I cannot recommend Sungate One enough! I stayed in 4 hostels during my 2.5 week trip in Spain and this was by far the best. This was my first stop on my first solo trip and I was really nervous but I immediately felt at home when I got to the hostel. The staff was so friendly and helpful whenever I asked for suggestions of things to do or places to get food. I went to the tapas tour on my first day and planned to have an early night but ended up staying out all night with my new friends! The front lobby and kitchen area is a great way to meet people and the staff always makes sure everyone’s having a good time. The rooms were nice and spacious, there were plenty of bathrooms and showers, everything was really clean. There were both daytime and nighttime activities and everywhere we went was inexpensive. Location was amazing so you could easily walk everywhere or take the metro. This was the perfect start to my vacation and I was lucky enough to spend 1 extra night there before going back home because I missed my flight. I highly recommend Sungate One and I told multiple people to stay there when they got to Madrid and everyone loved it. Thank you so much Gabi, Val, Angel, Tato, Agustin, Sara, & anyone else that I’ve missed for creating such a fun, welcoming environment and making me feel like part of the family! I can’t wait to visit again!!

Great location - Friendly staff - superb
Only stayed for one night as a Solo traveller. Within minutes I had met new travellers and had a fantastic night, Rooms were fine and had storage for your belongings, just bring a padlock if you want to lock them up. Honestly as a solo traveller I would rather stay here, than a 5 star hotel, if you want to meet new people and have a great time. Would certainly stay here again if I returned to Madrid.

Amazing stay and staff
What a great place . Amazing staff that is always happy to help you . Gabriel who is a guide for tours organised by the hostel showed us the best bits of Toledo, many off beaten path that provided amazing photo opportunities! It’s a very lively and social hostel and I have been bumping into people I met there in another parts of Europe , which is pretty amazing. I truly recommend for amazing Madrid experience!

This is by far the best hostel I’ve stayed in. It feels very homely and social, people working there are extremely friendly and organise so many cool activities that help meeting other solo travellers . I had the best time and found it hard to leave, planning on coming back for sure. Madrid is also full of things to do, so all in all a win.

Great hostel with friendly staff and a good atmosphere to meet new people. Right by a metro station and in a great location. Can walk to many attractions. Clean spaces and comfy beds. Really enjoyed my stay and would recommend!

overpriced room, noisy air con, small room with 2 single beds-you have to climb a wall to access 1 of the beds, chill out movie area is relaxing-but not so relaxing if you are in your room-then you can hear everyone talking, music playing etc blocked showers, screws loose in drains, some staff good, others not so good. people throw burning cigarettes on your head from the rooms, staff throw dead cigarette butts out of windows when cleaning rooms... i wont use this hostel again here at this place.

i had 2 rooms booked, My 1st room was a shared female dormitory, if you sit on the end of the beds then be careful, as they tip up causing you to fall on the floor, left me with serious back pain. mattress was uncomfortable. Room was dirty. My 2nd room was a private room costing £44 for 1 night, not worth the money, you can find a 1 or 2star hotel for this price, overpriced, small, with 2 single beds, you need to climb the wall if you want to access 1 of the single beds. i was disgusted and shocked at the price when i saw this room, i wanted to ask for a refund. i couldn't use the air con in this room-far to noisy. but the mattress was comfortable. The shower on the 4th floor was blocked and flooded the whole area outside the shower room, flooding into the bedrooms opposite the shower, massive screw sticking out of the shower drain-damaged my foot. The hostel in general-very noisy and dirty, smells of guests cooking. The air conditioners outside & inside the rooms are disturbing, when i arrived on my 1st night-someone threw a lit cigarette onto my head from a room somewhere above the entrance area, burning my hair and scalp. on the 2nd last day someone threw 2 dead cigarette butts on top of my head from one of the rooms above-this was staff cleaning the room. some of the staff were nice-but some were not.

One of the Best Hostels out there
I had the most amazing time at Sungate. Wonderful staff who are very considerate of your needs. Super clean with all the amenities of home! Excellent showers, comfortable beds. Will stay again.

The property is convenient to metro rail and within walking distance of nearly all of the major sights to see. The staff is amazingly welcoming. The guest immediately feel as if they belong. This was one of the best experiences of my life. I was inspired by the stories and people I was able to interact with in this setting. They are respectful and they know how to have a good time.

