next to the house where the hosts live. It worked out fine for us. It was very peaceful and quiet and the apartment fully stocked so we could cook. The hosts were approachable, kind and generous. Peaceful, rural, chilling out, comfortable lodging and kind hosts (who we barely saw so privacy was not an issue) are all the positives we experienced. Will definitely come again.

Lovely little mermaid cottage
We very much enjoyed our weekend at this lovely cottage! The place was super cute with great mermaid decor and very clean. It truly felt like an escape from daily life! The deck offered a relaxing view of the cove. We also enjoyed meeting Fred, the owner, who was quite hospitable. Would highly recommend!

A Truly Wonderful Stay
My girlfriend and I stayed at Fred's beautiful waterfront cottage for an extended weekend and could not say more nice things about the entire experience. Kayaking the whole weekend, spending time in the small towns in the surrounding area, and enjoying the views were only made better by the hospitality provided by Fred and his wife. They were both friendly, and Fred was extremely attentive in making sure that we felt comfortable and that everything in the cottage was in order. We are looking forward to another stay!

Lovely spot on the river...
Birds singing, herons flying and landing, boats puttering by - as we sipped, snacked, read, talked... Well appointed kitchen. Everything felt like it was "new." Nicely decorated. Although next to the owner's home, they respected our privacy.

A smidge of Heaven on Pittman's Cove
We hopped out of the car and the air changed. A lovely breeze; egrets and osprey across the creek and a welcoming, perfectly appointed cottage just waiting for us to enjoy. The Burke's were ever attendant and wanted for us exectly what we found - a place for mermaids to find rest.

Anniversary weekend getaway
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with view of the water ...this is the place for you! To be honest I was a little concerned the property was next to the main residence. Once we arrived my worries were put to rest, the accommodations were completely separate from house and it felt very private. Inside it was beautifully decorated and in pristine condition. Our only problem, our weekend went to quickly. Fred was very responsive and timely when we had questions. He and his wife were excellent hosts. Home is just minutes from the cute little town with lots of dinning options and grocery stores. We would stay again if in the area. Win all the way around!!!

The second floor loft is a great gem. Water front with full views from the deck. Everything you could need, even the little things like ice in the freezer. Hosts were friendly and attentive.

Away from it all and yet so close to town!
The property was even better than imagined. The decor is on point! It’s so quiet and relaxing. The view from the deck is wonderful. And the fish at the end of the pier…. You have to check that out at night time. So cool! The town of Kilmarnock is literally right down the road. Just from our pictures, we already have a few friends wanting info about staying here.

Absolutely Lovely Stay I’m the Northern Neck!
Karefree was the perfect home away from home and had everything we could have hoped for! The cottage was beautifully decorated and spotless! The views from the deck were amazing and the perfect spot for catching a glimpse of passing Blue Heron or watching the giant fish swim under the lit dock at night. Fred and Karen were the most gracious hosts and were there to answer all of our questions or point us to the fun hotspots around town! Definitely recommend Karefree for your next Bay getaway!!!

Pretty, Peaceful Property with Access to Lots
We stayed here as part of a loop around the Chesapeake Bay. The property was beautiful - even more so than the photos. It was very peaceful and we were able to relax while being able to get to town and parks within a short drive. The hosts were very friendly but allowed us to relax and enjoy. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed for two nights and it was perfect! All of the necessities were provided like soap, paper towels, salt and pepper, there were even more trash bags in the pantry. Check in and out was super easy, as well as Fred and Karen being super kind to us throughout our stay. Any questions we had were answered very quickly and the view from the deck is beautiful!!

Beautiful, relaxing getaway!
The property was perfect for a romantic getaway. everything was as advertised, and the location is perfect! Fred and Karen were such gracious hosts, and even went the extra mile (literally!) to meet us after we'd accidentally left some bags at the house. Comfortable, clean, and relaxing setting, and convenient to shops and restaurants. Being able to have our boat there really added to the experience! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
