Nice, quiet place to stay with family or friends.
Fairly good place to spend with family. A little dated but cost effective for low budgets. The shower is small but the living area is a good size. Outside ther's also pleanty of space to have a bbq and play with the kids.

Lovely to be able to have the dog at the accommodation. A fence around the cabin's yard would be a huge improvement. Cabin is basic but fine. Would have preferred to see hard floors over carpets given pets are allowed inside.

Quiet, private cabins, ideal for larger families.
Very spacious in and out, particularly the kitchen/living area where you have a nice gas fireplace. Beds were comfortable. Toilet is dated but OK. At night, the wooden floors are very noisy, as is the metal roof when it rains a good shower. Overall, great value considering the privacy of the property and large outside area where the whole family can play.

Do not Accept Bookings from Luke Jennings of Kurri Kurri or his fiancee Natalee Chapman of Cessnock. Booking for 2 adults although 3 adults 3 children and baby stayed without any payment received. Their supplied credit card rejected, they then sent a false bank "payment" by MMS without a receipt number. After I advised payment had not been received they informed that they had contacted their bank and it was being sent. Their booking was for 2 adults with any extra person at additional charge. I noticed that there was 3 children in the car they lied by saying the children did not sleep the night. After going to the cottage an unannounced 3rd adult was in the cottage with a baby who informed that the other 3 children had in fact been staying and sleeping the whole time although that she "had slept in the car". I contacted Natalee who again denied that the children had stayed the night. After further discussions she finally advised that not 3 but 2 children and the other adult had slept in the cottage. After their departure and with no payment received any further contact by me to them has not been answered and after leaving numerous messages without a return call.

This is a great farm stay which is perfect for those families who have kids who love to run & play. Quite ! Why not give the place a go
I was quite happy to lodge at the Hunter Hideaway Cottage It was private and quite which I was looking for . While it’s not modern, I would still recommended staying if you need a base and don’t want to be disturbed It’s isolated enough to just kick back and take in the local scrub land. It’s easy to get about the Hunter Vineyards. There is a coffee shop up the road about 5 minutes by car if you wanted to grab a coffee before starting the day. But otherwise the place is fully equipped to make your own Paul the owner was friendly and helpful,

Very poorly presented cottage.
We had issues from the start, to list a few: The TV would work. There were copious amounts of Ants, bull ants outside and sugar ants inside. There is no way to lock the door from the inside, hence very poor security. The bunk beds do not have rails, and the ladders are extremely dangerous. The feather pillows are shedding, which results in being stabbed in the face every time you move. The bathroom had a bolt protruding from the floor, which my wife stood on and cut a hole in her foot. The kitchen utensils were very old and of very poor quality. The stove did not work. The smoke detector did not work. The general cleanliness of the cabin was not up to scratch, and there was dust on all flat surfaces and spiderwebs on all picture frames. The 1 positive was the location, it was quiet and close enough to the hunter valley.
Stayed 2 nights in Mar 2018
Response from Paul on 16 Mar 2018
Hello Bradley, Thank you for the information as we don't have the ability while cleaning to check all the problems you encountered. The TV is being replaced although we found out it was a dirty connection with the remote was the problem. We cant do lot about the meat ants outside although around the BBQ has been sprayed as well the inside has been sprayed. A slight adjustment of the lock has got it working. The bunk bed ladder has a rail which is at the end of the single beds and can be moved to use as a rail depending on the age of children. They are not always in place as the beds are used for adults and older children as well. Three of the four stove stop rings were working and the 4th is now being replaced. After checking the smoke detector which is hard wired which means it works although a previous guest had turned the battery around without informing they had done so. Battery has been replaced and test button is now working as well. In the week prior to your stay some long time visitors whose favourite cottage was the cottage you stayed in, advised that they really enjoyed their stay and noticed that new pillows have been purchased within the last 6 months as well as lounges and new blinds in all rooms were installed this month. In the email you sent advising that you and your family enjoyed your 2 night weekend stay and once again thank you for advising of these issues which now thanks to you have been addressed.

