The hotel is in an excellent location, not far from Grand Central Station which is great if you need easy transport links. The hotel has a wow-factor upon walking in as the lobby and surrounding areas are very spacious and grand.
However, the hotel grandeur is let down somewhat by the rooms, as the room we stayed in looked rather outdated. The showerhead on the bathroom wall was loose, the air conditioning unit was quite cumbersome and noisy, especially when you're trying to sleep and there was a broken draw in the unit, which we had reported but were informed the staff were already aware of this but had not been repaired. The room did not have a kettle which was a bit of a let down as it would have been nice to have come back and had a hot drink after a day of wandering around New York, taking in all the sights.
The beds are lovely and comfortable, the room was clean and the view from the window onto the busy streets of New York City was wonderful. Overall, the room was fine for our short stay as we were not in the room during the day at all, but it could definitely do with a bit of an update to match the rest of the hotel.
The hallways were pleasant and the staff were generally helpful and friendly. We were notified that unfortunately one of the three lifts was not in service so this slowed things down slightly when trying to get to and from your room, especially when people are checking in, as the lifts were not the quickest and it is a large hotel with lots of guests.
