About this property
Ponderosa Cabin ~ rustic comfort + WiFi by Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks
The Ponderosa Cabin offers a rustic setting with vintage charm, along with modern amenities. After spending the day at nearby Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, enjoy cocktails on the spacious deck, a hot shower in the clawfoot tub, conversations by the cozy fireplace. Or just read and relax in the main bedroom downstairs or upstairs bedroom. The Ponderosa Cabin has gorgeous interior walls of knotty pine. And yes, there's Internet--when you need it. You’ll find a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of room in the cabin for up to 4 guests.
Our cabin, fondly named after the beautiful Ponderosa pine tree with golden bark, is nestled in a quiet setting. You may see wild turkeys up the hill in the morning or deer grazing at dusk at certain times of the year. At higher elevation in the National Parks you’ll find Ponderosa pines growing alongside giant Sequoias. It's a 20 minute drive to the entrance of Kings Canyon (Big Stump entrance) along Hwy 180. This is the best of all worlds: you have a gateway to the National Parks and a private setting in the woods. If you like the mountains, this is your retreat.
If there is snow at higher elevations in the winter or spring, tire chains could be required in the National Parks and on Hwy 180. Kings Canyon National Park is at 6000+ ft. elevation; it may be clear at the cabin but you could encounter snow as you head up into higher elevations.
Please remember this is not a hotel. Stairs to the upstairs bedroom are narrow and steep. Access to parks is convenient but local roads are winding. Note there's an unpaved road for a quarter mile leading to the cabin. There are no grocery stores or banks near the cabin, although there's a restaurant in walking distance. (Grant Grove Village in Kings Canyon NP is 30 minutes away by car, and there are gas stations, convenience stores and restaurants along Hwy 180.)

Nice & peaceful stay for our family. Cabin was nice & cozy. Communication with staff was easy & very helpful!👌 25min drive to Kings Canyon! And from there, General Highway that leads you to the beautiful sights & trees of the Sequoias. Beautiful & peaceful getaway!
So perfect if your vibe is getting away to a secluded cozy weekend!! a drive away from the parks and beautiful hikes, the cabinet itself is so woody and cozy, surrounded by woods and nature, we enjoyed cooking, lighting the fire and enjoying the peace and quiet. Li was so kind and make sure we have everything we needed. Would love to come again!!
We enjoyed our stay. We were fairly close to the national parks which was our priority. The host and manager were very responsive to our questions and/or concerns. One item of note-- you have to go into the main bedroom in order to use the bathroom.
Great little getaway only 15 or 20 minutes away from big stump entrance. Cabin is nestled away in a nice quiet area. Lots of Wildlife nearby. We even saw a wild Tom Turkey strutting his stuff on the hillside. The cabin had easy access to big stump entrance.
A darling little cabin in the woods with every detail attended to. The ultimate in cozy, comfy, and peaceful. We also appreciated all the notes around the cabin that gave us really helpful information. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!
Li's cabin is just a short (and beautiful) drive away from Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP. Everything is comfortable -- nice deck for breakfasts and dinner, great fireplace, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen. Li is a gracious host, and gave us all the directions and help we needed. A+
The Ponderosa Cabin was exactly what we hoped for and more. The house was very clean and well-kept. I booked this cabin because the photos showed beautiful trees right outside the windows, and it did not disappoint: the scenery was stunning. We even saw four deer right outside the cabin! Our host was incredibly attentive, checking in with us from the moment we made the reservation until after we checked out. Their communication made the whole stay feel smooth and cared for. Make sure to carefully read the instructions and important information that is sent. Highly recommend this cabin for a peaceful, scenic getaway.
My husband, adult daughter and I stayed at the cabin for three nights. Great location about 20 minutes outside Kings Canyon and 5 minutes down the road from Pinehurst Saloon. ( Burgers were good!) The cabin is rustic but in good working order, some fun and quirky deco. We would recommend a stay here.
Had a great time visiting the parks and using this as our home base. Grilled for dinners and enjoyed the porch. The listing is accurate - window unit AC in the main bedroom but it cooled down enough to sleep upstairs with fans. Li was really helpful and helped prepare for our stay. Enjoyed our time here
Super cute cabin, loved the furniture and decor. We definitely enjoyed the fireplace. Ladder/stairs to the loft bedroom were steep, so older or accident prone people (like me) just be aware. We saw deer and a flock of turkeys both mornings as we left. Super convenient to Kings/Sequoia. Pay attention to the directions provided! The driveway is very close to the turn from the highway, we missed it at first because the house numbers aren’t in a regular order.
Nice little cabin. If you looking for a place to be close to Kings Canyon this is a nice place. No TV's!! Nice place to relax on the porch and decompress! And the blackberries were an bonus!! Got a coupke bottles of jam out of it!
