Charming Bear Paw Cabin with Spectacular View of Lake Hiwassee
This was the dam superintendent's home where such guests as President Roosevelt stayed when he visited the Hiwassee Dam. Years later Navy Seals stayed in the house when they were training in the area.
We bought and Hilltop because of its outstanding view of the lake and the mountains. We added a bedroom and 2 new bathrooms to make it our fit our family. Now it has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms! It is located on a mountain top in the gated community of Bear Paw on Lake Hiwassee. It is in walking distance of the tennis courts, pool, basketball court, children's playground and fishing pond. The nearby marina has boats available for rent.
The delightful cabin has all you need for a peaceful vacation. The kitchen with its granite countertops is ready for cooking. You will find everything you need for preparing and serving meals except the food. There are four bedrooms with 2 doubles, 2 queens and two twin beds. The cabin has wireless internet, so it makes it easy to check your email. The large screen porch provides an ideal spot to drink your morning coffee or watch the sunset over the lake. On the porch you will find a wonderful farm table for great meals and enjoyment. This is a family friendly house with books to read and games to play. We welcome you to sample our “little bit of heaven”.

FAVORITE STAY IN A TRADITIONAL FAMILY VACATION IN BEAR PAW NC
This house has become our favorite stay place in our 47 year traditional family vacation. Easy access, great property manager, ample room for our part of the family group. Well equipped, with internet/ wifi and streaming TV, all the kitchen utinsels one could possibly hope for. Really enjoyed our stay.
Quiet, cozy, with a wonderful view and completely stocked with everything to make your stay a total success. Bruce was a joy to work with and really jonny in the spot
The screened in porch is fantastic! Great view, large porch, many comfortable rocking chairs. A really nice congregation spot, with a table and chairs to eat meals at.
Beds were comfortable throughout. And if there is one thing you never have to worry about it is you will have all the bath towels you will need!
We had our family reunion at Bear Paw resort, all 48 of us, and the houses are reasonably close together. Thus, it lends itself to hosting such a gathering.
Our host, Bruce, was always available, and super easy to work with.
So much space, clean, and great service. The kids loved it and we look forward to coming back!

Lovely cabin!
Beautiful cabin and lovely view! We really enjoyed spending Thanksgiving week with our family! Everything was perfect! So thankful to the owners for sharing their beautiful place!
Our 46th annual family vacation to Bear Paw was a great time. We had some great lake time, but heavy rains during the week shortened the normal. That made the location of our stay important, and the Hilltop Cabin was perfect for family time during the rainy periods.
This is a Great location with a great view it was to amazing all around it fit all my family great, it looks small from the outside but it’s vary roomy the only thing would be if they can update some of the beds to more comfy beds but other then that EVERYTHING WAS AWSOME 💓💓💓

Perfect family cabin with spectacular view!
The cabin was clean and the owners made sure lights were on for our late arrival. We ate most meals on the large screened in porch with a great view of the lake and mountains. The location was an easy drive for apple picking at Mercer Orchards and Murphy. We will certainly look to stay here again in the future. The cabin is well stocked with most anything you'd need for lots of cooking and family time. The owners were very helpful and responsive to any questions we had.

Wonderful cabin!
My family of 8 loved our stay at Hilltop. The cabin was so clean and well stocked, the beds were very comfortable, and the community was friendly! We loved having three bathrooms as well. The large screened porch was wonderful, we were out there all the time. The internet and phone service was spotty but it wasn't a huge problem. My son didn't pull out his laptop all week! Thanks Ellen!

Perfect getaway for the family
We brought 8 adults, our toddler, and our dog to this house for 5 days and it was perfect! The pictures do not do it justice. The porch is huge... lots of rocking chairs and looks right at the lake with mountains behind it. The inside is charming and has plenty of room. The view is great and a short 2 miles to the marina. We walked it with no problem. Very clean, very relaxing, and quiet. You won't regret it.
Our family, including my father, traveled to Fort Benning to watch our son graduate basic training and then spent a few days vacationing at the hilltop. The home itself exceeded what my expectations were and we all enjoyed our stay, The porch area was a family favorite to relax on, it our dinner on and the view was perfect from the porch. The kitchen was well stocked and the kids had a great time eating snores off if the fire pit. Mrs. Banks was always very helpful in answering all of my questions and was very accommodating. My father who has not traveled in 16 years is already talking about how he can go back! It was a great time for all of us ages 3 to 72!!

We were all so impressed with the cabin. It is perfect for a family vacation!
Rented the second week of July 2018. From the moment we entered we were blown away by how comfortable and charming we found the cabin. Pictures truly do not do it justice. The four bedrooms and three baths were a luxury with 8 adults and 3 children. Everyone had space and privacy if needed. The beds are all excellent. The whole cabin is stocked with everything you could need and more. The kitchen is perfect. The porch is the real highlight. Children played games on the table and the adults reveled in the evening views of the lake, the mountains, and the sunsets.
So convenient also to the marina where we rented a pontoon for three days. The lake is pristine and it seemed at times if we were the only people on the water.
One of the best vacations ever. We will be back! The Banks are so responsive and truly understand Southern hospitality.
Our Georgia graduate kids didn’t even seem to mind that they are Alabama fans!!!! If you’re from Georgia you get that is truly high praise!

July 2020: Rented this house to replace vacation to New York that was cancelled due to corona virus. We did a general search for accommodations in the mountains to get out of Florida heat. This house and its location was a perfect match. We wanted to be respectful to the people in North Carolina and stay in or near cabin, which was easy to accomplish. We brought food and drink for the week. (I think the grocery store is 25 miles or minutes away.) We brought a slow cooker (I did not notice one there, but also was not looking for one) so we wouldn't be spending a lot of time in the kitchen. We did rent a boat for 2 days on the lake and paddle boards, kayaks for a third day. The lake was gorgeous. The water was perfect: warm but refreshing. When not on the lake, we were on the porch of the house that overlooks the lake. It got warm in the afternoon for a short period but never felt too hot to be outside. There was a cabinet full of games and we brought some of our favorites from home. Before we knew it, the week was over.
The house was beautiful and descriptions were accurate. Kitchen well appointed. Had plenty of paper goods and cleaning supplies. Beds were comfortable (we did have to bring our own blankets due to corona virus and we did use them at night). House was clean.
The owner was very pleasant. We will definitely come back.
Very happy with our stay. View from the large screened porch was great. House was one the old Bear Paw houses, but it was comfortable, well maintained, and the appliances/ furnishings were excellent.
Beautiful views! The house was clean, the host was easy to get in touch with and responded promptly, checking in was simple, and you just can't beat the view from the porch.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we could have possibly needed.
The porch had a beautiful view, but would have enjoyed it more if the outdoor heater had been working.
Overall, very nice stay with great accomodations.
