Shenandoah Outfitters is a great place to start in planning your river adventure. It is an easy walk from Deer Forest Lodge. Check out their website or call them to make a reservation if you choose to use them for your canoeing, kayaking, rafting, or tubing adventures on the river.
If you would rather use your own equipment and plan your own river adventure, you can make use of the following boat ramps:
- Bealer’s Ferry Boat launch (about a mile south on Page Valley Road) - Foster’s boat launch (about a mile north on Page Valley Road) - Seekford boat launch (4.5 miles north on Page Valley Road) - Inskeep boat ramp (6.6 miles south on Page Valley Road)
The cabin also provides easy access to some of the area’s best hiking:
- Habron Gap Trail (intermediate/two miles one way), with its trailhead near Foster’s boat ramp: Enjoy stunning views up and down the South Fork of the Shenandoah River until you crest on the Massanutten Trail - Indian Grave Trail (intermediate/2.6 miles one way): Just beyond the Seekford boat ramp is the trailhead for the Indian Grave Trail, which also summits at the Massanutten Trail. - Kennedy Peak Trail (intermediate/9.5 mile loop): Don’t give up before you reach the overlook!
You also won’t want to miss the great hiking along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, including the Stony Man, Little Stony Man, Hawksbill, and Old Rag hikes.
Of course, no trip to Luray would be complete without a visit to the iconic Luray Caverns. The caverns are a national treasure and are the most popular caverns in the eastern United States.
Some good restaurants in and around Luray include:
- The Speakeasy Pub - Broad Porch Coffee - Watch and Warrant - The Valley Cork - Triple Crown BBQ
The Blue Ridge Whisky and Wine Loop goes through Luray. Some locations along the trail that are an easy drive from the cabin include:
- River Hill Distillery (15 minutes) - Hawksbill Brewing Company (17 minutes) - Faithbrooke Barn and Vineyards (20 minutes) - Castle Vineyards (20 minutes) - Wisteria Farm and Vineyard (25 minutes)
Other area attractions that are worth a visit include:
- Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park, with water slides, swimming pools, splash pad, mini golf, ziplines, and more (20 minutes) - Bear Mountain Adventures, with awesome ziplines and a climbing wall (20 minutes) - Fort Valley Ranch and Trail Rides (23 minutes) - Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive (35 minutes)
Guests will have access to the entire cabin and property.
The cabin has keyless, contact-free entry. There is no need to stop and pick up a key. When you arrive in the area, you can go straight to the cabin and unwind.
I will be available at all times while guests are in the cabin, although I try to keep regular business hours as much as possible for the sake of my family. If something needs attention, I will do my best to get it fixed as quickly as possible!
The neighborhood is mostly comprised of vacation cabins full of fellow river adventurers, but there are some full-time residences there as well.
The cabin is on a regular, monthly pest control schedule, but sometimes unwanted bugs may venture inside. This area is home to stink bugs, Asian beetles, wood roaches, gnats, and mosquitos, which may view open windows and doors as an invitation. I recommend keeping windows and doors closed when not in use.
Page Valley Road is a small, meandering backcountry lane that snakes its way along the Shenandoah River, passing campgrounds and cabins galore. A few miles past the cabin, the pavement ends and you will be driving on gravel. Forest Road itself is a dirt road that can be a bumpy drive. I recommend a 4x4 if you are visiting in Winter.
The cabin is in a remote area and there is no broadband internet. We provide Wi-Fi through cellular internet which the best option available, but is not what you would expect to get in a city. Most locals use AT&T or T-Mobile. Verizon is pretty weak.

Check in is at 4:00 pm and check out is at 10:00. These times are fixed. The cleaners keep a very tight schedule and make their plans around this six hour window. Out of respect to them, I cannot make exceptions to these times.
Please note that as a small business, I am not able to grant last-minute refunds, so I highly recommend protecting your investment with travel insurance.

This house was great for my friends and I! Plenty of room and amenities. The host was very sweet, gave great recommendations, and was happy to help at anytime. Thanks again!!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin! It was very clean, spacious and we both loved the hot tub and fire pit! If you book a stay here you will not be disappointed!