It was perfectly located around all the good stuff of Madrid. The place is in good condition and clean. Very pleasant to be in. My room was actually with a window to the main street which means a lot of noise all the time. Also no Air Conditioner. So that means either really hot and suffocating but quiet, or open the window, get air, but noisy. Luckily my earplugs worked well... Showers could be better though, some shower heads were partly broken or the stream was just really weak which is kinda frustrating. Other than that, the place was great. Staff was amazing. The hostel does a good job in making everyone feel welcome and has activities that help you connect and get to know other people. I came in really early in the morning after a long night bus and Luke was amazing helping my settle in even though it was officially before check in time (the bed was available, so he just checked me in). There were waffles for breakfast and churros. Dinner is home-made everyday for everyone.

Location is second to none!
The location is superb, right in the center of pedestrian shopping area, so convenient. The hostel has no lift/elevator and reception is located at 2nd floor and rooms are at 3rd, I was lucky the receptionists are so kind helping me with my luggage. There's no breakfast but they provide free dinner instead, I didn't try though because I went with a full day tour to Segovia. Lockers does not come with a lock so you need your own padlock or buy from reception. Also hostel does not provide towels, no free shower gel or shampoo, but you can also buy from the reception. The bathrooms are not so clean and people left their used shampoo bottles and towels in the bathroom.

This hostel was the best part of my trip to spain, the staff is very friendly and attentive, the rooms are comfortable, and spacious, if you are traveling alone you get to make friends because of all the free activities they do with the guests. People from all ages get together for picnics and dinners, or day trips to Segovia and Toledo. The rooms are clean and so are the bathrooms, that are very private for shared bathrooms in a hostel. I’d definitely recommend this place and stay again in any of the hostel one hostels

I stayed at Sungate one for 3 nights in April. Overall its a good hostel but I do think they are somethings to note about staying here.Most importantly they do book large high school groups into the hostel and that completely changes the hostel's vibes. I found the staff to be a bit curt and flustered when such large groups took over the hostel and it didn't feel as welcoming. I mostly just stayed in my room at those times. However overall the staff is sooooo nice/helpful and Angel is really an amazing manager the staff themselves is on the younger side some probably only 2 years out of high school so combined with the high school groups the hostel could feel very young at times. I don't have anything against young adults but its something to note if you want to party hard that it may get a bit awkward when the hostel's crowd can't even legally drink yet.

The staff are the best, super lovely, friendly, welcoming and just all round super cool and the best. I'm very sleep deprived at the moment but I mean that with my whole heart haha. They really were the best, you will feel at home straight away. Also the no bunks situation is lovely because you don't have to climb up and wake the person on the bottom bunk and hit you're head on the roof et cetera - frequent hostel stayers know what I'm talking about. The showers were clean and good pressure. The churros for breakfast were delightful and the crepes/pancakes also - who knew apricot jam and crepes would be such a match made in heaven. All round lovely hostel :)

Great party hostel
Sungate One is a fantastic party hostel, but I would not recommend it to anybody who is hoping to sleep! The noise from the street and from the other guests was relentless. The staff was very friendly and the food was good.

This hostel made my time in Madrid SO MEMORABLE. Starting with two staff members who just went above and beyond - Jessie and Roberto. Roberto described Madrid in great detail showing me some local spots and awesome tourist must-sees in a map! Jessie took the time to show me around town and we walked to the hostel sunset picnic together (a social event hosted by the hostel that I recommend 100%!!) And when I told them I was looking to try paella but theyre so big for a solo traveler like me, they offered to grab some paellas for lunch that we can all share for lunch at the dining table! They were both so sweet to all guests and added a personal touch, making sure the guests feel at home and just hanging out at a friend's place. The facilities are very clean! I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm. The beds were comfy, the room welt homey, and it was quiet! There's also laundry available. You step out and youre in front of stores like Zara and just a couple minutes from a main plaza with metro station. This location feels so safe to walk around even past midnight. Perfect location! The social atmosphere here was awesome and really, hats off to these guys for making my stay so fun! I met so much people that I enjoyed talking to. I also recommend the pub crawl!

First Hostel Experience- Would come back
My wife and I got a private room and had an amazing stay, great welcoming staff, clean bathrooms and rooms. Going out with everyone was cool, felt like a big family. Would stay at SungateOne again. Only thing I would suggest is, I couldn't tell who worked there and who was staying there, except for the one person behind reception. I figured out who didnt work there by asking questions, wasnt sure about the others. Maybe an introduction everytime someone new comes? But this is just nitpicking because everything else was perfect. Loved this place though

Excellent for meeting people
Location is near Sol station and within walking distance from the art galleries or historical part of Madrid. Free nightly dinner makes it easy to meet people. Can then go out at 23.30. Only criticism is that the mattress was quite uncomfortable.

