"We had a warm welcome from the owner, and the apartment we stayed in was a good size, with a separate bedroom and living/kitchen area. The apartment is above a garage (separate to the rest of the hostel) and below the owners living area. "We recently stayed at Estrellas de Gredos and were really disappointed. The place has stunning mountain views and a traditional curved ceiling, but a lot of things went wrong. The biggest issue was a broken sliding door that wouldn’t lock. When we told the staff, they showed up unannounced at 22:00 and just said it was safe to leave it unlocked, which didn't sit right with us. The inside felt cheap too. "Excellent location if you like hiking - the mountains and countryside were on the doorstep. Run by an enthusiastic and very genial ornithologist. Slight miscommunication on check in that cost us an extra €20 which was unforeseen and a little annoying but we were happy to pay it. Service from staff was exceptional and the food served in the bar was delicious. TV didn’t work in the bedroom and a fan would have been welcome as it was hot when we stayed. "
