Wow, is just one word that you can think of when you get off the van, just wow.
Beautiful, well maintained, excellent staff, clean and just a good feeling in the middle of the jungle listening to nature all around.
Great resort-style hotel to chill out in and use as a base for sightseeing. The price is hard to beat for what you get. It’s located close to the Palenque Maya site which puts it in the middle of the jungle. It makes the Maya ruins a breeze to reach but limits alternative dining options or going for a quick walk in town. The setting is awesome though if you like being in nature. The hotel restaurant has tasty food even if it wasn’t the best I had during my four weeks in Mexico. Friendly staff as well.
Very beautiful hotel set in lush jungle super convenient to the National Park. Ample pool area Room was almost perfect. Nice comfortable bed. Great shower. Soft towels. Air/Heat. Strong wifi. TV worked. Clean! Excellent massage at spa…but took some effort to get appts. We went around in circles but eventually succeeded and someone was able to set a date/hour for services. Complimentary transport to Tren Maya was greatly appreciated. However…recommend avoiding the restaurant. First meal was ok…just thought it odd I couldn’t leave a tip on my credit card. Tips must be in cash. Second and third meals…foods to be hot were cold. Crunchy was soggy. Lacked seasoning. We gave up and found excellent places to eat in town. Cab ride to/from $5 usd.
These hotels are part of a hotel chain run by the Mexican government in conjunction with the Tren Maya project. They are all extremely convenient to the various archaeological sites (in this case Palenque), and very affordable - particularly for international travelers, but they are also intended to be within the reach of national tourists - while providing the full amenities of a five star resort: gym, pool, balcony, excellent food, gorgeous gardens, etc. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Also, I'll note the hotel itself wasn't at all crowded during the 2025 winter holidays, making it still a bit of a hidden gem.
If you are the kind of person that wants to support the Mexican democratic socialism project (4T), that's also an additional reason to stay here. However, to be honest, these hotels are a great deal regardless of one's politics.
I've stayed in two Hotel Mundo Maya hotels and found both of them similarly excellent (they are very much built and run along a similar template). I would strongly recommend considering them if visiting any of the Mayan ruins across the train route!
For this one in particular, the Palenque archaeological site's entrance is right across the street from the hotel's parking lot (a short shuttle ride or very reasonable walk from the reception).
p.s. I am from Mexico, but living abroad. This review is in English just because I am aiming it towards international tourists, since they are less likely to know about this hotel chain.
I spent one night at this recently-opened hotel and I wish I had spent more. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms spacious, the beds very comfortable, the linens first-rate, and the interior design impeccable. Moreover, the staff are very gracious and have obviously been very well trained as the service was basically flawless. And the location is unbeatable—in the heart of the jungle so you can experience all the sights and sounds and directly across from the entrance to the Palenque Archaeological Zone. I arrived on the Tren Maya and the hotel provided a courtesy shuttle between the station and the hotel. The service is free, but you do need to contact the hotel at least 24 hours in advance to reserve a space. All-in-all, I had a great experience and have to hand it to the visionaries who created the Tren Maya and its network of supporting hotels. Job well done!
Beautiful accomodations! From the entrance to your room! The staff in every part of the hotel were exceptional -- kind, helpful, knowledgeable.
The rooms are large with a great balcony sitting area.
The rainfall shower was great!
The restaurant staff were very helpful when we ordered gluten free items. The regular menu items were delicious -- try the grilled fish and Caeser salad!
The room was very clean, and the staff was courteous and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is truly beautiful—you really feel immersed in the jungle while still enjoying the comfort of a very nice hotel.
My only drawback was the restaurant. While the setting is lovely and the staff is very friendly, the food lacked flavor. I would recommend dining elsewhere. It’s a shame, as the restaurant has great potential given its beautiful atmosphere and excellent service.
