Quiet Getaway in the Woods
Seaside Sanctuary is a beautiful home nestled in the quiet woods of true Down East Maine, with breathtaking views of the tidal coastline. The home was very comfortable and true to the pictures on the website. Although the weather did not cooperate (rain, fog, and a hurricane headed right for us), we enjoyed our time spent in the house and exploring the nearby area as much as possible. Stacey was very easy to communicate with and was very concerned about our well being with the approaching storm. I would recommend this home to anyone seeking solitude and a picturesque location. Thank you for sharing your home with us, Stacey & Tripp.

"Private Seaside Sanctuary" is the perfect description for this home
We are a group of women friends who travel together several times a year. This is our second visit to this home because we loved it so much the first time. The place is private, and the views are unbelievable - there are several places around the property to sit comfortably, drink your favorite beverage, and take in the sights. The surrounding area provides many opportunities for incredible hiking, biking and kayaking. We loved our second visit as much as our first - would highly recommend this home!

Great Maine Experience
The property is remote and therefore quiet and private. We had wonderful views of the water and the changing tides from the back deck and also areas to sit right in the shore and on the front porch a feel of being in the mountains with all the densely forested trees. It is in a great location for trips to Lubec and Eastport and to Canada. We had an unforgettable week thanks to this special “Seaside Sanctuary”

A Slice of Heaven
We had the most relaxing week at Seaside Sanctuary. We enjoyed the absolute peacefulness and beauty during our stay. Everything was clean and cozy. The deck in the morning was our spot to enjoy our coffee and the chairs in the bedroom were a comfortable spot to enjoy our wine and look at the moon and water at night. The unobstructed views were amazing and it was exciting to see a nesting pair of eagles and seals during our stay. We really enjoyed the area as well - Monica’s Chocolates, Campobello, Eastport, etc. There many good restaurants with delicious seafood. We hope to come back Seaside Sanctuary and the Lubec area again!

The Ever Changing Vista @ Seaside Sanctuary
We were already excited before we even got to our destination as the paved roads turned to gravel and our location became more and more remote. Then when we opened the front door we were enchanted to find ourselves in a sumptuous cozy oasis with stellar ocean views and every amenity we could have wanted. The decor is charming, eclectic, and homey, with wonderful rich wood furniture and fascinating museum worthy accents. We were delighted to see several juvenile and adult eagles, red squirrels, seals, and even deer across on Parker Island. We picked blueberries right in front of the house! Day trips were to Campobello for Tea with Eleanor, and Eastport, Reversing Falls, Quoddy Head, and Hamilton Cove. We ate out in Lubec at Water Street Tavern and Cohills, and The Narrow Escape. Couldn’t have asked for a better visit! It is indeed a Seaside Sanctuary…we will remember our stay there!

A little slice of heaven
What a beautiful home! Loved the decor and all the amenities. By far the best equipped home we have stayed in. Although it rained almost the entire time we were there, we were still able to enjoy the views thanks to all of the wonderful windows. We loved watching all of the wildlife. I especially enjoyed the squirrel who met me at the door throughout the day, and, imagine my surprise when I looked out one evening to see a raccoon sitting at the door looking in at me. While our stay was not everything we planned due to the weather, it was absolutely everything we needed. We have recommended this lovely home to everyone we know.

Our 2nd visit to Seaside Sanctuary and we will be back again! Just an amazing property with so many places to comfortably view the coming & going tides. Plenty of things to do in the area as well, we caught a couple of amazing full-moonrises at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and hiked the cliff trails on site as well. We also rented kayaks from a place in Machias and got out on the water almost everyday, one of those days we were visited by 4 Bald Eagles at the same time! The decks around the property are also prime spots for star gazing. The house itself is super cozy and on the 2 days the weather wasn't "cooperating", we spent time in the window seat gazing out into the rain and fog and ever-changing seascape. A true Downeast Maine experience. So thankful for Stacey sharing this property- a remarkable place for quiet, rest and rejuvenation!

Peaceful, remote getaway
We had a lovely time at the cabin! This was such a peaceful place to be; something that is still sticking with me is the quiet. We did not hear another man made noise while we were at the house 😁. It was water, loons, gulls, and wind in the pines… so nice. The weather didn’t cooperate much while we were there, so we didn’t get to explore much, though Quoddy Head State Park was a delight (and a surprise when we wandered into the Atlantic time zone without knowing, whoops!). Thankfully, the cabin was well appointed and very comfortable, so staying in was nice too. If you are looking for a peaceful place to go and want to get away from crowds, I highly recommend this stay!!

