The place is all about location, location, location, situated at the southern end of Lake Myvatn, with short drives to most of the attractions in the area, to say nothing of some fabulous scenery, especially along the southern and eastern sides of the lake. There is very little competition in the area to speak of, so if you’re looking for accommodations, this hotel will be among a handful of contenders, and probably the best of the lot. In staying here, in avoiding disappointment, one needs to think small (despite the not so small overnight rate)—the room is small, just large enough to hold the bed, a clothes hanger in the walk, and a small desk (no, there’s no TV, but then you didn’t decide to visit here to watch TV, did you?); the bathroom is small, able to handle only one person at a time; and the corner shower is very small, able to negotiate comfortably only people of slight build and diminutive size. The restaurant on site serves both dinner and breakfast. The dinner menu offers limited choices (lamb being one of them, of course), but is of acceptable quality (there are slim pickins’ otherwise other there for evening meal alternatives). Breakfast is good by Icelandic standards, offering cereal, oatmeal, various meats and cheeses, fruits, and beverages. Harder to come by is the orange juice that is supposed to be available. If we were in the area again, would we stay there? Given the alternatives, absolutely.
