We spent a lovely weekend in Hunter Valley Lodge and retreat at the start of the April school holidays. Our group consisted of 6 families -27 ppl. The lodge and retreat is stylist, beautiful and clean, it feels like you are in Aspen. My favorite part was the extremely well setup in the kitchen as someone who loves to cook and appreciates great kitchenware this hit my sweet spot. The kids enjoyed the Bison Den and spent a lot of time playing pool, ping pong and hanging out. The pool and spa also got a workout but for the middle of April, it is not heated and was a tad chilly for the adults to partake. Instead, the adults gathered in the ‘Game’ room (self named due to the stuffed animals on the walls). A few drops of wine and nibbles were consumed in this comfortable room. Beds were comfortable, in the upstairs Lodge all bedrooms had Ensuites. I liked the hotel style body wash, shampoo and conditioner dispensers. The retreat is a separate building a two second walk from the lodge.
Booking, check in etc was a breeze and communication flowed easily.
The lodge is a 7 minute drive from Hunter Valley Gardens and along the way stop at the Hand made markets on Broke road (if open), the cookie lady sells a variety of home made goodness. Enjoyed two Sunsets sipping champagne on the deck, the variety of color as the sun set was beautiful, occasional the vibrating roar of the Lions could be heard, especially early in the morning. The Hunter valley zoo is located on the edge of the property and you do drive past it on the road leading up to the property.
Because it was unseasonably warm this April, we had a ton of mossies it would have been great to have some citronella candles.
Highly recommended for a memorable getaway, we’ll be back!