We have stayed here before and had another amazing visit in 2022. The property and view are so lovely and private and the house is well placed to enjoy the cove and woods from every room. The variety of outdoor seating spaces gives different angles of the tides, islands, and sunsets. Can’t wait to return here.

Restorative Getaway
This is the fifth time I’ve stayed at Seaside Sanctuary. This year I spent one week on my own and invited my parents (mid-70s) up for the second week. I wanted them to experience the Way Downeast that I’ve been visiting for two decades. This home is the perfect place to do that. Its location is ideal because it combines quiet solitude with proximity to town (Lubec) and the many lakes and hiking trails in this part of Maine. The house is well appointed with just about everything you’ll need, and if you do have a problem the owner is easily reached by text. Seaside Sanctuary is integrated into my annual restorative journey to Way Downeast, unplugging from the world and simply breathing. If this is what you seek, I assure you Seaside Sanctuary will meet your needs.

Just wow! Photos don’t do it justice! If you’re looking for an “off the beaten path” vacation on a secluded cove in Maine, this is the place! It was one of the few vacations where the home/location was the focal point and highlight. Having our morning coffee or evening cocktail on any of the decks, watching birds and wildlife was amazing. Thank you for an incredible vacation and experience. We’d love to visit your home again!

Magical
Wonderfully appointed home in a magical setting. Everything you need is at your fingertips. Seals and eagles were right in front of us in the cove. A mother seal even brought her pup to the waters where we could watch from the deck…or decks. There are perfectly placed decks across the property. Late afternoon the first day when l was already in awe of the place my husband came and said “just take your drink and follow me” and led me along a sweet smelling coastal trail of pine and varied fir trees that ended with a sweeping view of the cove and open sky and a deck with chairs. There is another one on the other side of the property as well as off the dining and master bedroom. Bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable and the place is spotless. You will be glad you experienced this magical place. We surely did!

My wife and I had a perfect, peaceful and relaxing stay at Stacey and Trip's Seaside Sanctuary. Their home is breathtaking and lacks for nothing. Seals frolicked in the water at high tide and we saw an eagle swoop down and fetch his dinner from the bay one evening. The quietness surrounding the area is almost deafening. A very romantic place even for old folks like us and we really didn't want to leave. Looking forward to a return visit next year for a longer stay.

Breathtakingly beautiful
We had a wonderful week at 'Seaside Sanctuary'. The pictures don't do justice to the incredible view and sense of peace. The house was lovely and comfortable and had everything we needed. We felt like we had the whole bay to ourselves. It was fascinating to see how different the landscape looked at high tide and at low tide. We could have spent the whole vacation right there at the house, sitting on the deck watching the water, but we really enjoyed the hiking, the little town of Lubec and Campobello Island. Our favorite hikes included Quoddy Head (nice picnic area too), Boot Head, Western Head and the hike on Campobello Island from Raccoon Beach to Liberty Point. I'm really looking forward to going back to Lubec and Seaside Sanctuary!

What a beautiful spot! We had a relaxing and comfortable stay at the Seaside Sanctuary. This property is lovely and immaculately clean. The master bedroom is even nicer than it appears in pictures. Upon waking each morning, the first thing you’ll see is a stunning view of the cove. The property is thoughtfully stocked and we appreciated having access to the laundry facilities. We spent lots of time playing games on the deck and at the kitchen table. The Lubec Brewing Company is a great place for craft beer and conversations with other visitors and staff. Highlights of the trip include a whale watching tour with Butch Harris and the Windjammer crew out of Eastport. We saw whales, bald eagles, seals and porpoises and were treated like old friends. I think we went hiking everyday! The views at Boot Head and Quoddy were breathtaking and the trails well cared for. We headed over to Campobello Island to check out the history etc. and have lunch. It’s an easy, enjoyable trip. Returning to our home away from home was always a highlight though: as soon as you walk-in you will see a big, beautiful view of the landscape and feel instantly relaxed. Highly recommended❤️

Authentic Downeast Maine
We couldn’t be more pleased with the location of the house and the surrounding area. It was so refreshing to find a vacation spot that was not “touristy”. Lubec and the surrounding communities had an authentic feel and lacked the development found at most vacation destinations. The day hikes were wonderful, and the house offered a great retreat at the end of the day. Campobello Island provided an interesting day trip as well. A wonderful spot for a laid back vacation for those interested in enjoying the outdoors without the crowds.

