"I love the portola! Only place I stay and travel almost monthly down to Monterey. The rooms are always clean, spacious, the beds are very comfy. Partial bay view is a must. Balcony has two chairs nice to enjoy ur coffee on or listen to some wildlife (sea lions). Basically 4 restaurants attached to the hotel, Carmel bakery n coffee inside the hotel. The location is prime! Walk right and head down Alvarado st you got ur breweries and 10-15 restaurants. Go left and you’re on the Monterey pier , 7 restaurants, a bunch of clothes ans candy shops and my favorite whale watching. I do every time and it’s so close to portola. "

"Overall, a good clean place. I couldn’t rate staff as we did everything electronically..from check in to check out. We didn’t encounter in person staff. I’m satisfied with my stay. I will stay again. "

"This is a very low budget room . The rooms had black mold in the showers, window seals are full of mold. I thought it would be nicer by the pictures but it was not as nice as they make it seem . I also could hear the upstairs persons every step . So don’t plan on resting well. "

"Everything about this inn was impeccable. Staff was polite, helpful, kind and patient. The rooms were nicely appointed, very clean and nice. One complaint would be that the blinds do not block enough of the light coming into the room while sleeping. But everything else was absolutely wonderful!"
