"Truly, a five star experience that went above and beyond expectations because of Ranger John! He is an expert level two ranger; has deep knowledge of the nature and history of the land is completely unparalleled! There are many times where he was able to see animals that no one else could see because of his 40 years of experience in the bush. On one of the game drives, he smelled a carcass, and we went to explore the carcass and subsequently which led us to who hidden lions that were finished feasting on the carcass! If John had not been in tune with the sights, sounds, smells of the animals in the land, we would not have been able to see these lions!! In addition, John had shared his excellent knowledge history of politics within the region, which was extremely eye-opening! He is a renaissance man. Truly, I wish I could take John with me as a guide all throughout Africa.
The food was 7/10, service in the restaurant was 8/10, the rooms itself were 8/10, but ranger John was 100/10 and truly made this an unforgettable experience."
"Amazing stay we had. The service, the room, the view, everything is wow. I love the garden, it is so good.
The Service, I think, is the best one I've experienced so far. The staff even washed my car when I parked there. WOW
Thank you very much, Hitgeheim Country Lodge. I will be back. "
"We enjoyed our air conditioned room since the weather was over 90 degrees farenheit. The staff were friendly and nice. We had a quiet room. We chose the location because it is within 40 minutes of Addo elephant park, but road construction turned that into over an hour—not their fault. "
"We arrived rather late after a long drive from Cape Town, and were dismayed to find that the buzz boxes weren’t working. Thankfully we followed in a truck and they could hear the honk at the closer gate. The receptionist was very nice. The lodge that we stayed in was spacious but the floors were dirty and the bathtub needed to be run a while to get past the dirt in the pipes. Be aware that they don’t have dinner options, regardless of the first picture, and town is about 15 min away and restaurants close early. We ended up with road snacks for dinner. Breakfast was good and filling with a great view of the giraffes. Wish I would have sent a message to the hotel about our arrival and food options ahead of time. "
"We felt the on site restaurant could have offered more selection especially on starters one of which stayed the same for 3 nights and the other was a soup which did change but it wasn't exactly exciting. There are not many other restaurant choices in the area. "
"Fantastic place. Great home-cooked food cooked and served in a home-style atmosphere by the staff on a deck with amazing views. Would highly recommend as a base for exploring Addo. The property also has giraffes and sheep, both of which walked directly past our room!"
