"Old hotel with a a lot of history."

"A little hard to find, would definitely recommend a car but the room we had was a 3 floor condo. There was a room on the top floor which sleeps 3 on mattress on tatami mats, and 3 on a walk out lower level. The mattresses were comfortable but low ( I think they also offer European style beds) but we wanted a traditional experience. On the main level, there was a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, a 6 seater dining table and a small couch with a tv. There is also a balcony on this level. We had a bathroom with both a shower and deep tub and a separate toilet. There was plenty of room. There are several separate buildings in this hotel ( not recommended for those with mobility issues). In the main building they have a public onsen which becomes a private onsen after 10pm. You can book it for 1/2 hour intervals on check in. When it’s private you can have both male and female in the same onsen ( so my husband and I, along with the kids could all enjoy the experience together). Staff was sparse but helpful. Overall we had a great time and we even got to see Mt Fuji from the balcony early in the morning before it was covered by clouds."

"Excellent stay at The Prince. The hotel has little extra touches that make this a luxurious stay. The onsen is lovely with a great range of toiletries and The Lakeside Grill serves a delicious buffet dinner. Due to the location we opted against the Hakone loop with tons of tourists instead we did the boat cruise and ropeway from right next to the hotel. We also did the forest walk to the shrine (take water with you). A quiet area but perfect for a break after the craziness of Tokyo. Wished we were there for longer."

"We had a wonderful stay at Ten-yu. Our family absolutely loved the experience, it was incredibly relaxing, and the grounds were immaculate and peaceful to walk through. The food was fantastic, with a great variety of thoughtfully prepared options that made every meal enjoyable. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable, providing the perfect place to unwind. Having a private onsen on the balcony was a highlight for our family. It allowed us to spend quality time together while relaxing in a serene setting. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Ten-yu to anyone looking for a peaceful, luxurious, and memorable stay."

"We had an amazing stay at Ryuguden in Hakone as a couple. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly welcome with their exceptional hospitality and attention to detail. The Staff was amazing! The location is breathtaking, with stunning views of Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains, creating a peaceful and unforgettable atmosphere. Although Mount Fuji wasn't visible during our stay, the scenery was still spectacular. One of the highlights was the private onsen, which was an incredible and relaxing experience. It offered complete privacy while allowing us to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. We also loved the traditional kaiseki dinner and the Japanese breakfast. Every dish was beautifully presented, full of authentic flavors, and gave us a wonderful cultural experience. Ryuguden perfectly combines traditional Japanese hospitality, comfort, and natural beauty. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hakone, especially couples looking for a peaceful and memorable getaway."

"Overall, we had a great stay at this hotel in Hakone and would probably choose it again if we return. The only real downside is that there is no on-site staff. There is no one to receive or store your luggage before check-in, and the entire check-in process is done through a video call using a device at the entrance. You don’t interact with a staff member in person at any point during your stay. The hotel also doesn’t offer any additional amenities beyond what is already provided in the room. That said, the rooms are exceptionally spacious, very well equipped, spotless, and built to a high standard. Everything felt comfortable and well maintained. Even though we only stayed for a short time, we really enjoyed our stay and wished we had been able to spend more time there. Overall, if you’re looking for a large, clean, and comfortable place to stay in Hakone and don’t mind the fully self-service experience, this is an excellent choice."