The property and amenities are as described and posted. The location is great, the cabin is very well appointed. Excellent communication with the host, and ease of check in and check out. LoWe lived our stay!
Everything was as described at the property, loved hanging out on the comfy porch. Service and wifi were great. Kitchen and living room area very roomy. Great location with proximity to Luray and things to do.
This is a beautiful little cabin tucked away in the woods for a nice quiet stay with gorgeous views and plenty of amenities to stay in if you are a homebody or if you are an outdoor enthusiast, there are plenty of options for hiking, rafting, and tons of other outdoor activities. The cabin was very neat and was a pleasure to enjoy! Would highly recommend!
We enjoyed our stay. It was very quiet while inside, you could hear neighbors talk outside, but not hear what they were saying - sorta like camp. We were allowed to bring the dogs, so that was very nice.
We booked this cabin for a weekend getaway as a family and with our dogs.
We had an amazing time. The cabin is wonderful, well equipped and great location
More importantly, the owners/hosts were wonderful to deal with and made our entire stay very enjoyable, including putting up Christmas decorations.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Our family really enjoyed getting together at your place it was beautiful and there was snow so it made it even more beautiful thanks for having the flashlights out for us just in case we needed them but everything went perfect we even went in the hot tub and watched it snow
Such a spacious house and nice, quiet location. We loved the fire pit, corn hole, hot tub, and there was plenty of room for the kids to play, inside and outside. We never felt cramped, despite there being 8 of us plus a dog! Highly recommend!
Everything was just like the pictures! there was plenty of room for all of us and there was a lot to do at and nearby the house. Dolly was able to answer all my questions and gave great tips on how to have a good time in Luray. I’d love to stay again and I highly recommend this place!
Very relaxing, the bed on lower level was amazing. Secluded yet still close to everything you’d want to do like fishing, hiking, wineries. Was a very relaxing stay. Took a couple days to get the hot tub to heat up but also enjoyable. Our pups totally enjoying their first away from home trip. Would def rent again
We liked the location and the cabin has everything one needs to enjoy the outdoors, or stay in and enjoy the hot tub, pool table, or a TV in nearly every room!! Very large dining space and kitchen and nice yard for outdoor activities if you are so inclined. Great area and scenery!!
Watch for deer, they walk around all over the place!!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay here; it was perfect for our family. The kids enjoyed the games downstairs and everyone enjoyed the luxurious tubs both upstairs and on the main floor. So relaxing after some rafting on the Shenandoah. The proximity to the rental couldn’t be better!!! We could’ve walked there. I wanted to stay longer, truly!
This cabin was one of the highlights of a girls trip that my friends and I went on! It was very similar to the images posted on Vrbo(surprisingly) and everything was clean and extremely well thought out. We ended up spending every meal together in the cabin on the trip and the fully stocked pantry came in very handy! The hot tub was set up perfectly, so all we had to do was turn it on and jump in! It is located in a nice and quiet area, and while service was spotty around the area, the cabin itself had great wifi! Overall we all had an amazing stay and would recommend this location to anyone looking to do a trip to Luray!!
Family get together to celebrate Thanksgiving. The kitchen was well stocked to cook a Thanksgiving feast. Everyone had a great time playing pool, relaxing in the jacuzzi, and each
night sitting by the fire pit. We are a family of 9 and had plenty of room/space.
Wonderful cabin, was very clean inside. Outside furniture wasn’t as clean as expected. All the amenities were in working condition, WiFi and Internet connectivity was good. Our favorite was the camp fireplace , hot tub was good but the area needed to be a bit more cleaner for it to be more usable. Overall, we had a fun trip and the stay was good. All the rooms and bathrooms were very clean.
Nice cabin feeling in a beautiful wooded harea
We had 4 children and 4 adults. Grandma and two of her four children came with a set of twin 5 year girls, an eight year girl, and a twelve year old boy. The children loved the wrap- around porch, the hot tub, and fire pit.
Located in a quiet neighborhood. Great for taking walks! Our dog enjoyed exploring the area on our walks. He even made friends with another dog up the street. Spent the nights sitting by the fire then hopping in the hot tub. Loved the hot tub!! Cabin was clean and communication with the host was excellent!
