Such a unique experience and so glad I made the trip! Staff wonderful everyone of them. Breakfast was good. The village/hamlet itself has history.
My cottage was simple quiet and exactly what I was looking for. Within a short drive to fajagrande the landscape is out of this world
We stayed three nights at Aldeia de Cuada in mid-October. The atmosphere and vibe of this restored old village is calm and exactly what we wanted. The valley surrounding the village is full of lush vegetation and waterfalls and was a great home base to visit Flores. For $10 Euros/morning you can start the day off with the best breakfast and go exploring. Their pool is heated, you can take old trails to surrounding villages and the must see Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro is right around the corner. We booked our time on Flores based on their available dates and are so glad we did.
Very good restaurant on site, there are not a lot on the island, especially during the off season. Within one hour walking distance to Faja Grande, Fajazinha or the falls at Ribeira Grande. About 25 minutes drive from the airport.
We had a very pleasant stay. The house looked amazing, the staff was very welcoming and friendly and the bed very good. Can’t find any complaints! Great place to stay
An unusual hotel consisting of small houses that constitute what was originally an abandoned village. It is a true delight, we had a well equipped kitchen (enjoy making our own breakfast) and a beautiful small private patio surrounded by flowers. The room was very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The on site restaurant is the best on the west coast. The pool is a good size and wonderfully warm. A great base for exploring the island, when we return to Flores we will stay here again 100%
Such a unique property! It was as if time stood still! We stayed in one of the restored, fully equipped 300 year old cottages. Staff is super friendly and helpful with recommendations and reservations, and the restaurant on site is outstanding (definitely make a reservation!). Saw one of the most amazing sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine on our patio.
What a magical place to stay! Lena, André and staff went above and beyond to recommend hikes, restaurants (during the off-season) and carried our heavy luggage through cobblestone walkways all the way to our charming little home. We loved the ambiance, ocean and mountain views and the whole feel of the grounds. Friendly mini horses and cows entertained us on our walks to and from the parking area. We were even left a welcome gift for our anniversary. If we are ever in Flores again, we will stay here!
There are a few options for hotels on the island but I would choose Aldeia da Cuada every time. The stone cottages are beautiful, functional and sweet. You feel like you are living in a different era, and you can be completely in your own world there. The restaurant is very good, it has sort of a clubhouse feel to it. Though you have your own little house with kitchenette, you don’t have to lift a finger as housekeeping will tidy and clean everything for you if you choose. The staff was very helpful and kind, and everyone spoke English. We had our own garden, surrounded by stone walls and overlooking the sea on one side, the hotel cottages and the mountain with its waterfalls on the other. I highly recommend this place if you find yourself on Flores island.
Positives:
- the staff were all so friendly and helpful. They brought our bags to our house so we didn’t have to carry them across the uneven path
- the village and houses are so cute! They are quite unique accommodation
- all of the beds are very comfortable (firm) and extra blankets are provided if needed
- very quiet! You could easily sleep with the windows open and sleep undisturbed
Negatives:
- the double beds are small. This is common for this region but still uncomfortable if you are large
- several maintence issues, like the dishwasher was broken and flooded and the cleanliness in the corners etc was not the best (they are old so that doesn’t help)
- we had no basics like salt, coffee, or cooking oil (this was provided at every other place we have stayed like this). They did leave 4 tea bags and have free coffee and tea in the office 24/7
- the house was so cold! We tried to start a fire several times but the wood was so wet that it wouldn’t stay lit and they old provided 3 small heaters for a huge house. We were all very cold.
O lugar é lindo e sentir fazer oarte da historia nestas casas originais é muito bom. A estadia correu muito bem! So foi pena termos perdido uma noite nesta aldeia devido ao mau tempo e os boos terem sido cancelados.
É para voltar!
