Classic Japanese ryokan experience. Most outstanding Japanese breakfast ever!!! Succulent mackerel. Heavenly rice. And the most delicious homemade miso soup with fresh mushrooms and daikon. Perfect way to start a vacation on our first day.
Nice home feeling with friendly host and staff. Very helpful. Breakfast included is very good. Only few minutes walk to misotenjin-mae tram stop. Hidden coin laundry around the corner. Hotel is highly recommended for budget travellers.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
I had never tried a Japanese style ryokan and sleeping on a futon so I tried it at this establishment. Its not for everyone but I slept okay. The room was clean and had the basics.
It's a quiet area within a short walk to buses, trams, and a JR line but is about 20-30 mins from Kumamoto station (if you catch the right train). It just depends on your itinerary if you would like to stay here or not. They do have parking spaces if you are driving.
I would also recommend using chari chari bike service if you want to bike close by as there is a parking space right in front of the ryokan.
Simple and good.
Room was clean. Location is decent.
Some considerations:
You’d have to carry your luggage up to the second or third floor.
If you are 180cm or taller, the shower would be too small for you.
Nothing particularly exceptional but nothing bad either. Good value place.

Overall ok
It was overall a happy stay. Owner of the place was very nice and helpful. The room was very spacious. Breakfast was ok. Parking cost 600 yen, not sure if it’s for each stay or just overnight. We stayed one night only. There were a few small flies flying around the whole night (we weren’t able to catch them before falling sleep). Walkable distance to the tram station. Quite a few restaurants around the place.
We stayed on the ground floor. The bathroom wall could be cleaner as the wall is full of black moulds all the way from the sink up to the ceiling, and overall the ceiling. Kids and I found that quite disgusting. The bathtub sealant was full of mould too. These could be fixed easily I’m sure.
Stayed one night in Kumamoto to visit a couple of sights and wanted to have a feel of a Tamari style room since it was the first time for me in Japan. Host was very welcoming and easy to talk too. Had a great time, loved the breakfast. Emphasis though on the Ryokan "like" of the title. I can't say it's an actual Ryokan, as I'm imagining the full Ryokan experience. I went for the Tamari experience + Breakfast.
This inn offered everything I needed: Personable, friendly & attentive staff, comfortable clean room with spacious bathroom & bathtub, comfortable bed, short walk to the trolley, delicious/healthy homemade breakfast.
Il y avait très peu de restaurants intéressants à distance à pied de cet hébergement. Il m’a fallu prendre le tramway et me rendre au centre ville (15-20 min) pour le repas du soir. C’est vraiment le seul inconvénient!