It’s hard to put words to this incredible place of peace. The house was perfect and the views were one of a kind. We brought our kayak and used it daily. The house was lovely and clean, the location was private and beautiful, and we highly recommend this property. There were so many comfortable places indoors and out to relax and take in the views - the tide going in and out; seals, loons, and eagles fishing; and sunsets over the water and treeline. We had a wonderful experience with the owner, who provided detailed information for everything we needed to know about the property and area and was very accommodating. We plan to stay here again in the future.

We thought we had died and gone to heaven!
One of those magical places where the amazing land and rising/receding tides are a perfect compliment to the inviting & cozy home. Stacy is a perfect host and made it known she was available if we needed anything and provided everything we might need in the home. We really believe she could train other VRBO renters and how it's done just right! The home provides several strategic locations along the shore to sit and/or access the rocks to watch the tides; we lost track of how much time we spent on the back deck watching the cove rise and fall with the eagles, seals, woodpeckers & crows or the stars and Milky Way at night. We cannot say enough about the land surrounding the house and the ease at which we were able to access the sea kayaks for our daily ventures out into the bay. We are novice kayakers and by the end of the week had learned how to get the best out of our time on the water. Plenty of hikes nearby for short trips (West Quoddy Head, Boothead Preserve, Cutler) and we also made the drive up to Reversing Falls in Pembroke. We did not know about the newly opened Cobscook Shores park with even more trails in the area and places to enjoy the water or kayak or ride bikes- a really impressive park system. We hope to be back real soon because this rental was truly a sanctuary for our physical, mental, emotional & spriritual well being.

Seaside Sanctuary says it all. If you want a peaceful place to unwind and slow down this is it. The view of the cove from every room allows for viewing the cove regardless of weather, and the many outdoor seating areas allows for sitting together or alone. Soak in the quietness as you watch eagles playing on the island, or watching the seals swimming . A short drive away to downtown Lubec to grab the ferry to Eastport, viewing the Quoddy Lighthouse, and hiking the preserves allow for much exploration of the beautiful coastline as well as all the walking trails and picnic spots within the Cobscook Bay area. Plenty of kayaking and biking opportunities.

From the moment we walked into this lovely home and then out the back to the deck, we we were mesmerized by the incredible views, and feeling of peace and quiet we experienced. In order to align with the tides, we kayaked every morning on a calm glass like surface. During the whole week we met one other kayaker. We saw two harbor seals several times a day, experienced numerous eagle, blue heron, humming bird, king fisher and osprey sightings throughout the week and when we weren't on the property had so much fun exploring all of the surrounding areas of Eastern Maine. We love to cook and this house had the best stocked kitchen we have ever stayed at. The beds were comfortable, the house was very clean, and the views spectacular. I would highly recommend this home.

A really beautiful place
This house was just perfect for our family of four. Stacey provided us everything we needed prior to the visit. The house was spotless on arrival. I give my highest compliments to the cleaning team. Everything was in perfect order. I really only had two small questions to ask the owner upon arrival, and Stacey was quick to respond and was very helpful with information about the local area. The house really just settles into the peace and tranquility of the area. The captain's quarters is so comfortable. We slept wonderfully in the bed. The ceiling fan was a lifesaver on one very hot night (temps were very cool during our week with the exception of one very hot day/night). We loved sitting in the chairs at the sliding glass doors in the early morning and late at night. We could really enjoy the breeze and sounds without having to deal with mosquitos (they were just coming out during our stay.) The two other bedrooms were also very comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and there were plenty of towels/washcloths/bathmats. The kitchen was small but well stocked. We prepared most of our meals there. It's hard to overstate the peacefulness and tranquility of this property. Although there are houses in fairly close proximity, you will not see any of them from the house (although if you take to kayaking or canoeing the bay, you may see some among the trees along the coast). Technology is not a must for any of us, so we had no problem not having wifi. However, our cell phones did have plenty of service and we had data sufficient to check our personal email and VRBO, which was helpful for contacting the owner. The kayaks and canoe were a really great addition. And, the owners had just received brand new life vests, another huge plus. The tides in the bay are pretty dramatic, so important to stay in tune to the tide changes to make sure you don't get stuck. We had no problem doing so. Low tide tends to take away from the beautiful views a bit, since there is a lot mud and seagrass exposed when the tide goes out. Nevertheless, the views are really remarkable and the sunsets are beautiful. We really enjoyed having our dinner and then sitting out on one of the decks to watch the sunset and enjoy the sounds of the area. Lots of wildlife and sea creatures to enjoy. There is lots to explore along the coastline as well. Lubec and Eastport are delightful, and West Quoddy Head State Park is a must. Highly recommend this property and area.

