Second time staying at The General and second time great experience. The hotel location is superb - central so you can explore everything on foot, but also slightly off main tourist roads. The hotel itself is a very cosy boutique hotel that takes great care of all the details and great experience. Also, we really enjoyed their food recommendation map. Would love to come back one day!

Whilst it’s slightly out of town centre, it is within walking distance of a number of attractions, and close to the subway. We used the subway a lot, and got the direct Hankyu line to Osaka an couple of times. Enjoyed the breakfast, and the complementary food etc in the lounge. I cam highly recommend it

Good location. Beautiful rooms at a great price. We loved the lounge, where drinks and snacks are served all day. So nice to relax there after a long day. The only thing we didn’t love was that although the windows were large and let in light, the views are blocked. Other than that, we love this place.

The lounge is great with free snacks and drinks and games. The breakfast was also quite good. The staff was nice as well. Our room didn't have a view, but was spacious with a nice bathroom. It's a ten minute drive from the train station, lots of good restaurants close by.

Incredible hotel, staff, and accommodations. The location is a hidden gem nearby so many restaurants where you don’t meet reservations just walk and you’ll find a great place to eat. We did not opt for breakfast as we wanted to explore the area. They have complimentary tea, coffee, and desserts in the lounge as well as wine and beer for a happy hour style. Rainfall showers with toiletries provided and the most comfortable beds to rest and recover from. Would have loved to stay longer but saving this for next time.

We loved the location, as it was only a 10 minute walk from the train station. The breakfast and happy hour were great! The staff were very helpful and assisted us with transportation to the airport. The only thing that can be improved on, our bathroom had a musty smell and we noticed it was coming from the sink, so some better ventilation would be a great addition as it felt a bit stuffy in the room and bathroom.

The General Kyoto Shijo is the best hotel! This is my second time staying there and it did not disappoint. It is very clean, the staff is friendly and it is close to Nishiki market and lots of other amazing sites in Kyoto.
