Home Away from Home.

Welcome to the Pickled Pigeon Cottage built in 1881 and named after the New Zealand Bird of the Year, the Wood Pigeon. The birds are known to eat red berries which intoxicate them and literally gets them pickled! We have two resident Wood Pigeons who visit regularly in the front of the garden. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, lounge room, BBQ area and outdoor decking area to have sundowners and view the beautiful garden and scenery. The cottage is an easy 200 metre walk to cafes, restaurants, supermarket, Museum and other shops of interest.

There are lots of things to do in and around Lawrence. It was the first Gold Rush town in New Zealand and walking around Gabriel's Gully is a great way to get the sense of history here. There is a great golf course and of course fishing, nature walks and biking the Otago Trail is a must. The cottage is ideally located for day trips to Wanaka, Queenstown and the historical township of Clyde.

Our stay was 11/10! From the beautiful sunny gardens to the exquisite exotic furnishings and luxurious bed linen, the Pickled Pigeon Cottage was absolute bliss. The hosts know exactly how to make guests feel special. If only all properties could be this wonderful.

A beautiful historic cottage with all you'll need for a very comfortable stay. Spotlessly clean, very tastefully decorated, well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, beautiful garden, log-burner ready-to-light, thoughtful touches for guests throughout, and very welcoming hosts! Couldn't ask for more & frankly can't recall a better bach! Our main reason for staying was as a base for biking the Clutha Gold Trail with the kids - a great location for that.

Not only the cutest look, inside the house set up, furnitures and every little details were amazingly well designed and organized! Everything was there and even more than I expected. Wow, an amazing house, full of surprises wherever you look. Great log fire which is perfect for the winter weather. Warmed the house nicely. Excellent secured back yard for our dog. Looking forward to staying again in the future.

We loved our stay at the Pickled Pigeon Cottage in Lawrence. It was just as charming as the photographs, beautifully clean and warm. We really appreciated the extra touch’s, a bottle of wine and chocolates, and most especially the thoughtfulness of our hosts who provided a bed, extra blankets and toys for our dogs. This property has everything you need and a lot of thought and attention has been given to the comfort of guests. A bottle of wine and chocolates were left for us on our arrival. Beautifully decorated cottage with really comfortable beds and the nicest smelling linen I've ever slept it. The finishing touch was when the owners texting us to say we didn't have to check out till midday. Would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away for some peace and quiet in a glorious setting
