The Scanctuary Resort & Spa

Accommodations were beautiful - but a coffee maker in the room would be perfect. The Resort was lovely with pool, hot tub and evening fire pit. A perfect setting for a 'girls' weekend. The location was a little disappointing and this Resort certainly deserves to be in better location. Not close to restaurants or anything.

The Sanctuary Resort and Spa in Desert Hot Springs

The lobby was in the middle of remodeling, but still clean. The room was clean, with plenty of room to move around. Employees were friendly and helpful.

Think about it before booking...

This hotel was the cheapest one I could find for the Coachella Festival weekend. I can't really give this hotel a good evaluation since we weren't there for the most part of the day and they were remodeling.... but!!! the cleaning of the rooms and hotel maintenance leaves a lot to be desired, all around it looks old and damaged, the room I stayed in was painted in a horrible bright pink color, the bathtub was disgusting (dead spider and hairs), some squeaks when walking, etc etc... not a good place to stay for too long! no wi-fi available due to the remodeling... you had to go to the lobby to get access... no, thank you! the service was good but this hotel needs a lot of improvement to do....

RUN DOWN CRACK MOTEL..MAY AS WELL CHARGE BY THE HOUR..STAY AWAY!

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS "RESORT" <-(JOKE)TO ANYONE, ITS A FILTHY RUN DOWN FORECLOSED PROPERTY,THE PICTURES ON THE SITE MUST BE 10 YEARS OLD.UPON CHECKING IN I WAS TOLD BY THE FRONT DESK THAT I WAS A FEW YEARS TOO LATE THAT IT USED TO BE A NICE PLACE..HA..AND THIS PLACE IS NOT UNDER CONSTRUCTION..THATS AN EXCUSE FOR THEM NOT MAINTAINING IT.NOTHING WORKS PROPERLY.THE POOL WAS FILTHY SPA WAS DISGUSTING.I WAS SWITCHED TO 3 DIFFERENT ROOMS DURING A 4 DAY STAY DUE TO EVERYTHING FROM NO ELECTRICITY,LEAKING CEILING..TOILETS..ETC..MAIDS DID NOT CLEAN ROOM ONCE OR CHANGE SHEETS.AND ITS IN A FAIRLY BAD NEIGHBORHOOD...TAKE MY ADVICE SPEND THE EXTRA 30-50 BUCKS A NIGHT AND STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE,IM SURE THAT PLACE WILL BE CONDEMNED OR DEMOLISHED SOON ENOUGH.

Dirty, Awful, Disgusting!

I thought I was having a bad dream... If your a movie producer and need to find a horrible dirty awful space, you will love it. Please, take my word as gold...stay away from this place.

On a dime, not so bad. Got some cash, go elsewhere.

Just a low-rent place. Building was under construction but some things shouldn't need repair. Little things like blinds, screens on windows, leaky faucets. Reminded me of places I've stayed around the world, in 3rd world countries. That being said, the beds were clean, the shower worked, and they let me stay a couple hours after check-out without extra $$. Wouldn't wanna stay there again, but if you're on a tight budget, it works.

WORLD'S MOST AWFUL HOTEL

The rating when i booked this on Expedia was 2 1/2 stars but this hotel does not merit ANY STARS. It's a ramshack. My room was full of those large flying mosquitoes; it was filthy and disgusting. There was standing water in the bathroom sink. The only employee on site was the front desk person who was drunk. I feared for my personal safety. I left after my first night even though I had paid for 4 nights. It's a creepy place, unfit for habitation.

Could not get out fast enough

A disaster, the hotel was under construction. Elevator not working - my room 2nd floor. No heat, no hot water. A mess everywhere. I had to spend one night before I moved to another facility because of the timing. Got out as soon as I could.

Grausam!!!

Was soll ich dazu sagen... Freundlichkeit ist was anderes. Er will es nun weiterleiten.Jetzt wo wir das meiste selber sauber gemacht haben:) Das Hotel ist definitv nicht zu Empfehlen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Learn from your experiences

The hotel has lots of potential. The room itself was nice. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom wasnt as clean as I would expect a hotel bathroom to be. The shower didnt have any hot water. Could only take luke warm shower. Pool wasnt heated and the hot tub needed to be cleaned

Stay away from Desert Hot Springs

Don't let the words "sanctuary", "resort", or "spa" fool you. This place was a dive. I was under the impression that the place was cheep because it was "under renovation." That's half true, it was under renovation, but the place was a dive nonetheless. I discovered after-words that Desert Hot Springs has the largest concentration of parolees and ex-cons than anywhere else in California. There's also a a high amount of gang activity. I honestly felt scared staying at this hotel! If you do check in, make sure you check in early -- there will most definitely be something wrong with your room and you're more likely to have it rectified if you're the first to check in. Every time I passed through the lobby, I heard someone complaining about their room. Originally I was given a room key to a supply closet! I'm not kidding! Although the area was dangerous, and the hotel a bit of a slum, there were some positives. The clerk at the front desk, although ill-informed, was still accommodating. The rooms obviously hadn't been remodeled in maybe 4 decades, but as my wife said, at least there weren't any cockroaches. The pool was functional, but slightly dirty, so I wouldn't recommend going in. All in all the hotel wasn't terrible, the worst part was simply the bad neighborhood.

