"We had a very peaceful relaxing stay in a beautiful lodge. We went old school and took board games and cards for the evenings. Perfect for a couple wanting some time away from everything. "

"It seems this hotel hasn't been updated since the 1960s. The carpets were worn and discolored; frankly, we were scared of catching a skin disease if we walked barefoot. With no disposable slippers provided, we wore socks the entire time. A "we don't care" response twice to my message the day before check-in should have been my first clue.
Most importantly, if you have children, do not book this hotel for their safety/life. The windows were disgusting, the paint was chipped, and horrifically, they wouldn't close or lock. With no safety rails, my 3-year-old could have easily fallen out. We got absolutely no sleep because we were terrified. Furthermore, the bathroom had an old internal barrel bolt, keeping us on high alert—if our child locked it from the inside, the only way to open the door would be to break it down.
All night, the loud noise of the boiler starting up and shutting down, combined with creaking floorboards, kept waking me up. After 3:30 AM, I couldn't sleep at all. I wouldn't stay here again for free. With stained orange wallpaper and a cheap MDF headboard glued to the wall, it felt like a last-resort roadside motel. It’s laughable they claim 4 stars; it isn't worth more than £45-£50 a night.
A 4-star hotel should provide water in the room. Instead, reception told us to go n ask at the bar, which was embarrassing. We spent hundreds at that bar only to realise we were being cheated with the wrong mixers. To top it off, the intercom was faulty and never repaired"
"The location and venue were excellent. The staff and food were brilliant... BUT, the wifi and TV in our room didn't work and the staff seemed to be unable to help based on technical reasons. Otherwise a great stay!!!"
"Nice room, fantastic food especially breakfast. Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff. There were 4 of us on three Motorbikes and I can highly recommend this hotel as being Bike friendly."
"Such a magical stay at the Riverside at Aymestrey. The room was spotless, and I loved the fridge which meant fresh milk and chilled water were available all the time.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, without being intrusive which made the stay a joy.
The food was delicious! A lovely evening menu, lots of breakfast choices - beautiful homemade marmalade and pain Perdue and the most divine cheese platter with homemade bread and crackers.
The outside space was lovely with flowers in bloom everywhere and gorgeous views over the valley! Thank you so much for the loveliest stay! Hoping for a revisit sometime soon!"
"Check in straightforward and quick. The room and bathroom were clean. There was a hair grip left in the bedside cabinet. Only two shower gels for a two day stay for two people. No shampoo. Unfortunately our room was located above the picnic tables for smokers so we couldn't open the window in the evenings.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and so was the evening meal.
Parking on site.
There is a village shop and post office.
Conveniently located for Powis Castle and Welshpool."
"A lovely hotel in a lovely part of Wales….stunning views and a walk along the Wye from the adjoining field. Breakfasts are fine. Evening meals are sadly not special and do not warrant the prices charged. Also Bed and breakfast price is for continental only…..cooked breakfasts are £10 extra. Small things need dealing with. When beds are made in the mornings the teabags etc are not replaced, the bins are not emptied and toilet rolls not replaced. This means the guest having to specifically ask for things that should be automatically dealt with. Adrian and the rest of the staff were great…special mention to barman who was very willing and helpful. Gardens are lovely but are desperately in need of tlc. Top Tip for hotel…..get a better chef to do justice to the lovely hotel.
