Restaurant sehr enttäuschend. Ein Essen wurde völlig zurückgegeben, das zweite nur zu einem Viertel gegessen. Der Managerbefand es nicht für nötig, sich entsprechend zu entschuldigen. Das Personal sehr bemüht und freundlich.

Very Good Guesthouse

Das Gästehaus wirkte auf uns etwas vernachlässigt und war auch nicht sehr sauber. Schade - könnte man mehr draus machen. Das Hauptaugenmerk der Inhaber liegt wohl auf dem Restaurant. Das ist zu empfehlen und war gut besucht.

L'accueil n'est pas très chaleureux et souriant. La chambre n'est pas très grande et la salle de bain ne possède qu'une baignoire sans rideau. La piscine n'est qu'un petit bassin. La maison est de style ancien, très jolie. Tous ces inconvénients disparaissent grâce au talent de la cuisinière au restaurant. Tout est vraiment très bon et préparé avec soin.

Disappointing stay

What an utter disappointment. The guest house did not live up to expectations. Firstly, the proprietor (whom I phoned the afternoon) failed to inform me of massive roadworks which delayed my trip significantly. The food was supposed to be superb (and they proclaim fine dining quality) but it came close to being inedible at exorbitant prices. The worst aspect however was the incredible noise level. The guest house is on the corner of a busy road and you don't have a moment's peace. Even if it is the only accommodation available in Montagu, I will never stay there again.

Serene setting, delicious food

Four Oaks is a beautiful and serene family-run guest house with a babbling fountain in the courtyard and scrumptious breakfast. The attached restaurant has some of the best food and is a destination for travelers and locals. Simon was welcoming especially with a last minute booking and provided a garage for my car and answered all questions. Was a lovely stay

I didn't find the owner/manager particularly friendly, but he was polite and helpful nonetheless. Room was fine, I loved the fact they had DVDs in the room one could watch. I didn't like the fact I had a bath with a shower hose (which couldn't be hooked on to anything - you therefore have to hold on to it while trying to shower) and I therefore couldn't stand up to have a shower. The place was unfortunately not very sound proof, so I could hear them cleaning up in the kitchen after dinner service, I could hear trucks driving along the main road through the night and I could hear a house alarm going off at 12am. I therefore didn't have a great sleep. Oh and as breakfast is only served from 8am I missed out on this. I left around 6.30am and it was not a very well lit area, so packing the car was a little "airy". The place is fine to stay in but I think its more set up for travelers rather than business people.

Great hospitality

Guest house was good value for money and with an excellent restaurant attached. The family team were very welcoming and made us feel like on of the family during our stay which was over Christmas. We felt very comfortable at this guest house and would certainly recommend it to others.

Ne passez pas à côté du restaurant de ce B&B !

Jolie chambre d'hôte située au coeur de Montagu. Accueil d'abord un peu froid mais très agréable ensuite. Chambre de taille moyenne mais jolie, grande salle de bain en comparaison (il manque juste un rideau de douche peut-être). Jolie petite piscine, bien agréable après une chaude journée d'été. Mais surtout, très bon repas au restaurant de cette chambre d'hôte. Copieux, goûteux, belle présentation, jolie carte de vins régionaux, et même le vin au verre est excellent. Il n'est rien resté dans les assiettes, pas même une trace de sauce. Bon petit déjeuner aussi. Une halte bien agréable!

Great hosts!

This small guesthouse has recently been purchased by new owners. Their enthusiasm for Montagu and knowledge of the area is obvious---if you need recommendations from a local, you'll definitely get them here. It was great to stay at Four Oaks; we felt very much welcome. Also, the food was excellent (one of the owners is a cerfitied pastry chef!)
