Welcome to your Stay on the St. Clair River
"As Ships Go By" is a prime Metro Detroit Vacation Rental, located in Marine City, one of Southeast Michigan's and Western Ontario's top destination spots. Enjoy your view from your deck as a parade of nautical vessels pass your expansive 1900 square foot, 4 bedroom retreat. Absorb the sights and sounds of all four seasons and the constantly changing natural wonders along the river. Family friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The property is a duplex and we live in the adjacent unit making us available to accommodate your stay. Except for the boat hoist, you have full access to the dock and yard.

What a marvelous stay! Peter and Karen were delightful hosts! The home is perfect, the view is amazing, they allowed us to host a small family party and everyone had such a delightful time! We will definitely be back, hopefully every summer!

Great Stay

Pete was an amazing host. Pete and his wife were so helpful and gracious and they even took us on a little ride aboard their boat. The place was beautiful and clean and it is a great place to relax. I highly recommend and will definitely return again!!

Making Memories

Loved our stay. Took this short vacation to make memories with my grandchildren. This didn’t disappoint! Beautiful home, lots of ships to watch and the Kennedys could not be nicer people! Highly recommend this property!

Awesome rental

This is a wonderful property. The hosts are gracious and welcoming. If you are a freighter maven like my husband and I, this is the place to be. It's right on the St. Clair River, and you can watch the freighters go by day and night. This is our fourth stay at this location, and we are already planning to go back next year.

Fishing Trip Headquarters

What an awesome stay! The place was just as advertised and the hosts were just as gracious as the reviews indicated. There were 6 of us for a fishing trip and we had everything we needed. Location was great...just south of the MC launch. Sure hope we can duplicate this 4 day stay again. Thanks for the great experience!

Relaxed!

Great place to relax and unwind. Enjoyed watching the ships pass by. Two Eating area inside and outside. Pleanty of room to spread out. Fishing off the dock. We had a wonderful time there. Pete and Karen are so friendly and helpful. Definitely love to go there again. ❤️

Wonderful home on the water

We loved everything about our stay. The home is beautiful and cozy and right on the water. The deck and outside area are lovely and relaxing. Inside is fully furnished with all you need for a great vacation. Pete and Karen are wonderful and extremely knowledgeable about the area. Overall, I can't say enough about our stay. We will definitely be back!!

Merry time Christmas

A girls' trip to Marine City for their Merry time Christmas day. We love the shops and restaurants in downtown and Pete is a great host. The house is very clean and comfortable. He had it decorated for Christmas which was so appreciated. This is our third stay at this property and would stay again.

Very nice house with gorgeous water view

Very nice clean, big, house with with a great views of the water. We were only two but there was lots of space for a big family to spread out. The owners were very friendly (and so were their dogs!) and available to answer any questions we had. Would love to go again when its warm enough to swim.

Wonderful stay

Can't say enough about this rental. Easily the cleanest we have stayed in. Location is perfect. Easy access to Marine City and a short hop to Harsens Island. Loved sitting and watching the freighters go by. Pete, the owner, was very friendly as well as his two sweet dogs. Loved the fresh baked cookies when we arrived. We are already discussing when we will return. Thanks for a perfect weekend.

Comfortable. Beautifully and interestingly decorated. Kitchen well stocked with cookware and appliances. Great views of the river and the big ships from first and second floor sunrooms, back deck and the dock out on the water. Grounds and gardens lovely. Convenient location too between Marine City and Harsens Island. WE'LL BE BACK!

Oh my! A dream. The property, the details, the view, and the owners. ❤️

The description of "clean, cozy home" doesn't BEGIN to describe this property and our experience. Every room is decorated with such care to the traveler --there is a touch of home with plenty of places to put your own things. The beds we're incredibly comfortable, and the view was unbelievable. There were little spaces throughout the property to sit, relax, and to take a moment to just breathe. Watching the freighters float by was magic. The yard was immaculate, and the owners were such kindest people I have ever met; we will be back!!

Ships and board games. Perfect winter stay!

This place was perfect, exactly what we needed! Karen and Peter are kind and friendly hosts. We really enjoyed the chance to get to know them and their sweet dog Sandy in the brief time that we were there and were excited to visit their antique shop before leaving town. We were happily surprised to find some very pretty Christmas decorations and fresh cookies when we arrived. The house was even larger and cuter in person. The place was spotless and filled with interesting books, model boats and cool knickknacks that kept us busy much of the weekend. Beds were comfortable, the linens were nice. The house had everything that we needed to settle in for a few days to play games and watch the ships pass by. The ships were amazing, much closer and more frequent than I expected. The kids were delighted to use the binoculars, books and posters in the house to identify each ship that passed. Overall this was an excellent weekend away, cozy and no stress. We will definitely be back!

My go to vacation ; A piece of heaven Few weeks ago, We had a wonderful summer weekend with my family staying at Pete and Karen’s property, who were amazing hosts. We had a great time there, playing , eating, going sightseeing and more. Words can’t describe how wonderful, warm and friendly they are. They took care of everything even the smallest ones such as providing children with different type of games and board games which , Pete and Karen extremely kid and nice to my son and their adorable dog “Sandy” was so friendly and played with my son. The cottage was extremely beautiful and surrounded by the river and trees. Having easy access to grocery, restaurants and antiques shops. I really recommend this beautiful place if you want to have quality time with your Family sitting on the deck and having sip of wine. Another point about the exotic place if like sunny weather. I would highly recommend you to go there on your summer vacation. If you have kids this is where you definitely go. If there were more than five star I could give him 10.

Would give 10 stars if I could! What a jewel. Pics don't do justice. An amazing waterfront cottage!!

Our family was in town for a family funeral so we were looking for a peaceful retreat in the water. What we found was so much more than that. We found a place of spiritual healing, joy and relaxation. You are just steps from the water with a large grassy yard, dock, large deck with plenty of seating to watch the fisherman and Canada right across the river! We were mesmerized each time a large freighter came by. The cottage itself is very roomy and comfortable, so quaint, fully stocked (even toys and games for kids) and we had room for all of our visiting family members. The greatest part of our stay was meeting the owners Pete and Karen. We have decided to adopt them into our family. Pete met us at 10pm to check in and even helped us unload! We enjoyed his company so much that we invited him for dinner! These are EXCEPTIONAL people. Make a point to say hi to Sandy and Clancy (the super friendly neighbor pups) We were sad to leave but we will be back!!!

Truly a gem! Exceeded our expectations!

We booked in this location initially to include a day trip to Detroit. Well, once we saw the beautiful house and location, we knew we would want to enjoy the waterfront as much as we could and just take in the area shopping, dining, etc. We absolutely loved it!!!! Pete and Karen could not be more welcoming and accommodating hosts. The house was BEAUTIFUL, very clean and the view of the ships and river were amazing! We had 7 people in the house and never once felt crowded. There is a table right in the riverfront room so you can eat your meals and look out and enjoy the scenic view. The kitchen was perfectly stocked with pots, pans, spices, etc. There were games and puzzles to enjoy too which was nice for evening. Great book collection too! They thought of everything and so many great touches! Pete and Karen were kind to give us suggestions on places to see, dine, shop, etc. and really get a local flavor of this trendy area. You don't want to miss Marine City and this house is just 5 minutes from the downtown area. We were treated as friends, not "renters". What a wonderful find and we definitely want to come back for a longer stay. We had a tremendous time and wonderful, fun memories were made.
