AMAZING ocean view with incredible sunrises and so much entertainment watching the seals every day! The house was extremely comfortable and had a homey feeling, for our group of 4 adults!
Phil made us feel right at home in his oasis of a place on St. Margaret’s Bay. The beds & pillows and location of rooms overlooking the ocean with peaceful wave sounds at night provided the best sleep we have had in a long time. The view and sunrise were absolutely stunning & we wished we could have stayed longer. This was the tranquil getaway much needed. Sights, sounds, smells all worth staying here. We saw deer, cormorants diving, & heard lovely birds. It was so spacious and we plan to return with our kids. Thank you, Phil.
We had such a great time here in 2021 on a work retreat that we came back in 2024. The cottage was great and secluded.
The small beach down the road is wonderful and the sunrises are unforgettable!
It doesn't get any closer to the eater than this! We loved spending time outside enjoying the view. It was very private and exactly what we hoped it would be.
We had a great stay in a wonderful location on an island. When you go there the trip is already a great adventure. The view and the surrounding is spectacular. The house is very nice and have everything you need. The host really takes care and it feels like a huge welcome to Canada!
If you are looking for a relaxing get away spot with the sound of the ocean to accompany your day but with all the commodities of a modern home (no tv, good thing) then look no further!
This property is exactly as described and much more. The location is remote, quiet, and an amazing view. Perfect for seeing the sunrise and disconnecting from your normal day today. It was also very clean. Phil was incredibly responsive, helpful and a wonderful host. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a place that is off the beaten path.
This property has the most amazing view. Phil was delightful and kindly started the firepit for us each night. The house was super clean and as advertised. This place is really off the beaten path down a gravel private drive and over a wooden bridge. We had no problems traversing the driveway to get to the house. There is a grocery store, liqour store and restaurants within15 km. Great stay. The quiet locationwas so woth it. There are st
This is a beautiful house in a gorgeous location. My granddaughter and I loved the views of the cove and the bay, and the location is great for day trips to other areas of south-central Nova Scotia. We were delighted to have a visitor one morning while having breakfast: a seal appeared in the cove, directly in front of the house, and we watched it for nearly an hour. Along with the various sea birds, and the beautiful views all around, we simply loved the place. It is very comfortable, peaceful, and secluded. Phil is an excellent host, ready with recommendations for restaurants and helpful advice. Red Roof is an outstanding place for a getaway vacation in Nova Scotia.
If you like going off the beaten path and taking the road less travelled…then this is absolutely the sanctuary you are looking for! A private cove with no neighbours to speak of this place is perfect to escape the frenetic pace of the world. It is perfectly situated to easily get to places like Halifax, Peggy’s cove, Lunenburg and mahone Bay. The house is well cared for and very clean, the kitchen is decently outfitted. The host met us promptly and gave us all kinds of tips for the area and showed us around. He was quick to answer text questions and super helpful. Thanks for a wonderful place to stay!
So restful and an astoundingly gorgeous location. Couldn't be happier with the stay, the house, the area, and Phil gave such good advice! We had a glitch with the stove (our problem, not the stove) and he popped over to straighten us out in a flash. Finding the place in the dark was a bit of a challenge; if you have cell coverage, it should be fine. Otherwise, it is wise to examine a map very carefully before you set off (in the dark).
We loved everything about our stay! We were at the red roof for two nights and wish we would of booked a week! The views are wonderful. The location is peaceful and quiet with amazing wildlife views! We saw seals, birds, jumping fish, etc. We arose early to colorful and beautiful sunrises! The house is open and full of light and clean! We cooked in the kitchen both nights and everything we needed was there. Wish we had time for an outside fire and to use the grill. Phil and Catherine are awesome hosts and people! Friendly, welcoming and helpful! We cant wait to go back to the Red Roof and to visit our new "host" friends! If you are looking to be with nature, this is the right place!
Bring your groceries and leave your worries behind. This out-of-the-way vacation cottage is a great place to settle in and watch the waves. We spotted seals, eagles and fishing boats gliding past. The road onto the island, with it's twists, turns and one-lane bridge, adds to the charm. The property provides a sense of isolation but neighbours are nearby if needed. The owner is super-friendly and was reachable throughout our stay. The cottage is well-equipped and quickly feels like home. The fireplace cannot be beat on a chilly fall evening and easily made up for the lack of a TV. Cell coverage was good for us throughout our stay. A couple of things to note in the description: There are two bathrooms but only the downstairs one has a shower. The laundry in the cottage is not for guest use, though laundry service is available. We would definitely come here again.
What a unique location this was. Located on a small island and one of only a few places around. A hidden gem. The owner, Phil, lives right across the road and was available and helpful with all needs. The house itself was great with newer appliances and all was all was very clean.
This place is right on the ocean in a small little bay that was very beautiful for swimming and snorkeling. That being said, it is a rocky shoreline and not the easiest to enter the water, especially at low tide. It would not be a good spot for little kids, however, there are many nice beaches within a 10 minute drive.
Traveling around the south shore attractions was east from this location and there were tonnes of things to see with an hours drive in either direction.
I would not hesitate to return to this place in the future.
I cannot express how absolutely gorgeous the property is! My three young adult kids actually gasped when we turned into the driveway and saw the view. Very comfortable home, clean and accommodating and Phil was a great host! The area is quiet and remote but close enough to sites like Peggy's Cover for a day trip. Highly recommend this property!!
The only thing we had some confusion over was the laundry situation. Listing states a washer and dryer so we just assumed we could do our own load when we arrived. However, the are not for guest use - laundry is available as an added service which we thought could be an add on if we didn't feel like doing our own. No big deal but jsut be aware! :)
Thanks Phil for a fabulous stay! Will never forget my afternoon watchin two seals frolic right in front of the house!
We absolutely loved our stay at the red roof. It was immaculate and the view was breathtaking. Phil was very kind and helpful. Would highly recommend this home to anyone
Superb position and very comfortable house. Lovely to just watch the changing sky and sea colours and the crystal clear night sky. Phil is a great host as well.
