Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

8/10 Good

"The majestic old hotel might be dated to some, but there is a lot of character on show. The staff were excellent, even during storm Boelo when there were power issues and access difficulties with fallen trees. They quietly put on free tea and coffee for stranded guests waiting for the road to reopen. Evening meal was excellent, fish and chips excellent again. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, lots of good options, fresh scrambled egg, but sausages let it down as none of us could determine any flavour to them. Bedrooms in the garden wing are dated, but great if you want a bath. Beds as always were massive and gave excellent support."

Tom's Place - a bungalow that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

8/10 Good

"A spotlessly clean very well appointed bungalow. Lovely bathroom and great to have a wood burner. It's located in a very quiet cul de sac which, if I'm honest, let's the property down. Some of the neighbouring properties were a little run down cosmetically. Don't be put off. There were no problems whatsoever during our week's holiday with any neighbours or the on street parking. The property is very well located for walking down into town (there is a short length of hill to climb to return) and a medium sized Tesco is only 5 minutes walk through the housing estate. Similarly, to the rear of the property, further up the hill, in there is a lovely wood within 5 minutes walk if you're a dog owner as we are. On that point, the garden is very secure. The bungalow has been very nicely refurbished and has everything you might need other than perhaps a few more pans and utensils if you enjoy cooking. The internet signal was a bit patchy on occasions. Nice TV with several streaming channels. We had a small problem with the shower on the first day, and the host couldn't have been more helpful. Overall a lovely property and ideal for a restful break or as a base for exploring Galloway."

10/10 Excellent

"A lovely place to stay. It was clean, warm and comfortable. The beds were very comfy with lovely bedding. Alan was very friendly and helpful. We were there for 3 nights from 10th January, a few businesses were still closed for winter but there was enough open for our short stay. The welcome pack was a really nice touch. I can imagine that the outside space will be fantastic in the warmer weather. We used the hot tub which was great."