Not even if your desperate...

The bright side was that with Expedia's assistance I was able to get a full refund. Maybe upon their 2 year rennovation project things may be different but not until photos (interior/ exterior) are posted would I have give this place a second thought.

Wasnt too sure... pleasantly surprised

My husband and I get out to Desert Hot Springs about once a month. We have tried the other Hotels or "Resorts" in the area. I have seen the bad reviews for this hotel, Sanctuary. I took a chance, as we have driven by, and noticed that they were doing remodeling. I walked into the lobby, and I was suprised. The floors are beautiful dark wood, it us minimal as far as furnishings but what is in place is VERY nice, and Clean. They are not opening the restaurant, nor the tavern, i belive the hotel is between owners so the current owner is not going that far. I did not get like a map of the property, just a verbal of what our room number was and directions. I actually had to go back in and ask for the room number again, as i was so pleased to tell my hubby that the lobby was nice, and the man behind the counter was super nice, and spoke clear engligh. GREAT! So we parked, walked through, most of the rooms have french doors that open to the pool, which is gated. it was almost dark, but well lit. Our room was tucked away and did not have the French doors. I kind of felt bummed. The room was pained bright yellow, but still not annoyingly bright. the counter was granit and the bed large and soft. the TV was in a cabinet and nice condition. it is not a flat screen but whatever, im not there to watch tv right? There was a balcony with a table and chairs, looking at the back parking lot. the air conditioner is in the wall, and newly installed, but super nice with a remote control for us lazy hot or cold people. :o). I was curious about the other rooms, with the french doors, so my hubby went and inquired about them, the man at the desk gave him 3 keys to see if maybe we wanted to switch. VERY NICE of him. We looked, each room is painted a different color, all nice new furnishings, pretty lamps and nice chairs, plenty of pillows, etc. the interesting thing about these "French Door" rooms, is you think you are opening to a balcony, but its a locked door, that has a room with a private spa. its locked, we were told as the current owner is not maintaining them, so they are drained. If the hotel is for sell, this is a pretty neat feature, if a romantic couple wanted to get away, and have a spa night. kind of cool. so we just stayed with our room, i liked the garden tub in ours. each room had something different, shower, or tub, or both, etc. The pool is quite large and there is a jacuzzi and a wading pool. the lounge chairs are new and quite plush. there is a refrigerator in each room, and a review was correct, there is not shampoo or conditioner in each room. honestly, since we did see 4 rooms, counting ours, one room had wine glasses, one had coffee cups, one had plastic cups, our room did not have any of these, but it did have a refigerator. I had planned ahead and brought my own items, which I think most people do anyways. Over all, it was super clean, comfortable and at a great price. I saved over $40 staying there, and had a super time. I would recommend this hotel, just dont go into it thinking you are staying at the Ritz. maybe a Cheezit. :o) Have a super day, Charli n Eric

worst breakfast we ever had

Let them wait with receiving guests till renovation is done. Breakfast lousy, one(!) muffin and old coffee (no tea, juice etc.etc.)No bubbles in bubble bath, wonder what Spa stands for? Crazy fee for 3rd person in room.

Not impressed, no service, bar, restaurant.

The hotel was isolated, the bank took over. The pool man was repairing every day and we had to wait for him to finish after 10am. My friend got stung by a bee, we needed ice, they said the machine is broken. The pool man brought his 3/4 iced Gatorate bottle to put on my friend wound. The aircondition was not working. The Continental breakfast was only muffins and coffee, no creamer, milk, orange juice ect. I would not recommend this hotel to no one.

Under total remodeling, pool dirty, sauna closed, very overpriced for the look of it.Room was not even vacumed and had to switch it because of a overflooded bathtub and lock of workers to come solve the problem.

freat room , but no good service

on the first day we have no shampoo and when we ask the answer was "we are not received yet from supplier " ( who cares-i pay for the room ). the shower doesn't working and they fix on the next day . even for this money i am not recommended this hotel. i forget big pool was cold , so you can't swim. you can use only jacuzzi. maybe because we was only one family in the hotel, but anyway i pay the money for relax not to discus about all the problems.

Great Place for the Price

Sanctuary Hotel & Spa, formerly La Toscana, is a quiet comfortable hotel down the street from Desert Hot Springs Spa. It has one large mineral pool and two smaller mineral pools that you can lounge in. The rooms are comfortable and clean but, nothing matches because they are remodeling the hotel; thus, the room price per night is greatly discounted. If you want a nice quiet place to stay a night while you are awaiting Spa treatments at another facility this place is perfect.

Don't bother

Pictures did not tell the whole story, hotel being remodeled, not ready for guests. No ice, breakfast was bad, half eaten rolls and cereal bars.
