This exuberant neighbourhood is near a historic theatre and a former holiday home for plantation owners that complement the university and shops.

Hillsboro Village is a charming zone filled with boutiques and historic homes in the southern part of Nashville. The area has a youthful and bohemian vibe, with Belmont University nearby. Vist Hillsboro Village to chat with the young and creative locals for insights into cultural and other events.

At the northern end of the district of Belmont/Hillsboro Village is the impressive Belmont Mansion, which was built by plantation owners in the 19th century as a holiday home. Go on a guided tour of the villa to appreciate its Italian style and impressive paintings and sculptures. Talk with the docents about the history of the Acklen family and the slaves who were forced to work here.

Today the villa is part of Belmont University, which is open for campus visits during active semesters. See how the students live in the residence halls and admire the leafy and spacious campus.

A little west of the university is Belcourt Theatre, which first opened in 1925. Enjoy wine and snacks and watch a documentary or art-house film in this upscale cinema.

For an outdoor activity, bring your little ones to the playground in Fannie Mae Dees Park, a short walk west of the theatre. Take photos of the colourful dragon sculpture in the play area and relax in this tranquil haven.

Visit The Village Chapel space to see how faith and worship are adapted to suit the modern and alternative ways in Hillsboro Village. This welcoming nondenominational church streams its services live for those who can’t be physically present.

Hillsboro Village is a little south of the city centre of Nashville. Take a bus from the heart of the municipality to get here in about 15 minutes. Travel around the outskirts of the city to see other areas such as Bellevue, Green Hills and The Gulch.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The location to Music City Center was excellent. The room was basically clean, but I did find a bug crawling on the wall one night and the chair and desk area could be cleaned (not just wiped).