Very clean, nice little cabin for four. Two twin beds in a loft upstairs, and a queen bed downstairs in a separated bedroom. Good communication through host. Everything as advertised.
A traditional, western cabin in the woods. Very quiet and secluded. Takes you back in time. Many retro and unique objects to reminisce about. A truly unique experience.
Just what we needed! Silent, cozy, rustic hideaway, just 20 min's from Kings Canyon/Sequoia. Took gorgeous hikes each day, warmed up by the fire at night. Kitchen had everything we needed, and Li and Tali were always available, friendly, and generous with information and helpful tips. Thank you :)
My wife and I stayed which allowed us to beat the crowds to sequoia nat park to see morrow rock and giant trees . Then day 2 we beat the crowd to kings canyon.
The home had all that we needed. The ac kept the place cool even in 90 plus weather. Yes the dirt road is bumpy…so take it slow..the place is worth it.
We had a wonderful stay at this property. Remote location, beautiful night skies and well stocked kitchen. Some things to note, every lamp in the property has a different way to turn on. Many lamps were unplugged so we had to figure it out. I am glad we were with friends coz the house is 1/4 of a mile from the main road. We ended up locking the gate to the property while we were there too. The drive to the property is a winding downhill with many hairpin and steep curves (about 4.5 miles).Very quiet area, within nature and within peaceful surroundings.
Great communication and lots of good info/warnings,esp about the dirt road leading to the cabin. Good wifi. Located fairly near entrance to King's Canyon. Nice deck, esp on a sunny day, surrounded by trees and birdsong. Appreciated being able to charge our electric car.All the furnishings & linens were quite vintage. Main problem was that the cabin, bathroom floor, and (very old) kitchenware were not clean.
It was wonderful! The cabin was cozy and had all the amenities needed (except a pool!!! LOL!) The host, Li, was great, the most attentive host that I have encountered and I have experience with VRBO. The property manager, Tali, was fantastic as well, always available and very helpful. I would strongly recommend this property particularly if you are visiting KC and Sequoia NPs. This was the best experience with VRBO that I have had.

We really enjoyed this property. It is much like a camp which was comfortable and kitschy. If you are high maintenance, not the place for you but 99% of folks will love it. The outside deck is wonderful. Added 10 new birds to my life list. The most outstanding aspect of this property is the proximity to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. I am a Park Geek, so this was perfect. In addition, the host is one of the best we have worked with. Communication was excellent and instructions were complete and understandable. Cabin is well stocked, which isn't always the case. I would highly recommend this property.
Rustic older cabin in the hills and mountain area around Kings Canyon. All the right tools for the 3 nights we stayed. Wifi was necessary and appreciated as there is no connectivity for our cell phones. Extra towels, blankets, food, dishes, all made it great. Cabin was initially stuffy from being locked up, but we opened the windows and the back door for a few hours and it cleared up. My girls who stayed up in the loft kept the window open as it is extra warm and less air up there. Mornings were chilly and we used the extra blankets. The chirping birds and little lizards made the deck super fun. We had a blast. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Leading up to our trip, the host and caretaker communicated well and provided detailed directions and instructions that proved very helpful. Arriving at the cabin, surrounded by the beauty of nature, we were greeted by two of the caretakers and their adorably sweet dogs as they were finishing up clearing out some weeds and branches to make it as beautiful as possible for us. They were also picking some wild blackberries from the bushes along the driveway and shared some with us. They were so ripe and juicy and sweet!!! They quickly finished up as we were unpacking the car (with each trip back to the car, the puppers made sure to give us some love!) and cleared out to give us our privacy so we could get settled and enjoy our stay. They could not have been more kind and welcoming.
Upon first opening the cabin door we were hit with the heavenly scent that every wood cabin should have. Everything was very clean, drawers with supplies were labeled, and everything was well stocked and easy to find. Though we brought our own, the bathroom had quite a few toiletries, body wash, and shampoos. There were quite a few games in the corner, which we definitely took advantage of! We appreciated the fans and window AC units because we both run hot. The wood shed was well stocked should we want to build a fire in the beautiful fireplace. The grill on the deck worked perfectly and we absolutely made good use of it for meals. Relaxing on the deck was peaceful and invigorating.
We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin! It was beautiful, quiet, and peaceful—a perfect place to get away from distractions and truly relax.
We stayed for four days while exploring Kings Canyon, which was about 30 minutes away, and Sequoia National Park, about an hour away. The location was perfect for exploring both parks while still having a peaceful place to come back to at the end of the day.
The host was wonderful with communication and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. She also called before our booked dates to go over instructions and recommendations. We truly appreciated the hospitality and attention to detail.
We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. We would love to stay here again!
