Marina Motel
8/10 Good
"This was a great location for our stay in Seward. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Rooms are very basic but comfortable and clean. Black out curtains could use an upgrade but after our very full days- we were happy to go back to our motel."
"We were welcomed quickly after a 2 day train ride from Fairbanks and our fatigued selves were treated to an early check in, bags delivered from the train and hotel transport to our cruise ship the next day. Centrally located in the harbor, everything was walkable and when we needed a taxi at 5 am for a minor crisis they found us one right away. Great people"
"This slightly vintage cabin-like accommodation in the beautiful forest was the perfect place to base one’s stay in the Seward area for tours, hikes, etc. The local restaurant was quite good as well."
"Swan's Nest is a wonderful place to stay in Seward. Sarah, the manager and Sara, the cook and cleaner are absolutely delightful women. Sarah is knowledgeable about all things Seward and the maker of wonderful breakfast breads! Sara is the sweetest person you will ever meet and the maker of the delicious home cooked breakfasts. The "Nest" It is a couple of blocks away from downtown, which makes it quiet but very walkable to restaurants, the educational Alaska Sea Life Center and the walking trail along Resurrection Bay. One does have to carry your luggage up fairly steep stairs to reach the "Nest", so if stairs are a problem, this would not be the place for you. The rooms are all very small but with lots of little nooks and shelves for things. It is not a place to spread out in. There was very little room between the wall and one side of the bed ( which was very comfortable ). I turned my carry on bag sidewise to make a table for my water, book and such things. The tiny bathroom has very little room to turn around in but was very clean with a toilet, a decent sized shower and hooks to hang towels. The sink is in the room. There is a loft with two mattress beds, but the straight up ladder on the wall used to reach it is only for the very young who love to climb and scramble and the very nimble adults, of which we were neither! The breakfast room was light, airy and cheerful, a great place to start your day in Seward. We would certainly recommend this charming and unique place!"
"Such a GREAT location in the city end of Seward. Walking distance between the shore, restaurant choices, bike/walking path, and a covered stop for the free shuttle (has 14 stops) to get around the Seward area which consists of City and Harbor areas."
"The hotel is definitely antiquated, but honestly, that’s part of the appeal. As one of Alaska’s most famous haunted hotels, the old-fashioned décor and historic feel really transport you back in time. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the Wi-Fi worked well, and we appreciated having nice fans in the room. There were also beverages available in the lobby, which was a nice touch.
The staff was wonderful. They were friendly, helpful, and proactive, sending us lots of suggestions for things to do in the area and checking in to see if we needed anything. The location couldn’t have been much better. We were within walking distance of great restaurants, the harbor, the Alaska SeaLife Center, the library, and even a laundromat. Free parking was easy to find, along with street parking. For the price we thought it was a good value.
A few things to know before you book: there are no blackout curtains, and with Alaska’s summer daylight, it was never dark in the room. If you’re sensitive to light when sleeping, plan accordingly. The shower was also a little underwhelming, with low water pressure and only lukewarm water. If you’re looking for lots of hotel amenities, this might not be the place for you. It’s a simple historic hotel with plenty of character but not a lot of extras.
Is it haunted? Maybe! We didn’t experience anything spooky or creepy…thankfully. We just enjoyed staying in a unique piece of Alaska’s past."
