"The breakfast was made to order and could include bacon every day if you want it which is unusual in Costa Rica. Decent quality. We found the food at dinner to be mediocre to poor. We had a very bad experience ordering churrasco the meat was mostly inedible. Food prices are very high at GAIA, but there are good local restaurants. In some way to serve with remarkable good as we were assigned a concierge who we could contact anytime by texting on WhatsApp and that was very nice. Also, the owners introduced himself and were very friendly and potentially helpful. The room was nice but so expensive that I could not call it a good value."

"Overall, the property was beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The wildlife was a highlight of the stay. We saw monkeys, a sloth, lizards and many different types of birds, which made the experience feel especially unique. The hotel itself was peaceful and never felt overly crowded, which was a major plus. The main drawback was the service, which was consistently slow throughout the stay. From check-in to being seated and served at lunch and dinner, there were noticeable delays. At the wet bar, I waited about 15 minutes before the bartender was able to take my order. It did not seem to be a reflection of the staff themselves, but rather that the property appeared understaffed, especially at the restaurants and bars. Checkout was similar, with only one person at the front desk managing both phone calls and guest departures. The food and drinks were very good and clearly well prepared, though they felt overpriced given the level of service. Overall, the property itself was lovely and the setting was memorable, but the staffing and service experience did not quite match the price point. Note: If you plan to drive, be extremely careful as there were a lot of cars parked on the side of the road by beach goers, making it narrow and dangerous with oncoming vehicles."

"This hotel was amazing! Without a rental car, trips added up quickly- it is far from everything!!! The beach was empty, stunning, and wellmaintained. The staff were super kind & helpful. I would recommend staying here if you want a laid back trip! Macaws flying around were so pretty (and loud!) we also saw parrots, iguanas, and many other animals! Restaurant was good, it is a bit limited menu, but everything we ate/drank was delicous (Guanabana drink was hard to top!)."

"My stay at Makanda in Costa Rica was nothing short of exceptional. The property itself is stunning, with breathtaking views and an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. Candy and Alfredo went above and beyond in assisting with our private plane arrangements and ensured that every aspect of our stay was seamless and perfectly coordinated within the resort. Alexander, who took care of us in the pool area, made an already incredible experience unforgettable. His attentiveness and care were unmatched, and he truly spoiled us while we enjoyed some of the most magical sunsets I have ever seen. I rarely take the time to write reviews, as I generally expect excellence from the places I choose to stay. However, Makanda exceeded those expectations in every way, and it absolutely deserves recognition. This is a destination I would return to without hesitation."