This house is an absolute gem. It is set above the water on a wooded cliff. The architecture was beautifully designed to bring the feeling of outside in. Inside, the house is very well stocked, and so comfortable. This house is not just a base camp where you stash your stuff while you are doing other things. It’s a destination itself. Stacey was amazingly kind and responsive, and even opened up the house a few weeks early just for us. Our stay was unparalleled. We spent our days hiking and exploring, and relaxing at the house. There are numerous protected areas within a thirty minute drive of the house with spectacular hiking trails. We can’t wait to have another opportunity to go back.

The house was very clean, comfortable and private. Beautiful views and property. The master bedroom was amazing! Also there is a lovely reading/ relaxing nook upstairs that isn't pictured. Loved the window seat and all of the outdoor spaces. Many wonderful trails and sites close by. Over all a wonderful stay, with that being said, all places have their downsides, depending on what is important to different people. For us, as avid kayakers, being limited by the tides since you are back on a cove kept us form going out as much as we would have liked. No outdoor fires at all on the property, was definitely a disappointment and the fireplace is not open for use, which is not explained in the listing. But I would definitely recommend staying here.

This is a lovely and charming home, enlivened with original paintings and graced with a one-of-a-kind view of a tidal cove. If you like hiking, you'll love the amazing opportunities on nearby coastal headlands (sort of Acadia National Park without all the people and cars). Also great whale watching (for us, at least) from nearby town of Eastport. Seaside Sanctuary is beautiful and amazing!
We had such a wonderful and restorative stay! The setting of this home is exceptional and unique. It is so quiet and restful. The only things we could hear regularly were seagulls in the distance and squirrels chattering nearby. We also spotted hummingbirds, cormorants, and a seal swimming by. The water views from the house are incredible and there are many different deck seating areas around the property from which to take them in. Our family of four hiked every day (except for one rainy day) on Bold Coast or different preserve trails, all of which were a short drive away. After a long hike, my husband and I would choose a deck to sit in the sun, have a beer, and enjoy the vista. The changing tides meant the view was always a little different but always gorgeous. All of us enjoyed kayaking- at high tide- across the bay and I took a swim at low tide (though a wetsuit was necessary due to the chilly water temps). We were social distancing so we mostly hiked and stuck by the house but we also visited Eastport one afternoon for ice cream and gifts (very cute historic downtown), hiked near the lighthouse, and got delicious takeout from the Shore Thing in Lubec (we loved their lobster roll.) The house is lovely, comfortable and cozy, with everything you need and views and privacy you won't find anywhere else. The kids (11 and 8) bemoaned the lack of WiFi the first couple of days, but then got into playing in the woods, reading, and board games. We wanted to get all of us off of devices for the week and it worked! We highly recommend visiting Seaside Sanctuary and would love to return in the future.

A Quiet Escape
This is my third time staying at this home, and I've written past reviews. This year was a little different. There were some extremely wet and windy days that limited my outdoor activities, and these days helped me appreciate the true comfort that you find here. One day, I stretched out in the window seat (yes - you can fully stretch out in it!), read a book, watched the rain, and when the sun finally broke through the clouds, I napped there, in the sunlight. On another morning I wrapped myself in a blanket and sat in one of the chairs in the master bedroom and watched as the rain came down. Of course, when the days are sunny there is plenty to do - hiking, kayaking, and exploring the towns in the area. Downeast is a beautiful part of Maine, and this property is ideally located. I will admit that some of my best days were spent on the back porch or the elevated seating area that is set up in the rocks, enjoying the sun, watching the seals, loons and cormorants fish, drinking a beer and reading a book. This place is where I go to rejuvenate. It's almost magical. I drive away on Saturday, refreshed and ready to return to the madness of life. I've been coming Downeast for nearly twenty years.
