The Heard House - downtown Murphys

The Heard House, in the heart of downtown Murphys, is a sweet, single-level cottage completely rebuilt in 2008 with all the charm and character of a bygone era, thoughtfully updated with today's comforts and conveniences. Easy walking distance to everything downtown, including the Murphys Hotel, shops and restaurants, two dozen wine tasting rooms, community park and river. Located on a sunny and fenced 1/3 acre parcel in a residential neighborhood just one block off Main Street, the cottage is nicely set back at the rear of the property and hidden from the street, so you have all the privacy you crave, without the traffic and noise issues of downtown. The open and airy living room has vaulted ceilings and a toasty gas fireplace. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking and entertaining, with coffee beans, half and half, teas and spices, a vintage gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, and breakfast bar seating. Five star amenities like chocolates by the bedside, fresh flowers, snacks and free WIFI have it stand out from the rest. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed, with down comforter and duvet cover. The bathroom has vaulted ceilings, skylight, a clawfoot tub/shower combo, hair dryer, and hotel toiletries. Split unit Heating and AC, ceiling fans in the living room and bedroom, and a gas fireplace for your comfort. Private deck with bench seating and an umbrella-shaded table is the perfect spot for relaxing with your morning coffee, plus a gas BBQ, outdoor shower and a horseshoe pit you’re welcome to use. Relax and enjoy watching the squirrels, birds, turkeys and occasional deer that frequent a large, open area behind our property, or grab a night time beverage and take in the starry sky. Fully fenced yard, and at times it will be shared with our dog. If you're looking for somewhere special to relax and unwind, the Heard House is a perfect place to call home

Amazing location

Very cute property great yard wrap round porch. Love that it’s dog friendly. We don’t leave our puppy behind when we take vacations. He’s a part of the family and enjoy the the owners allow it. Great location just a two minute walk from downtown Murphy’s and all of the wonderful restaurants nearby.

Quiet, private place just a block off the Main Street. Well appointed, and definitely dog friendly. Would definitely stay again!

On the whole, it was a great property very quiet and lots of windows. I didn’t care for the gas stove, which left a smell in the house. I enjoyed how the house was decorated, and the patio was pleasant to sit on. All the supplies I needed were there. It wasn’t easy to drag my heavy luggage, my wheeled luggage up the gravel driveway, up the flagstone steps, and up the stairs.

Super charming and great location

A very charming and lovely cottage in a terrific location. This is the second unit on the property; during our stay, the owner was not in the front house, so it was very private. If total privacy is important, I recommend checking before booking.

The Sequel

My wife and I really like the location of this place. It is walking distance to down town, and the street is very quiet. The amenities are great, and it just a peaceful place to stay. This is the second time staying there, and the owner is responsive and really great to work with. I look forward to staying there again.

Relaxing gold country stay

The Heard cottage is well back from the road nestled into the yards of surrounding properties giving a secluded feel to the location. The cottage is well equipped and located in easy walking distance to everything Murphy’s!

Weekend away with my daughter

My daughter and I loved our brief weekend stay here. We were meeting friends for a birthday weekend so spent unfortunately not enough time at this beautiful property. I wish we had more time so plan to book a return without social obligations to enjoy this wonderful little space with my daughter .

If you want to come to Murphys this is the place to stay. It is close walking distance to the town. We had a wedding to attend and we walked to it and home. This is not a party place, and nor should it be. Perfect for a couple's getaway. Lots of wineries and shops. The amenities were great and the price reasonable. We will stay here again.

Retreat

Quiet, relaxing and peaceful. Just the retreat from my busy life that I needed. My dog loved the yard and we spent quite a bit of time playing fetch. 5 stars and I will be back!

Heard house

The cabin was very clean and had all sorts of amenities. The bed was comfortable. Wish they had darker curtains since the porch lights stayed on. We were not a fan of having to park on the street. Was worried someone would sideswipe our vehicle. Glad it wasn't raining since the passenger couldn't just climb back in to the car. It was quiet and peaceful. Beautiful place overall.

Cute cottage one block from downtown

The cottage is far back in the backyard of the main house. You don't even realize there is another home on the property except that you need to walk past it on the way in. Bed was comfy and the patio was nice. The kitchen had everything we needed. There is some poison oak sprouting up here and there in the yard/hedges so make sure to stay clear of it especially if you bring a dog. It took about 5 minutes to walk to the main street. The drive to the grocery was also about 5 minutes. We enjoyed driving up the hill to the wineries.

Cute cottage

We picked this location because of its proximity to downtown Murphy’s. Everything was walkable which so nice. The parking at the rental wasn’t great. The listing speaks of ample street parking but it’s a narrow street so I didn’t love feeling like my car could get side swiped at any moment. The cottage itself was adorable. There were a lot of nice touches like fall decor, welcome snacks, awesome water pressure and fresh flowers. On the feedback side, there wasn’t Kleenex. Luckily I had some in my bag. There was also a broken lock on one of the bedroom windows. It’s a safe location but I still don’t love that. There was also an ironing board and no iron so thankfully I had packed an alternative shirt to wear. It’s also literally in someone’s backyard so when the family at the main home was there, it was a bit awkward when we were coming and going.

Cozy Cottage

We loved our stay, the place is very comforable and quiet. A very short walk to town and a short drive to many places. There is a farmers market every Sunday in the park, we thought we were on the set of a Hallmark movie.