Stay here, you won't regret it!
This is where you need to be! Fantastic staff who will welcome you with open arms. Location is the best position in the city. Nice outings and activities, family style dinner if you want to participate, but you don't have to. Everything is up to you. If you want to party, stay downstairs, if not, there are quieter rooms where you can take a nice rest. Pristine bathrooms, and clean in all areas of hostel. Nice relaxed vibe. The staff helped me with my heavy luggage upon arrival, assisted with making some phone calls, and then upon leaving, actually took me through the metro stops to my next location! The manager is an intelligent and caring man, very thoughtful. I would have liked to stay longer, but I'd already booked another site, and that was a mistake on my part. Stay here for extraordinarily nice people, a great location, comfortable social areas, and clean spaces.

I had read an article on this place and hoped it was as awesome as it sounded, and it was! I made friends immediately, the staff were LOVELY and went above and beyond, and the facilities were super clean and well looked after. The activities were fun and the morning churros were delicious and cured my hangover. AND the location is incredibly good! Highly recommend!

Love the Sungate family
Hostel location was superb, in between Sol and Callao stations. Busy street but no noise as my room was not facing the street. Most og all, I love the people at Sungate. They feel like family to me, always so helpful and warm. Dinner time was great to meet other travellers and the meals were delicious. Highly recommended.

Sungate One is a social hostel who can meet the interests of pretty much everyone. There is an activity per day plus an opportunity to go out ervery night. The staff is friendly and effective. Paulina helped me a lot to plan my next stop and all. Christos always gave me an amazing service. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to stay two more nights! The free diners are the perfect occasion to meet the other travelers and share our experiences. En gros, j'ai adoré!

Hostel is very centrally located, and it is easy to walk or take the metro to many attractions. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way for guests (taking them out to bars, on tours, free dinners). However, the walls are very thin and everything can be heard throughout the hostel, so not for the light sleeper. Beds are a bit uncomfortable but bathroom is nice and clean. Overall, this is place great for young travelers to meet others.

I was amazed with the service and vibe at the hostel. The only thing I didn't like was there's no elevator/lift. So you are travelling with luggage like me, you better be strong lol other than that, I so loved staying here. Free breakfasting and dinner and coffee & teas. Location is awesome! Walkable to all s landmarks!

Just a fantastic week. Staff were brilliant, friendly, helpful, social, genuine and accommodating. Great location, it's a small hostel on 1 floor of a building right next to the main square. Very clean. Showers were brilliant. Beds were actual beds and not bunks and although my mattress wasn't great I didn't mind and got a good nights sleep every night! If I had to pick one area of improvement (and I'm being really picky because honestly it's one of the best if not the best hostel I've stayed in) it would be the lockers in the room. My stuff felt secure but could have felt securer. The lockers are just ikea units you can padlock at the front, enough to put off an opportunist but relatively easy to get into at the back if you tried. Good wifi and facilities. Free dinner every night surpassed expectation and was a massive help during the week. I will be back. Thanks!!

Wow! What a GREAT place!
First, I must preface this review with the information that I manage a Hostel in Alaska. Staying at Sungate One was like coming home and, even though the character and setting of this Hostel is much different from my Alaskan home it shares all of its qualities. Fantastic location and easy access to all of the local sights and services, just to mention a few, and the warmth and helpfulness of staff members like Luigi, Nicole and Alfredo make this #1 in my assessment of a Hostel to stay in Madrid! The staff responsible for cleaning, also, deserve recognition as it is often a thankless job and they are doing a professional and excellent job! The nightly free dinners reinforce the idea of community and the lively discussions and laughter filled air wrap themselves around you! Sungate One, I hope to return!

Perfect for social travelers
This is the hostel I will compare all others to! Of course, it has everything all good hostels have: great location (walking distance to major sights), clean bathrooms and showers, nice rooms with decent beds. What sets Sungate apart is its amazing staff. They really take the time to engage with guests and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. There's no shortage of activities every day, from day trips to Toledo (thanks Cristo!) to local pub crawls in Malasaña (thanks Nicole!). The free dinner every night is a fantastic idea and a great way to meet both your fellow travelers and the staff. Sungate is great because it has a great group of people behind it. They've fostered a welcoming social atmosphere where you'll find people hanging out at all times of the day, chatting about any and everything and having a great time.