Beds
The description of the beds was inaccurate. On asking for clearer descriptions we found that 4 twin beds actually meant 2 queens and a sofa bed which did not suit us so we chose a cottage with 2 queens and 2 single beds however, the 2 single beds turned out to be bunks which for a group of women in our 60s was a challenge. Otherwise it is comfortable clean budget accommodation and it that is what you want then I would recommend it.

Relaxation and fun
This was my 4th visit to hunter hideaway cottages since 2013 and it remains as a favourite holiday destination. The cottage was clean, tidy and had everything that we needed. Plenty of kitchen stuff and enjoyed the new couch and new bed spreads. The cottages are lovely and rustic and that's what we loved. No need for Internet or foxtel when your in such a gorgeous environment. We spent most of our time outdoors and enjoyed sitting on the balcony with the sun streaming in and in the evening sitting around the camp fire. Plenty of seating available. My sons loved gathering sticks to build the camp fire and did not watch one minute of tv as they were so busy playing outside. We enjoyed walking in the paddocks and spotting kangaroos. We went to snow time in the gardens which was great and visited Audrey . Wilkson. The pet shop in Braxton was amazing with loads of birds, fish along with piglets, puppies and guinea pigs in pens that you could pat. I hesitated when making this review as I feel this place is so very special and undiscovered! I don't want to miss out in the future! Thank you to Paul for giving my family the opportunity to experience a lovely few days of fun and exploring. We will be back and can't wait!

nice place but not what we thought it was
Cottage was old, there were cockroaches throughout the kitchen. Literally everywhere. The fly screens on the Windows had holes all through them and the cottage was full of moths and mozquitos at night making it uncomfortable to sleep. There were dead flies in the kitchen and a wasp got in through the fly screens which was a worry having a 3 yr old with us.
Response from Paul on 19 Feb 2016
Hi Matt, Thank you for bringing the pest problem to my attention. Professional baits have now been placed to eradicate and hopefully remove the problem. The 2 window screens with small holes have now also been replaced. Hopefully this will also help to minimize the moths and mozzies although in summer if the lounge room lights are on, moths and mozzies enter even with all screens closed it is usually best to close the windows as they are attracted to the light.

Great family hideaway close to lots of wineries.
Nice cabin in a quiet location with lots of open areas for kids to play. Only issue was occasional smell in kitchen/living room and noisy noisy floorboards (particularly at night).
Response from Paul on 19 Feb 2016
Hi Fernando, Glad that you enjoyed your stay and that the kids had plenty of room to run around. Sorry about the smell it was from the previous guest who stayed the night before you (New Years Eve) using the self contained kitchen. They use lots of spices etc it usually takes a day or 2 of airing to eliminate. As the cottages were fully booked you couldn't be moved to another cottage. I hope you got to see the Kangaroos at Dusk and Dawn.

Pleasant Stay at Hunter Hideaway Cottages
Hunter Hideaway Cottages are 4 self contained huts on a rural property 5 minutes outside Branxton, just off the New England Hwy or M15 Motorway, so its well located to do things in the Branxton / Maitland and surrounding wineries area. Our hut was very clean and comfortable. We were only there one night and it would have been nicer to have a couple of nights more to relax. Our hire car GPS didn't seem to know about the M15 Motorway and took us all over the place, but Paul the owner gave us directions over the phone to solve our dilema. The cost was reasonable compared to a motel, and I would definitely stay there again if in that region.

Nice bush stay
Overall we had a good stay, the first evening we started to hear noises in the wall cavity (where the insulation is) on the west side of the cabin, where the bed heads are, I thought it was a colony of mice and called the owner, he advised there are microbats living there. I beleive we should of been informed of this as they make loud noises most of the night as there are probably 100's of microbats there. The owner said I have been meaning to place a sign in the cottage to inform people unfortunately this is something that should be advised before you check in.
Hello Daniel, Glad you had a had a nice stay. Thank you for feedback about the slight noise that can be sometimes heard in the western walls. Critically endangered micro bats have set up in the wall cavity. A Newcastle Uni study has been done on these little creatures & advises that they should not be disturbed. They hibernate in winter & active during the evening other times. Sorry that you were not notified before check in, as most guest do not hear them I did not think it was required. Cheers Paul
