About this property

The Crag: On the Acadia National Park Border - Deck, Fire Pit, Steps to Trails

  • The Crag is a hiker's dream retreat where modern design meets the rugged granite landscape of Mount Desert Island. The home features a unique three-story layout giving you excellent separation and privacy for families or groups. Between the sun-filled social areas and the quiet bedroom retreats, you’ll find a home away from home with the peaceful, cozy soul of a quiet forest village.

The heart of the house is the open layout that flows naturally toward the expansive back deck, creating a seamless connection to the woods. It’s an ideal setting that trades the busy Bar Harbor noise for fresh mountain air and a modern home base for all your park adventures.

    LIVING AND ENTERTAINING
The main living area is designed for relaxing after a long day on the trails. With comfortable plush sofas and plenty of natural light, it is a great spot for the group to gather, stream movies on the smart TV, chat about the day’s hike or enjoy the forest views through the large picture windows.

And when the weather is nice, the "real" living room is the massive deck, offering a private Sun-dappled oasis to take in the sights and sounds of the Maine woods.

    KITCHEN AND DINING
Built for groups who love to cook, the kitchen gives you a bright and modern space featuring full size stainless steel appliances with an array of cookware and utensils. The space features a professional grade Viking range. Whether you are prepping a family feast or a quick breakfast before heading to the trails, you’ll have everything you need, including a dishwasher for easy cleanup.

When it comes time to eat, the dining area delivers gorgeous views overlooking the rocky landscape, and the outdoor deck provides a scenic alfresco dining spot for meals in the fresh air.

    BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
The Crag offers exceptional group privacy across three distinct levels. Each of the first two floors features its own dedicated bedroom and full bathroom, while the third-floor Sky Loft serves as a secluded 'Summit' suite for those seeking total quiet. The primary suite features a king bed, an ensuite bath with a deep soaking tub and direct access to the deck.

The ground-floor "Base Camp" offers a private Guest Room with dual twin beds and a dedicated full bath. Ascend the Sky Passage to the third floor "Sky Loft." This secluded architectural suite features a Queen bed and reading nook. While the entrance is open to the top landing to maximize light and airflow, the entire level is dedicated to this suite, offering a private "Summit" view of the village.

With two full bathrooms and an additional half bath conveniently located for shared use, the home easily accommodates groups without the morning rush.

    LAUNDRY
To keep your gear ready for the next hike, a dedicated laundry suite with a stacked washer/dryer and soaking sink is located on the main second level. It is a convenient space to refresh your outdoor layers or beach towels, ensuring you stay prepared for every adventure.

    OFFICE AND WORKSPACE
If you need to stay productive, the main floor sitting area includes a dedicated desk area with strong high-speed Wi-Fi. This quiet, sunlit corner is a great spot to catch up on emails or plan your next route while the rest of the group relaxes on the deck around the corner.

    OUTDOOR SPACES
The outdoors is where The Crag truly shines, acting as your own private gateway to the National Park. The centerpiece is the massive scenic deck, built upon the granite ledges provide you an expansive, secluded oasis set against a backdrop of wild Maine woods, meaning your backyard is Acadia. The deck is fully equipped with a high quality gas grill and plenty of seating, making it the ultimate chill out spot for sunset dinners and relaxation.

Just off the deck, the natural rocky yard features a Solo Stove fire pit nestled among the trees giving you the perfect spot for stargazing or roasting s'mores just steps from the park boundary.

And because you are only 0.2 miles from the Cadillac Mountain South Ridge trailhead, the transition from your morning coffee to the summit of Acadia is as simple as walking out the back door!

    ATTENTION OTHER THINGS TO NOTE!

The Crag’s vertical design features three levels. Guests ascend the main stairs from the entry to reach the "Social Heart," then the "Sky Passage" to reach the "Summit." This layout may be a hurdle for those with limited mobility. A ramp from the deck provides easier access to the forest fire pit. The third-floor suite is an architectural loft open to its private landing. Natural forest canopy and provided fans ensure a cool, comfortable mountain retreat without central AC.

This is the perfect place to unplug and recharge and while high speed Wi-Fi is provided for all your streaming and navigation needs, please note that cell service in the village is often very spotty and weak.

    NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS
