Firstly, the staff was excellent -- very friendly and helpful. The pool area was great and it's right on the beach which was great as well. You can also walk across to the other Riu which has a casino which was fun.
As far as the rooms go, they could definitely use a facelift. Our room had cracks in the sink, chips in the mirror, the curtains did not fully close, the shower did not drain well (so it pooled while taking a shower), and the mattress hard as a rock. The food was by far the worst part of this property. We paid for the all inclusive but ended up going out to dinner most nights because the food was not good at all, other than maybe the breakfast buffet.
Overall we would not stay here again, but appreciate the hard work of all the staff. They were the shining stars!
